| Ungart Hammerfell12-04-07, 02:43 PM | I play in a group of three people. Me, the DM, and another player. The other player has decided for the next game she wants to play a druid. I'm not sure what I want to play yet so I thought I'd come here and ask. What would be a good class to accompany the druid? We're only useing core classes, and I'm not sure which one best balances with the druid. |
| Adrian_Crane12-04-07, 03:24 PM | Honestly, anything. A Druid can tank, heal, or nuke if played well (and it's the arguably the most powerful of the core classes, the other two contenders being Cleric and Wizard). If you go Cleric, both of you will be pretty tough, you can heal/rez each other, and cover each other's blind spots. It'd be a powerful combo. |

Yes, some people will tell you that, where druid is the most powerful class, bard is the least, but I'm not sure that's true in a two-person party (I'm not really convinced it's true in any party). The bard can do a lot of things the druid can't. He can confuse enemies with illusions and enchantments. He can charm NPCs with his wit and winning smile, gaining influence or information in role-playing situations. He can figure things out very quickly with Bardic Knowledge. He can enhance the druid with his music. He can be subtle and sneaky, scouting out the area before bringing the druid in. I think it would be very fun to play a bard and druid party. |

| wizarddog12-05-07, 03:33 AM | Bard, wizard, and cleric are good choices but if you plan on coming on any traps their is only one core class that will help with that less a cleric has find traps spell. ;) I would recomend a Bard or rogue with max ranks in use magic device. |
| kuonji12-05-07, 07:07 AM | Another druid. Think of the wildshaping fun you can have. Also, changing into birds makes for some easy travel. |
| FrostWolf12-05-07, 12:17 PM | Another druid. Think of the wildshaping fun you can have. Also, changing into birds makes for some easy travel. Agreed. |
| Magus88812-05-07, 08:46 PM | I'm going to second the choice of a rogue. Druids can nuke and heal fairly well, and are not terribly squishy close up either. What Druids lack is any way of dealing with traps other than walking a summoned creature through them and hoping the trap doesn't reset. I recommend some kind of a trap monkey, which is the Druid's only real weakness |
| Ayra12-06-07, 04:55 AM | I really like the afforementioned idea of two druids who can easily travel with each other by using their wildshape and more, so it would definitely be nice to try that out. Druids are versatile enough to focus on certain aspects of their strength. You can make them really good tanks, but you can also focus on their spellcasting. When looking at functionality within a party, I'd go for a rogue. Only a rogue (or a Beguiler) can detect magical traps, which is something that you will probably encounter in many dungeons. Of course, you can always ask your DM if you can hire a rogue. In forms of pure strength I'd go for a cleric. I wouldn't recommend a wizard, because at earlier levels his low HP and armor class will get him killed fairly easily. In a party of only 2, the chances he'll get hit are a lot higher. A cleric and a druid both can take a punch, but a wizard can't. |
| FrostHammer12-06-07, 10:10 AM | How about an Awakened Fleshraker with Druid levels? :D |
| Belkar12-06-07, 10:36 AM | Druid. Druid. Druid. Will you have a trap monkey? No. Will this seriously hamper your gameplay? Probably not. If your group has consisted of parties with 2 members for some time - I'm going to assume the rather credible possiblity that you've gone without a trap-monkey before, and can do so again. ;) If you feel you need one - consider scout or beguiler. Both get trapsense and disable/open lock. A scout could easily fit in with the "druid" theme (much the same way a ranger could) - and a beguiler has spell options that are fairly dichotomous with any of the druid spells. But honestly, play another druid. A duo of druids is made of nothing but pure win. You could summon troves of animals to tear encounters apart, wild shape to tank it together or travel together, heal/buff each other... Yeah. Druid Duo FTW. |
