He may just kick you out of his campaign and say you're not his friend anymore!

Yes, that's right. My DM kicked me out of his game and told me I wasen't his friend anymore after he became aware of the werewolf issues thread that I posted asking for advice on what to do. Apparently some people figured out who he was, even though I didn't mention him by name, and flamed him by PM.

So, yeah. Don't post your DM woes to a board your DM has access to. And please, people, don't flame on others' behaf. It can just make things worse for them.

Good advice, though if my dm ever saw fit to even glance at something other than his warhammer novels to play dnd, id be overjoyed. Thats why im so confident to gripe, no way anyone in my group would ever bother to look at something so advanced as these threads (most don't even own a PHB, or even dice, and we supply Character sheets).

He kicked you out for not liking his methods? Thats just stupid, if any of my players ever posted something cruel, id be overjoyed at the sudden interest in something beyond free food. Be as cruel as you like of my dming, it only serves to make me better.

*Sigh* Self-pitying rant over now.

Sounds harsh, but you are better of without these type of "friends"...

(Unless he comes back in a reasonable time and apologizes for being, lets say, "rushy".)

Yeah, friends who want you to agree with every dicision they make are not really friends. They'd do better with a robot then a human friend.

I hope you can find a new playgroup. But it's good advice not to talk about your friends if they visit these boards.

That sucks. People shouldn't interfere with other people's private affairs. hope you get a new playgroup, try talking and see if you can reconstruct the old one.

I think I remember seeing a post or two from the guy who used to be your DM, in one of your problem threads. If that's what he decided to do, well, that speaks even more. It makes me a little queasy to hear about the anonymous PM avengers, though -- both the anonymity and the 'default to FLAME' reactions.

In all seriousness, not gaming is better than playing in a piece of railroaded garbage.

Your DM's being a little biatch(can't use the actual word), and if he's gonna be so petty about something like this, you don't need him.

Try talking to the other players in that group into being a group yourselves and leave the child behind. Let him play with himself. You might have to take the DM hat for a bit, unless you are really lucky. But if you are all newbies and if they are mature enough, you should be able to muddle along fine.

My first group of players put me through Hell because one of them was fairly experienced and he took newbie DM = time to munch and break everything in sight just because he can. My second go was much better (after I banned said player). Now, I am DM-ing off-the-cuff without planned notes or anything. The only thing I have in front of me during sessions are major NPC character sheets, the 3 core books, a general not to scale map of the continent and dice. I don't bother with a DM's screen either. What I have in my head, however, is entirely another matter ;)

I don't say anything about my playgroup here that I wouldn't tell them to their face.

for example, when I say my group is a gang of bunghammers, then rest assured I have told them, or will tell them in the near future.

(Note to guys in my campaign: You're a bunch of bunghammers. ;) )

You know SD, I'm not familiar with the particular thread of which you speak, your DM, or the flaming players. IIRC didn't you just get kicked out of another game a couple months ago though? I could've sworn you posted about that. I'm not trying to imply anything since I don't know what the situation is here and all - I'm just sayin'.

This sounds like you said something online that you wouldn't have said to his face, if this is so then there is little surprise he reacted poorly.

I don't know about the "you're not my friend anymore" comment, that strikes me as really childish; I've uninvited a friend because of playing style differences & we remained friends, we both realized that there was one gaming facet of friendship that we didn't really share.

To PM a stranger over alleged offenses is boorishly juvenile, but you can't take the blame for such misconduct. I naturally assume you wouldn't incite such a thing so the blame there should wear off.

Ugh! If it is the same DM, I am beginning to wonder if you are just a glutton for punishment, ShadowD. I'd sooner play single player CounterStrike than play with this DM. And that is after his first exploits with the Evil Celestial nonsense.

Jeez, what a jerk. You're better off without this railroading idiot.

And, I've posted about my DM before, but, as he knows VERY well, whatever I say here is just a summed up version of what he's heard from me. I make every problem I have known to him. Annoying? Sure is. But, I wouldn't post anything about the actual players/DM here if I hadn't already said it to them a thousand times.

Bunghammer...that's a new one to me. Glad I'm not in your group, Count.

I actually agree with the Count here, with the exception of the words playgroup (my 5 year old has a playgroup :P ) and bunghammer -- to expound upon my agreement, it's the same as talking anywhere public.

Never assume that anything you have to say to anyone "out loud" in a public forum, whether online or in the middle of Burger King, is a private thought. If you're going to say something about someone anywhere except in the strictest privacy, you ought to make sure that you honestly wouldn't mind telling it to that person to their face.

Now, I can see how the DM might be hurt by the poster not coming to them first, if that's the case (I haven't the time at the moment to review everything, sorry), but if it's not, then the DM's just being a wanker.

In either case, we have this little civilized thing we do these days called talking to each other. It's what grown-ups do (note, grown-ups does not always indicate age, my 5 year old son is more grown-up than many adults I know).

Personally, I'd be pretty damn well ticked off if someone had a beef with me or my actions and not only didn't bring it to me first, but instead went to Times Square and presented it to a thousand people.

I did come here first, and I never said anything about him that I woulden't - and didn't - say to him. He was angry at me because I, quote, "let others rip his reputation to shreds without giving him a chance to defend himself." I didn't tell him about the threads, because I was asking other people for advice, not trying to rip on my DM.

Also, Ut-Napishtim, I think you're thinking about the time I posted because I had a pollitical disagreement with my group, and I thought it got me kicked out. It was over the Bush-Kerry election. And no, I didn't get kicked out, I just thought I had, because heated words were exchanged.

And apparently, this DM was mad at me for a lot of things that I had done, in the process of telling him about the threads. I was threatening to quit his game because he was refusing to let another friend of mine take some WotC feats for druids, when he let another friend of his take all kinds of crazy stuff, and we were all playing crazy stuff. So I felt my other friend was being discriminated against, which is why I threatened him.

He cooled off after I'd said that I'd have threatened someone else for him, too. I think everything's good.

People, please, it's not nessessary to rip someone to shreds collectively.

Threatening to leave or being threatened so does not strike me as a good gaming environment, I would feel constantly on edge & rightly so; you don't tolerate that sort of behaviour in relationships because it breeds distrust & insecurity.

This sounds like something the group should discuss openly to remove it from everyones vocab & breathe a relaxing breeze into the environment. Oh, the source books available should probably be added to the collection of houserules you have.

I've gotten into bits of trouble about internet communication before but it does blow over. And my players know that I post to vent or to put forth questions - and that they shouldn't be reading my posts, even if they do run across them. You did well in trying to cover up names (even if folks saw through it). Since your DM is intent on being this upset, however, it probably is a sign that you should move on. It may not be an easy thing, or always a comfortable process, but there are other groups out there to be found.

In the future, you are welcome to post on my message boards about a group or DM. My boards are small, your group won't know about 'em, and I allow cussing in righteous anger. :D

I think there's certain etiquette that should be used.

As was mentioned, never say something here that you wouldn't say to the DM.

Also, you never undercut your DM. You can complain about him (or more specifically, his rulings) but never do so in a manner that would identify him and make him a target of scorn.

The idea should be to get a gauge as to whether you are in the right or wrong, and what you should do. The idea is it should be constructive. Just saying bad things about someone on the internet is as inappropriate as it is in real life.

He never did ID his DM. His DM made the mistake of opening his mouth to try and defend his hedious actions in the Alignment thread. Since ShadowD is talking about the same group of characters down to the Lilend in the Werewolf thread, some people must have put two and two together and got four. And decided to rip that lousy DM a new one, especially after his abysmal CHA 1 performance in the Alignment thread.

While not everyone here post in a politics board, DS, that don't mean they are stupid...

20, that was completely uncalled for.

There's no reason to rip into someone, especially in PMs. I told my DM to report those PMs to WotC, and I hope he did.

I mean, come on guys. You're not the ones he pulled the abortion of a railroad and that alignment move on, and you're acting more hostile to him than I am!

Let it go. There's no point in whuppin' up on a dead horse. He knows I'm rightiously ****** at him for the werewolf thing, though less so now for the evil half-celestial thing, since we found out she was under the effects of a mind-effecting compulsion.

My point is, you're attacking him. That's never what I wanted. Even when I posted this thread, I didn't want people to attack him. I was rightiously angry, but I meant it more as a warning for those who's DMs also read the WotC forums.

You should never attack someone. It's a game, guys. The point is to have fun, with your friends. If you can't do that, then just kick 'em to the curb and leave 'em eating your dust. I'd rather try and get along with my friends, even if it's nearly an impossible task at times.

As long as you guys have gotten things taken care of, that's what matters. It will take time for the wounds (and I'm not talking the PM feeding frenzy) to heal, though.

I didn't send him a PM. That would require that I actually know who it is (which I didn't until Kalli pointed out the Alignment thread). If you wish for me to do so, I'll go do it right now.
