A concept of RPG's, and character creation in particular, is to build in a "kicker", when you make the character background, either on your own, or in cooperation with the DM.

A kicker is essentially a story seed, something that will matter to the character, and involve a serious choice. For example, two powerfull political factions that the character are both sympathetic to. A throne to which he is the rightfull heir, but it is ruled by a woman he is hopelessly smitten with, a desire to avenge his fathers death, with a wov to never kill a man.

That sort of stuff.

Alright, I'll bite.

This is a character I've been meaning to make next time I play in Faerūn. My DM mentioned that I didn't have any possessed characters and should make one.

He's a self-proclaimed Cleric of Meilikki who is possessed by a spirit of a Cleric of Umberlee or Talos (I haven't decided yet, we'll just call it Umberlee). The spirit convinced him that it's a high advocate of Meilikki and visits the Cleric to offer guidance, when really it's just manipulating him to do Umberlee's will. He gets all his divine power through the spirit, so domains and everything are that of Umberlee, as well as Rebuke Undead.

Then there's the Arcane Devotee of Ilmaeter who was raised as a follower of Sune but converted around his twentieth year. He's a nice guy, but likes pretty things and falls back to his Sune ways every now and then. Likes hair dye. DM can always find a lady friend to manipulate him.

...I like religion based characters. They're fun.
