Been Away from the game for a long time.. [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-12-07, 05:24 PM Hello to everyone who reads this. I have been away from D&D for awhile. If i recall it was when Advanced D&D first came out was when I started and only played for a few years before I got out of it. I have just now got back into it and am running into some problems. I have looked at the "D&D for Dummies Books, "The Players Hand Book", and my old books, and I am stuck on the game. A friend has a group together, but he says they are to crowed to let me set in to get back into the feel of things. I can't figure out what to do. I am stuck on creating PC's and don't know were to turn. Please e-mail me any tips, or anything at : travis_l_simpson@yahoo.com

05-12-07, 10:08 PM Ah, the dreaded character creation... My only advice is too carefully read the Player's Handbook and later, the DMG. You could also reverse engineer the example NPCs in the DMG.

Fortunatly, the basics are quite simple (BAB+str+weapon bonus=bonus to hit) but you can leave the weird things like grapple and create melle characters, then move on to spellcasters.

05-13-07, 02:42 AM Seems odd your freind wouldn't let you watch a session or two... how crowded could it be? You could find yourself a corner and insert yourself there.

Is there another reason he wouldn't want you to watch the game?
