Hello,
I have a wizard with an 18 Int. Does the +4 ability modifier mean that they can cast 4 more spells per day? Or does it mean they know 4 more spells?
Also, how would this apply to a sorcerer?

Thanks,
Jov

Page 8 of the PHB that displays the bonus spells granted by ability modifiers.

That is not how ability modifiers work. Look in the abilities section of the PHB for the chart that shows how many bonus spells, and of which levels, the PC would get.

Sorcs do not get bonus spells known for high ability scores. Some feats will increase the number known, but that's about it.

Wizards get more spells by putting them in their spellbooks, which just takes time, money, and access to the spell, typically through a scroll.

The ability modifer, though, does have an effect on how many spells the wizard starts with in his spellbook. Look on page 57 of the 3.5 PHB for details.

The Intelligence score will give you bonus spells depending on Page 8 in PHB.

In addition, this +4 modifier will help you on abilities, and save DCs (Same with Sorcerers except with Charisma). It determines how many spells the wizard starts with (Not same with Sorcerers, whose spells known is static).

Yes, sorcerer spells known are a fixed number, but the bonus spells from the high casting stat get added to the number of spells the sorcerer can cast each day.

Thanks for the info. I must have been tired or something, I completely missed the table on pg 8.
Also, thanks for the info about the sorcerer. I couldn't find anything about the number of spells being fixed, but that just might be another oversight on my part.

Thanks again guys,
Jov

From d20SRD.org, excerpted from the Sorcerer entry, bolding mine:

A sorcerer’s selection of spells is extremely limited. A sorcerer begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of your choice. At each new sorcerer level, he gains one or more new spells, as indicated on Table: Sorcerer Spells Known. (Unlike spells per day, the number of spells a sorcerer knows is not affected by his Charisma score; the numbers on Table: Sorcerer Spells Known are fixed.)
