| wtiger the theif05-18-05, 08:19 PM | my opinion of the best Theif( not including stats) would be a Rouge(for the lockpicks and pick pocket) a assasin(for the deadly accuracy and nack of hiding) and a acrobat or ninja( for there good way of climbing and stealth also). i'm just wondering what do you think a good theif should have? (just wondering of others opinions?) |
| Shaken, not Stunned05-18-05, 08:34 PM | You missed charisma. When you can steal from someone legally, then you are an accomplished theif. |
| TheSilentF05-18-05, 08:37 PM | Well, I can see where you are coming from, but unless you want to triple-class (which is a *****) you can do it another way. My thief, who is currently level 14, is very fast, a damn good fighter, and can do all the things thieves are known for (aka locking picking, finding traps, etc..). Just get a really high dex, I think mine is like 28... That will give you the speed. Then take ranks in skill like climb, tumble, balance and that gives you the acrobat part. For the stealth part take the usual thief skills. Since your dex is so high it will add if you have max ranks. I think my move silently skill is like... 41, lol. And as far as the combat (your assasin thingy) goes, just flank your opponent. You always get your sneak attack bonus added, so it works out very well. And if you like to use poisons and ranged attack, then becoming an assasin would never hurt, but you can take feats for that sort of stuff. |
| TheSilentF05-18-05, 08:38 PM | Shaken, not Stunned, I missed your post cause i was writing mine, but i just want to say... Ingenious. |
| stealth_monkey05-18-05, 08:39 PM | You've pretty much hit the nail on the head. Another option would be the scout class if you're after a ranged-weapon build Also, remember, "i" before "e" except after "c" |
| TheSilentF05-18-05, 08:41 PM | Yes, thief is spelled THIEF, not theif. But i never understood that rule, what about words like weird? IS THERE A C IN WEIRD? |
| Lord of the Underdark05-18-05, 09:17 PM | Are you looking for just builds or are you looking into magic items as well? If so, a Hat of Disguise works wonders for a good rogue...then you can escape the town guard in plain sight... But, if your looking for builds I'd say go with a build towards shadowdancer...Nothing beats the "shadow jump" ability and "hide in plain sight". |
| TheSilentF05-18-05, 09:52 PM | My thief has the hat of disguise, its saved my life many a times... However i recently thought of a good weapon combonation, You take the Geurilla spear, which is a +2 shortspears. When the oppenent is disguised a dexterity bonus it adds an additional 2d4 to damage. Theres a ability called (something i forget what) but it adds 2d4 to when an oppenent is denied his dex bonus to ac (aka a sneak attack). So all you do is if your a 14th level thief (aka me) and you get +7 sneak attack, plus the extra 4 from the spear, thats an additional 11d6 damage, +2 because of the bonus. So its a good combo. The numbers may be a little messed, and everything is from the complete adventurer, but it works. |
| NinjaGarret05-18-05, 10:24 PM | Yes, thief is spelled THIEF, not theif. But i never understood that rule, what about words like weird? IS THERE A C IN WEIRD? it's I before E except after C. or when pronounced /eI/ as in "neighbour" and "weigh". Also, please note that weird is, after all, weird. |
| mcnoo05-18-05, 10:37 PM | The best thief is anything so long as you, the player, have the imagination to think up a fantastic heist to pull. Massive bluff modifiers help too. |
| DrMorganes05-19-05, 12:47 AM | Theres a ability called (something i forget what) but it adds 2d4 to when an oppenent is denied his dex bonus to ac (aka a sneak attack). Precision Damage. It adds 2d6 to your Sneak Attacks (but does not grant the Sneak Attack class feature if you don't already have it) for a +1 enhancement equivalent. |
| wtiger the theif05-19-05, 06:23 AM | thanks for your opinions never be in the same room when your thief says "oops" |
| Sargon05-19-05, 01:07 PM | What about giving a thief a wand of dispell magic... So when she walks into a shop and her bruttly commrades is quizing the shop keeper on the properties of a sword he foundshe can ceck out the daggers.. using a wand of dispell magic to get rid of any anti thieft magics places on the items. |
| wtiger the theif05-19-05, 01:55 PM | you have a point there they also need tobe able to go silently to look around trees |
| Vaelan05-19-05, 11:11 PM | Never neglect a normal disguise when using a hat of disguise. If you use a normal, mundane disguise and use your hat of disguise to duplicate the mundane disguise, spells that see through your illusion will become less useful. |
