| Niveus Lynx05-13-05, 01:20 PM | Whether for stats, skills, attacks, spells...your best, and luckiest, rolls ever. 1. Rolling stats for a new character. 18, 18, 18, 10, 10, 10. 2. Rolled a 20 on an attack against a fly with an insane AC. 3. Rolled a 20 on a Bluff check to convince someone there was a spoon in their ear. 4. Rolled a 20 on an Intimidation check, and made a Balor crap his pants. |
| Norhg05-13-05, 01:25 PM | 5. 20 20 17 on attack when trying to do as much damage as possible with a carrot. But what has this got to do with What's a Player to Do? |
| Draco Strang05-13-05, 01:32 PM | We could probably just assume that 18s and 20's are the best rolls ever, and leave it at that. |
| Niveus Lynx05-13-05, 03:35 PM | But what has this got to do with What's a Player to Do? What do the Best Lines Ever have to do with What's a Player to Do? |
| Norhg05-13-05, 03:41 PM | What do the Best Lines Ever have to do with What's a Player to Do? Good question, great question. (Even if I can't admit to being the first to say "What does x have to do with y?") Edit: Hah, I'm flaming you! But only "accidently". |
| Ut-Napishtim05-13-05, 06:04 PM | 4. Rolled a 20 on an Intimidation check, and made a Balor crap his pants. Actually a natural 20 or a natural 1 are only automatic successes or failures on attacks rolls. Also, Intimidation will only move an NPC temporarily to 'friendly' status or shake them momentarily in combat. Even with a natural 20, even you really pumped out your Intimidate skill, the Balor would get an opposed roll (d20+Wisdom Mod+Hit Dice/Class Levels) to avoid being affected by it. Even if he failed, unless you're playing an epic level character (as so many are wont to do these days for some reason) at best you gave him the impression that you are not the man with whom to :censored:, and he would act accordingly. To boot, I don't even think they wear pants. In another vein, I also got three 18's making a character one time, but the DM was doing 4d6 re-roll one's six times so I don't really count it as lucky. It was a nice character while it lasted though, but personally I enjoy more the challenge of creating a functional character out of mediocre stats. Also, I once killed a Bulette as a 1st level fighter in 2E. Probably the most awesome moment in my nearly two decades of D&D fun. I set my polearm vs. charge when the Bulette did his charging leap thing, got a 20, and rolled max on damage. Back then it was quadrupled instead of tripled for consecutive multipliers so I took it out in one shot. My character looked more shocked than the rest of the party. |
| Niveus Lynx05-13-05, 07:48 PM | Actually a natural 20 or a natural 1 are only automatic successes or failures on attacks rolls. House rule that every 20 is a success, and every 1 is a failure. |
| Ibbins05-13-05, 09:17 PM | House rule that every 20 is a success, and every 1 is a failure. Well, then that makes such crazy successes/failures really not that spectacular. This thread is a waste of time. |
| nekrolog05-13-05, 09:22 PM | My best roll... probably that 21 I rolled last week. I hate being accused of cheating, especially when I'm cheating. |
| ehrin05-14-05, 02:15 AM | I rolled a 6 once, and killed a god. we have a house rule that a 6, when rolled by an elf, on a tuesday, kills gods. |
| The nameles one05-14-05, 02:27 AM | We had a pretty funny roll in our last game. The PC's "accidentally" killed a few guards and hided the bodies. Later when they advanced in a more diplomatic manner, they were accused of murdering the guards. At that point the best talker in the group, (Cha 12, no ranks in diplomatic skill's) decided to bluff their way out of the cituation. He rolled 1, totaling 2. At that point I rolled the sense motive check for the person who was accusing them. (Wis 10, no ranks.) I rolled his roll behind my screen and got a 1. At that point the players were alrady throwing for iniative. When I lifted the screen to show the roll the whole table started to laugh and we had to keep a 5 minute break. :D |
| green_yawgmoth05-14-05, 03:00 AM | I rolled an 8, 7, 6 on a prismatic spray casting against a couple solars. My DM's dice decided to be cruel and gave him the worst rolls of the night, making them both go insane and sending them to gehenna. XD Edit: Ibbins, who peed in your oatmeal? If you don't like the thread, don't post. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| monkmania05-14-05, 03:11 AM | our group managed to anger a nearby herd of goats... the first one that charged got 20, 20, 20'd by our rogue. the other goats just backed away slowly. |
| Yruc05-14-05, 03:36 AM | Rolling up stats for a new character. 10,3,7,8,12,5 - DM looks at me and says uh try again. 12,6,9,10,4,6 - DM looks at me and says uh try again last try. 6,8,14,3,11,5 - DM looks at me and says I suck. Laugh and agree, One more try with his dice and him rolling the stats. 18,17,15,12,14,16 - DM looks at me and rolls his eyes and says I really suck. but get the numbers. |
| was_fired05-14-05, 04:45 AM | Against a fallen god my groups bard cast hold person while blinking broke through SR and the god failed his save. The next round he failed his save as well and was coup de graced where he once again failed his save. The bard had something like a 35% chance of breaking SR and the god only had a 10% chance of failing his save. So in the end he defeated SR once, the saves twice, the blinking miss chance twice, and got through the chance of the god rolling a 20 on his saving throw. Giving us a happy probibility of: 0.2128%. It wasn't until later that I remember that he wasn't subject to compulsions... oops. |
| kuhTHOOloo05-14-05, 09:51 AM | Twas my ranger's finest hour. He was jumping from treetop to treetop silently (20's on every check made) sneaking up on an ogre mage. Finally, when above him, I grabbed my bastard sword with both hands, and jumped. I rolled a 1. Sword ends up stuck in the ground, and my ranger ends up being left lying sprawled on the ground about ten feet from the sword, next to an angry ogre mage. Somehow, he made it out of there. |
| Callista05-14-05, 02:22 PM | My Halflling paladin (penalty for size, remember) once managed to Intimidate a large-sized black dragon. I rolled a 20, it rolled a 2... that was funny. And then there's another PC-versus-dragon situation: The half-orc barbarian who managed to grapple, and keep down, yet another large-sized dragon--for six rounds!! Lots of good rolls there, nothing below a 17. That was one frustrated lizard. Oh, yes, and then there's the time I rolled five 18s and a 12 for stats on a 4d6 re-roll 1's. I ditched them and started over... such a thing as D&D being too easy for you. |
| The nameles one05-14-05, 02:30 PM | Oh, and the ranger mentioned in my sig has never rolled higher that 5 when tracking. And his tried to track over 10 times. :raincloud |
| Sakaki2205-14-05, 02:42 PM | Forgotten Realms. I'm a High Elf female Ranger, and am world renouned (at least university renouned) for having the worst dice rolls ever. A party member dies, and instead of resurrecting the current character, they bring back one of the players older characters from earlier on in the campaign. A female Drow Cleric. I decided to play my character as paranoid of the evil being, and took my liberty to feel proud for my kind if I ever had a reason to kill her. (I'm actually against PvP, just playing my character.) So we're fighting along, and I'm getting in my usual attack rolls. 5, 10, 7, 2, more 5s, 4. Then suddenly, something makes the Drow confused and attack party members! Score! Rapid Shot... 20, 18, 18. Paladin: Aim to subdue, not to kill! Ranger: A... *stares at Drow* I ready my action. If she kills anything, I resume introducing her to arrows. Waste of perfectly good high rolls. Cleric: *plucks the arrows out of her armor and hands them over with a grin* Your arrows... ? Ranger: *eyes her while reading (I was actually reading Dragon OOC, no idea what she was.), takes them, and tosses them aside* Thank you. |
| Duvanok05-14-05, 09:58 PM | Edit: Ibbins, who peed in your oatmeal? If you don't like the thread, don't post. It was me. I am sorry, Ibbins. :embarrass Anyway, "best rolls ever", or whatever the hell this thread is called. . . I just can't wait for the "worst rolls ever" thread to start, that'll be a treat! I've never rolled well, ever, sure the occasional natural 20 comes up but its never for anything real special or important. It's never against the BBEG. My cleric crited with a searing light spell last session, that was pretty cool. Man where's that "worst rolls" thread, man do I have some stories to tell there! [Wanders off sobbing]. |
| DemonsOfRazgriz05-14-05, 11:02 PM | My best roll for stats was five 20s and one 19. My best roll in a battle was a 1. I swung my +2 Greatsword and rolled a 1. My DM said and I Qoute "You tripped as you swung your sword as you fell you lost your grip on the sword and it turned into a boomerang and cut off all 3 Orc mages heads" It being turned into a boomerang was determined by a percentille and it was 100. Duvanok: Why wait!! My worst rolls for stats were all 1s. |
| Dartanel05-14-05, 11:05 PM | Oh, and the ranger mentioned in my sig has never rolled higher that 5 when tracking. And his tried to track over 10 times. :raincloud Have you ever considered taking 10? Anyway, to the subject of the post. I'm playing my psywarr/soulknife, Neroc. We're spearheading a massive charge of the imperial army against some rebel forces. Actually we're trying to sneak through the rebel army to climb the holy mountain inside their territory. The battle bogged down with the appearance of the emerald dragon (psi only world, and only one of each type of dragon ever) Our group managed to get at the pass, but the rest of the front line had fled. The dragon had a half-dragon who was manipulating it. The half dragon was getting ready to direct the dragon to strafe our party, which would have ruined our day. So I decided to act as a distraction. Pulling out a psionic trident, I charged the Half-Dragon and manged to crit it. The sheer amount of damage I did to it forced it to flee the field and saved all our necks. |
| TLomon05-14-05, 11:22 PM | Was at a convention playing in a game with my rogue/wizard. During a fight with a dragon, I had to jump back (Boots of Jumping and Springing) into an area we hadn't explored there (nudged there by DM). The DM put a large figure on the table, and there was much laughter. Alone in a chamber, I encountered the "meaner nastier mate". The DM told me to roll for surprise. I said in front of everyone, "no, I am surprised." He looked confused, and I explained... I was not expecting that, and I should have. I am surprised. Laughter continued. The DM shrugged. The dragon immediately breathed on me. Rolled a natural 20. With a Ring of Fire Resistance, and some other rules at the time (2nd edition), I ended up taking 1/4 damage. This still brought me down to 3 hps. It was now my turn to react. Reviewed my memorized spells and possible tactics. 1) Jump back into other area. Mmm. Too risky, as dragon may get a good swipe at me, and I only have 3 hp. 2) Wall of Force. Draw. I hate draws. 3) Polymorph Other. Long shot. I like longshots. I also like goldfish. I passed a note to the DM. The DM rolled a d20 on the table in front of everyone. The dragon rolled a natural 1. The DM muttered... "No F W". Everyone at table has no clue what just happened. It was all in my note. After the first dragon was dead, the party went into the other room and found the bigger, meaner, nastier mate with a giant footprint in its head, lying dead in the middle of the chamber. My character was a bit smokey, but otherwise acted non-chalant. The party responded with "No F W". Never underestimate the one they like to call "stupid elf". |
| harrison_of_pelor05-15-05, 02:27 AM | I was just screwing around and my then level 1 barbarian Killed a Level 5 Fighter with a critical hit on a +3 Greataxe. I did 30 damage. Then i cleaved the actul dud i was supposed to kill, and killed him. |
| green_yawgmoth05-15-05, 03:03 AM | It was me. I am sorry, Ibbins. :embarrass XD *Cough cough* I need to stop drinking pop and reading threads at the same time. Another great bout of rolls: 3.0 game, duel against a barbarian of equal level, winner got the succubus we were fighting over. First round of combat, I crit with an enervation, and roll double 4s. Then with my hasted action, fire off a Fire Orb, which he fails miserably. Dazed for a round, I drop 2 more enervations on him, for 7 more negative levels and a kill. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| The nameles one05-15-05, 03:44 AM | Have you ever considered taking 10? 1) It isnt my char. 2) Nope he hasnt. :P |
| Zee'Tah05-15-05, 01:13 PM | We have 2 awesome house rules that allowed this. -more than 15 damage from a melee weapon (no magic bonuses to the damage, just damage roll + str) can nock an opponent prone unless it succeeds a ref save DC 10. (this is only used in low level games) -You can't roll and then declare that you take a 20 (to prevent metagaming after seeing your roll). The entire party was captured and put to sleep (sleep poison) by half a dozen rogues. The DM rolled before he decided that the rogues had taken 20 on their use rope checks to tie us down (he is very honest) and thus my lvl 3 monk was held by a DC 16 escape artist check (10 +roll of 6). With a escape artist check he easily breaks free, grabs the chair he was tied to, spins around, attacks the lvl 8 brb who was guarding us and rolls a 20, crit, with the chair, doing 21 damage, knocking the guy prone. As the brb gets up he is stunned another nat 20 (he rolled nat 1 for fort save) and is nauseated then stunned (pain touch feat). My monk then grabs the meanest, nastiest, torched device within reach and uses it for a coup de gras (DM said its ok since he is prone and thinks the world is spinning around him). Nasty weapon deas 14 damage (magic weapon). |
| lordsloth05-15-05, 01:57 PM | One of our party ****** off the DM and suddenly we were fighting an aspect of orcus (as a lvl 4 party) because he realised he had basically just killed us, he was gonna allow pleading to our god if he rolled a 100 on a percentile die, which he miraculously did. 2 turns later when i pleaded a 67 (had to be over 50), a mysterious avatar in black armor saved our butt :) |
| Zadara05-15-05, 04:45 PM | We use the exploding dice house rule, IE a natural one is a -10, a natural 20 is a 30. So we're in the Underdark trying to prevent a terrible calamity befalling all the Forgotten Realms (CotSQ). Trekking through the darkness we come upon a stonegiant outpost manned by two and are asked who we are, where we are going, etc. My psion character, being the only one to speak undercommon, starts putting together some story about us being traders seeking out the duergar to open trade relations. The DM asks me to roll for diplomacy, an evil glint in his eyes. I roll - of course - a natural one, making for a -6 on my diplomacy check. Next thing I know the giant sergeant is holding me by the feet, shaking me about and shouting at me about how the duergar are their archenemies. Only the bard casting tongues and smoothing the situation over manages to save me. We proceed to meet the rulers of the hillgiants, anticipating tense negotiations, before being allowed to pass through their territory. Also we have no idea yet, how we're going to cross the lake, whatever spells we use, one of us would need to swim ... By the time we reach the king and the queen of the stonegiants, the tongues spell has run out and it's once again my character, who starts the talking (even while the bard hastily tries to get another spell up). Being very curteous this time and asking for help, I roll for diplomacy - natural twenty, making for a result of 34! The two of them take an instant shine to 'that little human, who's kinda cute', try to ruffle his hair and offer us to ferry us over the lake in their giant boats. Much laughter ensued :D. A similar situation happened earlier in the game, when my character and another were ambushed by a group of bandits. Trying to avoid unnecessary bloodshed he cries out at the top of his lungs, "I am the Archmage of Tol Vera! Unless you back down immediately you will burn in eldritch fire for all eternity!", proceeding to mindblast about half of them to the ground. One intimidate check at about 40 later - yes, a natural twenty - the goons are cowering in abject fear, spilling their guts about their hidden master. Oh yes, due to the psycho rogue the downed ones spilled other guts as well, but that's a different story :D. The fun thing is, that said psion has ranks in neither diplomacy nor intimidate. He just has the strangest streaks of luck. (Of course the initiative rolls kinda balance that out :(.) |
| green_yawgmoth05-15-05, 06:02 PM | Oh man, the reminds me of a diplomacy story of great hilarity. The group that played in my dorm had a DM who was of the "I don't care how many ranks you have in diplomacy, you still have to RP it out and then maybe I'll give you a roll" type. The group is surrounded by ogres, with a frost giant leader. Their soulknife steps up and tries to buy some time for the dwarf to don his armor. He walks up and speaks: Roy (soulknife): You are surrounded by the finest elven archers. If you attack us, you'll be dead before you hit the ground! *Frost giant picks up a tree and shakes it* Roy: Uh... not that tree, he jumped over to the next one! *Frost giant rips up the next tree* Roy: No no no, he moved again! haven't you seen elves fight? Now, I've dealt with hill giants like you before, and- Marc (whispering): Roy! That's a frost giant you idiot! Roy: ....Bees! Bees! *begins running around* The DM said they had in fact bought the time to don his armor. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| General_Ridley05-15-05, 06:45 PM | my best roll ever hasppened last night. I'm 8 level, 4 AntiPaladin/4 Thrall of Demogorgon, and I swing at the enemy with my greatsword. I full power attack for a +12 to damage, on top of the +8 I have from enhanced strength score. Then I roll my 2d6, and its boxcars, so I get 32 damage, and drop the guy, allowing me to cleave, if there were only other enemies around. Later I smite the enemy druid on a charge. My best attack in 1 turn so far has been one full attack in which I put 65 damage on the enemy. Oh, if I could ever roll a Critical Hit, I'd be hitting for massive damage. |
| Vicki Cadae05-16-05, 01:06 AM | My best roll was a natural 20 on a Perform check with a bard who had an insane bonus to Perform. I think the whole town fell in love The most memorable rolls I've seen, however, was when the party wizard rolled three crits in a row... against undead, who are immune to them. That was when I realized that dice have a mind of their own, and a sense of humor. |
| Asi the red05-16-05, 01:21 AM | Hey ya'. Best Stats, rolled 3d6 six times: 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18. No, seriously, I actually rolled these back when I played 2nd ed. Best Attack: 5th level Paladin, getting dove at by a manticore. Readied attack with a spear+ set to receive a charge+ Smite+ Natural 20+ max damage = Dead Manticore. Asi the Red. |
| TigerWolfe05-16-05, 02:50 AM | We have a house rule that two twenties in a row is an insta kill (if it's within reason) so i had a third level rangr who was a walkin through yon wood when a trap door spider springs out and bites him of course i roll like a 2 on my save against poison so i'm being poisoned losing like 2 life a turn. Which sucks when you have like 12 life my ranger was kinda low on hp. So i attack the spider and double crit it woot it dies. my dm is nice and says if i roll higher than like a 10 on a d20 on any of my turns i can fight off the poison i rolled no higher than a three for 4 turns in a row. |
| The Wasp05-16-05, 04:13 AM | Back in the day, my DM had exploding 20s. If you rolled a 20 on your roll to confirm, you could continue rolling to add additional multipliers to the weapon. So we're in this fortress, and we just took outthe dwarven barbarian and the evil sorceror's other henchmen. Unfortunately we're running out of HP and are only third level. My paladin catches sight of the evil sorceror. he charges, greatsword in hand. 20, 20, 20 on a smite attack. The BBEG's head flies off. That was a good day. |
| The Stray05-16-05, 05:41 AM | The cleric in our party had just gained access to Dismissal, and had a chance to try it out against a bearded devil that I rolled up in a random encounter. The Bearded Devil failed his save. Now, the spell description states that Dismissal has a 20% chance of sending the target to a plane other than its own. So I roll the chance...01. "Congratulations" I told her. "You've just sent the Bearded Devil to Celestia." |
| Byael05-16-05, 06:16 PM | My finest hour was when pirates boarded our ship. So this halfling dude with a bandana draws a pistol and threatens us. My 6th level psychic warrior won initiative, i got a critical on my first attack with my double scythe and dealt a bucketload of damage, then amazingly I scored another critical with my second attack, I dealt another whopping load of damage. I dealt around 40 points anyway and the DM said I cut him in two with a clean swish, it was great. Tears of joy were shed on that day, not nearly as much as the blood shed though :D |
| mcnoo05-16-05, 06:59 PM | Ok, simply put, Bluff check on a charging ogre "Look! A vole!" natural 20, +29 from assorted bonuses, he spends the next half hour ignoring us lot and looking for the rodent in question. |
| Sargon05-16-05, 08:08 PM | House rule that every 20 is a success, and every 1 is a failure. WE treat a 20 as a 30 and a 1 as a -10 on skill checks. But thats just how we play... |
| Niveus Lynx05-16-05, 08:14 PM | WE treat a 20 as a 30 and a 1 as a -10 on skill checks. But thats just how we play... That's a much better idea. DM Voice: Hence forth, let it be known... |
| LordHell05-16-05, 08:18 PM | I remember ages ago in AD&D one of the players in my group had some sort of death spell cast at him, and he was likely to fail his saving throw. Anyway, he had a cloak or some item that offered 5% Magic Resistance (Robes of the Archmagi I think) and I let him roll his Magic Resistance check since it was his characters life on the line afterall. Before my very eyes he rolled a 05. |
| Molitor05-16-05, 09:55 PM | My Dm actually rolled 5 "20s" in a row. 2 of the rolls were an attack against our party :weep: The next one was for initiative, and the last two were for saves against our party's spell casters. That's astronomically hard to do if you think about it  |
| darkness ninja of light05-16-05, 10:59 PM | That's a much better idea. DM Voice: Hence forth, let it be known... Actually, read this: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=396753 Basically it shows the flaw of saying a 20 is really a +30 and a 1 is a -10. Then again, you're already using an auto fail/auto success rule. Can't get any worse than that heh heh Anyways I've seen a rogue fall from a great height. The dm had a little pity on him (after the rogue player pleaded and pleaded) and let him roll a d100 to see if he landed on his feet and took no damage (it was a level 1-2 campaign so it wasn't a BIG fall, but enough to hurt him badly) the target was 100. Well, guess what the DM rolled! |
| smrtgmp05-17-05, 02:44 AM | That's astronomically hard to do if you think about it :eek:1 in 3,200,000. As far as good rolls go, lets see... My latest character (human paragon/wizard/frostmage) ended up with some of the best scores I've ever rolled. 18 17 17 16 16 16. I actually lowered one of the scores to 12 because a cha of 16 just didnt fit the character I had in mind. One of my best rolling moments occured in 2nd edition. We were going through the Dragon Mountain module and actually ended up making it to Infyranna's lair (after a couple of years IG of guirilla fighting with those damn kobolds. we actually took over one of the tribes, but thats another story). We tried to buy some time with sweet talk, but the dragon wasnt having it. As she pulled her head back to breathe, my gnome thief/illusionist hurled his magical dagger at her head (it had some enchantment that forced a save against death on a natural 20). I rolled a 20. The DM rolled a 1 on her save, and 100% on her magic resistance roll, which was pretty much the only way she would fail (I think she had like 95% magic resistance). In the eberron game I'm running, the halfling paladin did about 120 points of damage on a charging crit with his +1 lance (spirited charge plus full power attack, for 5d6+90something damage). Not bad for a 6th level midget. |
| Molitor05-17-05, 03:38 AM | One of my best rolling moments occured in 2nd edition. I owned Dragon Mountain at one time, my players couldn't handle it. It broke them :) . Did you know the dragon polymorphs one of her kobold underlings into a red dragon before the last encounter and hides out in the next room as a kobold. I always thought that was slick! |
| smrtgmp05-17-05, 08:52 AM | Yeah, I know. My gnome had trueseeing going at the time, so I saw right threw it. Good thing, too, or we likely would have wasted our strongest attacks at the unfortunate little scamp. And I can see how it would break your PCs. We certainly had a hard time of it. Like I said, we were in that damn mountain for nearly 2 years of game time. That type E (death/20) poison was just nasy. Cloudkill was your best friend in that mod. I'm just glad we had a wizard capable of casting it. |
| digoraccoon05-17-05, 08:58 AM | In an encounter with a very old and powerful Green Dragon versus a PC party of 7 who's total effective level trailed this dragon by about 4... I had an unusual moment. The green dragon was down to about one-third her hit points and the party had (I believe) a total hit point count among them of something rediculously low like 42. The green decided on a chancy move that would get her out of the party's attack range, but allow her to still attack back. The trick was that this would give 6 out of the 7 players an AoO move, but no way this would be a problem. They only hit her about 35% of the time. So I announce her move and I think my exact words were "Roll your pathetic little attack dice, Mwa ha ha!" Six natural 20s hit the board. Five confirmed Crits, one confirmed Max Damage. O_O The onslaught brought the green dragon down to EXACTLY zero hit points. I'm still trying to figure out the planetary alignment that made this one happen! :) |
| babysamurai05-17-05, 09:05 AM | My brother actually rolling "00" for exceptional strength in 2nd edition. |

Your on -9 hp cleric - Whoa yeah, im harcore! As hardcore as that was, you have to fail a climb check by 5 to fall. So as impressive as failing a DC 0 climb check is, the result should've been him getting stuck, not falling. |
| Dick Dastardly05-18-05, 02:31 PM | ahh, thanks. ill remember that, like i said my group is new to the game. any help of this kind is much appreciated |
| Journeyman Samwise05-18-05, 03:22 PM | I've got a funny story. The party is all first level, and there's a quasit hiding in the hallway the PCs need to get through. (First time DMing, so I seriously though the quasit was a threat. srsly srsly) Buut, there's a 10-foot spike trap blocking the PC's path, save for a small trap door that would take them... Right up behind the quasit! After about 10 minutes of debating tactics (the ONLY 10 minutes they've ever debated tactics, mind you) the Rogue and Cleric decide to sneak down under the trap door, through the passageway, and sneak attack/distract the quasit, which would give the Barbarian/Paladin time to navigate the spike trap, and flank the quasit. The Rogue rolled Critical. Using a flaming crossbow he wasn't supposed to get his hands on (I underestimated the ranks he had put in Hide). The quasit went down in one SPECTACULAR blow. |
| VampricNecromancer05-18-05, 03:46 PM | Im waiting for Star Wars EpIII (11 hr, 19 min left :w00t: :w00t: ) and I took the day off to pump myself up for it, but now I'm board, so I rolled up some NPCs I just rolled up 3 16s and 3 18s (4d6, drop lowest) Nooooooooo!!! No one saw that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Quirriff06-01-05, 04:20 AM | I rolled an 18,16,16,16,12,8 once. |
| Leap06-01-05, 04:59 AM | A great many moons back my Paladin (Tristan) was part of a group heading up against a Huge Ancient Black Dragon.....stepping into the final part of her lair she sends to greater Bargest up to me. So my paladin draws his sword and warns the bargest that he is no mood to delay so just get out of his way. They laugh, and attack. Swish (20), Swish (20) and two heads roll (it was a vorpal sword). The smile I had on my face very nearly cost me my paladinhood (sin of pride) ;) |
| Ragey06-01-05, 07:32 AM | Recently, my party had gotten on a quest from god. All are level six at the moment, so nothing has been too hard or too easy. My Dragon Disciple and the others are sent to the Fire Plane, since we know whats coming, the DM was nice enough to prepare so we may at least walk around on the land parts without dying. Being a Brass Dragon Dragon Disciple and a person who thought it would be great to use all my money to make Tongues Perm on myself, I spoke Igneous to the leader of the Brass City, who was slowly telling us the information we needed. Previously, our party somehow (mainly the wizard) ****** off a Old Wyrm White Dragon, who was on a never ending quest to kill us all. We get warning the the Dragon has been spotted killing people at the gate and causing a general ruckus to get to us. Now, Previously to that, we have 3 people in our party In and Out of game who only play D&D to battle. Our DM deals with all aspects of the game, sometimes we don't fight, sometimes we fight huge numbers. Well, my DM was getting really angry at these people always asking to fight and lured the White Dragon to us. Hearing word, my character being the only person that would know information in full on Dragons (Being a Brass Dragon Disciple, Brass Dragon Blood line, and being able to summon a Brass dragon young adult at will. Rewards for being a good person.) beg the party to leave and come back when things are clear. No one listens. The Rogue and the Cleric go off sneaking into a corner and vanish, to come up with their own plan, the warmage believes with the queens militia, he could kill it, the Dwarf tries to trade lives for equipment (doesn't work), and the Orc with the Warlock don't know what to do. While people are trying to do their own thing, I decide 'maybe I should scout', so I slip planes to look at the astral, total ruination. I find out of course, the means of travel that were using is far too small for a Wyrm, and it must be shifting bodies. I try to announce this to everyone, their arguing whose plan is best. The first beings to come through are refuges. I manage to save 60 before the Rogue and Cleric's plan sets off, and they nuke 120 Refuges. The Dragon comes in after taking a crap load of damage from a Ward and a time stop scroll + spells, and destroys the Rogue and Cleric instantly. At that time, I scream 'time to go! Who wants to live?!' The only answer I get is from the Chaotic Evil character ...Of course now should I metagame and pick him up or leave his ass to rot since my character hates his... So he is left on the fire plane as I shift to Celestial. My DM looks ******, apparently even though he was ****** at the group, he wanted everyone to die. Then he says. "Alright. The closer to the middle of this percent die, the more on target you are. Don't roll high or low." I rolled a 50. My DM of course responds in kind "... Well ..damn." and I'm currently the only living being in my party. |
