I'm playing a druid for the first time and I'm wondering what the best race to make a druid is. I need a race with no LA and other than that it's pretty much anything goes. Thanks.

Dwarf is good, gnome is good. Both give a con boost which with the new errata gives hps. Other physical stats won't matter for that long, although if you need dex or str for a feat halfling or half-orc are ok.

Basically it doesn't matter much, since very few +0 LA races give a wisdom bonus and physoical ability scores do not matter after 5th or 6th (Natural Spell).

PLay a shifter variant from the PHB 2.

Choose Half-Orc

Get a Strength of 18 (roll good)

Have a 24 Strength when you shift.

+7 to hit for 1d6+7 damage = own.

Yeah, unfortunetly... With the erata... Con is important to druids.... So I will second dwarf (In my games old school druid stands erata free!).

Races of wild have a good race. Though i cant remember what its called. Something like kiloreen or something like that.

Forest gnomes seemed like a really fun one to play. :D

Human.

As pointed out, only your Con really matters in the physical, and the +1 skill point means you can have a lower Int.

I love feats. :D

I second human. Extra feat, Extra skill points.

There are only a few races that make better druids than the others. I have recently built a druid for campaign I play in. And my ranking of druid races came down to this:
1.Dwarf: +2 con and +2 saves vs. spells make this race one of the best for druids. -2 Cha only hurts your Wild Empathy.
2. Human. One extra feat is great for a druid(who doesn't get that many feats anyway) and one extra skill point means you can have your int 2 points lower and still get all the skills you want, which is great for point-buy games.
3. Halfling. -2 Str and +2 Dex are pretty irrelevant since you don't get to keep your physical stats in animal form. What makes the halflings worth considering is +1 to all saves. You can never have too high saving throws.
4. Gnomes. +2 Con means 1 extra hp/lvl, while -2 str gets lost in wild shape.

I ended up choosing halflings for flavor reasons.

You could go for the Gold Dwarf (the only subrace with stats in the DMG) which nets you -2 Dex instead of Cha.

True. Didn't know Gold Dwarves were in the DMG. Always thought they were from the FRCS.

It talks about subraces in the DMG and it gives the Gold Dwarf as an example, which I suppose you could use to argue for making it a standard race.
