| Bozwevial08-10-07, 12:39 PM | Okay, I think he's gone waaay too far this time. My friend has finally decided to hunt down the tarrasque. With two people. He's playing a 18th level wizard, and I'm a 17th level psion. We've gotten wind of the tarrasque and expect to fight it at 20th level, but my overconfident friend has taken advantage of circumstances to try and get rid of it with me in tow. His plan follows: He starts by boosting my power save DCs by as much as possible: a psionatrix, headband of intellect, ability tomes, etc, until the tarrasque has a very good chance of failing saves against my powers. Next, he carves out, using magic, a canyon, with a very steep incline going down into it. It's just wide enough for the tarrasque to fit through. He gets the tarrasque there, luring it with an illusion for it to chase. At the bottom, the two of us are waiting. He sends the illusion down to the bottom, then I provoke the tarrasque to come down somehow while he readies an action to cast a spell. Slightly before the tarrasque entered, I am to manifest a delayed ectoplasmic sheen, contingent on a creature entering the space it affects. When the tarrasque runs down the slope, this triggers my friend's action to cast a gate spell, portal version, linked to the Plane of Water. If he gets everything perfect, the tarrasque should charge down the slope, trigger the psionic grease and slide into the gate. He then closes the gate. He argues that not only should the tarrasque take a save penalty for being on the slope (and assuredly slipping down it into the gate), there's no way a creature with 3 Int can ever know the grease is there, or that charging down the slope is a bad thing. He claims that doing so would require Spellcraft/Psicraft checks, which it cannot make, being untrained in those skills, and even untrained, it's at a severe penalty. He's even come up with a way to do it without my help, should I decide not to go along with this crazy scheme (a teleportation circle designed to teleport the tarrasque into the air above his waiting gate). I really think this plan is doomed, but I need the +5 wounding rapiers of you folks to help me poke holes in his plan. If no one finds any, I'll just kill him myself. It'd be far less painful and humiliating. Besides, everyone knows the tarrasque is meant to be a dramatic fight, not a comedic, 3-round, slips-on-a-psionic-banana-peel affair. |
| Mindolin08-10-07, 12:51 PM | Actually, I think it might work better if you let him chase the real you down there, as I think he has scent, and teleport out. Otherwise it seems like it would work. |
| Bozwevial08-10-07, 12:58 PM | See, this is why my friend needs to think things through more. That was his original plan, until I pointed out that a) I have a d4 Hit Die. b) I don't wear armor. (I know I could, theoretically, but I prefer not to.) c) If he wants my help, he'd better provide protection. d) Every so often, the tarrasque can move extremely fast. I'm not risking my 17th level psion on one of his harebrained schemes. He can bet I'm gonna slap down the delayed grease, taunt it into coming down with a power, then ready an action to teleport away, even if it means using an amulet of the planes. Does anyone see holes in his plan, so I can convince him to turn his efforts to killing it normally? Also, what happens if the tarrasque is plunged into the Plane of Water? |
| Matthew7708-10-07, 01:05 PM | The general principle "Lure the Tarrasque through a gate into another plane', is a decent idea. Most good ways of dealing with a Tarrasque (that don't use the silly suffocation loophole) involve trapping it somewhere, instead of actually trying to kill it. I think most of your issues are going to arise in implementation. Your friend making some bad assumptions, mostly involving the Int 3. Yes, it has a low int. This means it can't learn to read or perform mathematical calculations. But it also has a Wis of 14. This means it has instincts and survival skills. It won't blindly charge anything it sees, and it knows that running into narrow valleys down a slope is a bad idea. A dog has Int 2.. a dog certianly can tell that greasy surfaces are slippery and avoid them. The Tarrasque is also big and strong enough to dig its claws into the rock and stop its movement once it starts sliding. (that is what the reflex save would represent.) Also, Gate = 20' diameter. Tarrasque = 50' tall. Might be a problem, depending on how your DM adjudicates creatures that only partially enter a gate spell. So, I would say... decent start for a plan, but unless your DM is a total pushover, implementing it won't be as smooth as your friend thinks it will, and make sure you have a backup escape route when it doesn't work. PS. even if it does work, I'd imagine the inhabitants of whatever plane you send it to will be slightly annoyed with you. |

I was thinking the same thing, Matthew.... if the creature is listed at 50' tall, you have to figure that it might be at least half that in width, so trying to "slide" a 20' to 25' foot wide creature right into a portal that's only 20' round....well, a lot of things could go wrong there, especially if the DM assumes the creature might be flailing around, trying to stop its slide down the hillside. And good point about the residents of the other plane... methinks they might come looking for whomever dumped a greased-up, angry Tarrasque into their home.... |

PS. even if it does work, I'd imagine the inhabitants of whatever plane you send it to will be slightly annoyed with you. My friend was counting on the fact that the tarrasque might be leery about entering a greasy looking area. Hence, the delayed psionic grease, which means it doesn't trigger (and doesn't spread ectoplasm all over the rocks for the world to see) until a set duration passes or until someone enters its area. In this case, the tarrasque. He also considered leaving me out except as bait and doing the actual casting of the slippery spell himself-in his case, he planned on casting transmute rock to mud. He even chose the Plane of Water based on the fact that a good aligned plane would likely consider having the tarrasque shoved into it an evil act, and a evil plane wouldn't be too happy with him either. He had mused earlier about drowning it, so the Plane of Water came as a natural choice. "Besides, even if the sharks and aboleths get mad at me, what are they going to do when they get here? Suffocate at me?" The DM has already, due to an earlier fight involving a wu jen using the giant size spell working in tandem with a wizard, ruled that entering a gate spell partially is sufficient to transport you through the gate (this was their escape route, and the Colossal wu jen stuck her arm through and was sucked into the gate). So that particular problem has been circumvented. (We have an interesting DM. The wizard was perched on top of the wu jen's head and flung spells while the wu jen attacked. I stopped this strategy by setting the wu jen's hair on fire.) |
| Lawlicron08-10-07, 02:04 PM | I think with the Plane of Water is a good choice. I don't think anyone there would be upset. Every hundred years (Or whatever) it wakes up for... a little over three minutes. It might kill some passing fish and thats about it. I don't think its move of 20 can swim it very far either. I'd be ok with that if I lived there knowing it could kill hundreds of people if on their plane. I'd just take care to let everyone know that it wakes up and might kill you if your too close. |
| Drag0nUL08-10-07, 04:00 PM | I honestly do not understand the need for such a complicated plan. I mean you could just appear in front of it with a contingent celerity prepared. If you win initiative ready an action to cast gate when it charges. If you lose initiative trigger contingent celerity, teleport away, come back and repeat. As far as I know there is no way to willingly stop a started charge so the tarasque would enter the gate no choice and no save. |
| Bozwevial08-10-07, 04:29 PM | By charge, do you mean the actual act of charging, or just moving up to attack me? Because I'm pretty sure that it might not bother with charging. Besides, this isn't my idea. This is my friend's idea. I had nothing to do with it and am trying to dissuade him from doing it. I'm looking for flaws in the plan. (Even if I find them I may just watch in amusement.) |
| MCage08-10-07, 05:14 PM | Yeah if your DM has it actualy use Charge then you might by fine, if it just uses its rush ability its movement just becomes 150' which isnt as fine. Im wondering why you cant just stalk it till it goes to sleep (id assume underground somewhere) shapechange into a earth elemental, use earth-glide to find him, or anything thats less then a 9th level spell (if your going after the tarrasque you might as well go all out), use move earth or something that will leave a visual hole so you can see him (my old dm used to let me make an air pocket with my hands when i was an earth elemental but by RAW i dont think earth glide will let you do that) and drop a gate on his sleeping arse. But you know Drag0nUL has a good point, contigency might be a good plan. |
| Radijs08-10-07, 06:06 PM | Personally I'd send it to Baator. But not before knocking it out and gift-wrapping it. I'm sure Asmodeus can find some use for bit T in the blood war. |

But you know Drag0nUL has a good point, contigency might be a good plan. Because I'm a psion. A kineticist, to be exact. It's a good idea, but I'm not sure the DM plans to have the thing sleep for a very long time. (I think he plans to have us involved with it somehow for the next 2-3 levels and finally tangle with it at 20.) Also, I'm not sure about summoning a gate in an existing creature's space. Certain other spells and effects have a little disclaimer to the effect that the spell fails if it actually comes into existence in a creature's space. I'm reluctant to tell him about this, because knowing him, I'd get the "easy job" of somehow stuffing the thing's leg into the gate spell while he does the "hard work" of maintaining the gate. The more this goes on, with his plan getting more elaborate (his latest twist is redoing my levels with psychic reformation to get the maximum effect) the more I'm just tempted to make his head implode. Or explode. Or use temporal regression and do both. |
| was_fired08-10-07, 06:25 PM | The big problem I can see with the gate plan (if your DM lets it fit) is water pressure. Since gates are a two way phenomena that means that water will flow out of the elemental plane of water very quickly, possibly fast enough to push big T out of the way of the gate itself or at least give him a chance to stop himself from falling into it. Come to think of it the water might also wipe off the grease as well. |
| Comus08-10-07, 06:43 PM | As long as you can fly, you are in absolutely zero danger. Killing it, though, can be a bit difficult. Gating it to another plane really does sound like the best plan. Any of the lower planes will do, either Energy Plane would be good, and the Beastlands might actually be appropriate, too. Alternatively, just beat the tar out of it and Wish it dead. At your level, it shouldn't be hard. |
| Incendius08-10-07, 06:59 PM | Seriously though; have fly up and just fly out of reach. Have the wizard summon some things to keep it busy. Pelt it with powers. Cast wish. Dead Tarrasque. |

Just smack him a few times and that should clear those ideas out. No you are not safe if you can fly. Rush just switches his speed to 150' that 300' double move so teleports should be saved for escape. Improve grab means that it is likely one of you will get eaten before both are able to fly. NOTE: that is 2 AoO if he goes first. Most summons will not do much but give him some thing to attack beside you and your friend. Most offensive spells will reflect off his skin and some of those will come back to you and your PCs have no way of knowing this without MATA gaming. Regen work no matter what and the new wounding he is immune to. the best way I have seen is getting eatten, make sure you have acid res/imm and DR/blud, and cast offense spell from inside him then wish. Or lower his fort save and boost you caster level check to over come SR and cast Sphere of Ultimate destuction and summon elemental monolith 1st to keep him busy. |

Only if you go first or are spotting him more than 320 feet away. He can always pick up anything with in reach and throw it at you. Only a -4 to his attack and most spellcasters don't have AC 50+. |

Only a -4 to his attack and most spellcasters don't have AC 50+. Solution: Stay more than ten range increments away. Not a huge problem. Alternate Solution: Summon something to keep him busy. Gating in a Solar should be enough. Note: It is extremely unlikely the spellcasters won't see him coming. As a precaution, though, each should have a clone or two ready and waiting in a safe place. I suggest the Astral Plane, as time doesn't pass there and so the clones can't rot. |

| On_the_wings_of_TPK08-10-07, 09:21 PM | I like the grease + gate combo. My suggestion would be to use the negative energy plan instead. |
| DrStalker08-11-07, 04:03 AM | How about just leaving the damn thing alone? |
| Drag0nUL08-11-07, 06:48 AM | Only if you go first or are spotting him more than 320 feet away. He can always pick up anything with in reach and throw it at you. Only a -4 to his attack and most spellcasters don't have AC 50+. As a matter of fact most smart spellcasters do. That's what polymorph/shapechange is for. And most smart spellcasters are invisible. And have displacement or other similar effect. To the OP: If you are intersted in more ways of dealing with the tarrasque: I have dealt with the tarrasque twice, and both times came out victorious. First time I one-shotted it with a shifter melee monster (given that he was placed within charge range of a given target, that guy could do enough damage to kill anything not from Deities and Demigods). Second time I was playing a cleric, so I gated a solar. The solar shoots slayin.g arrows. The tarrasque fails save on an natural 1. so on average in 20 rounds you will have a dead tarrasque. Another idea I had when confronted with the tarrasque the second time was gating a balor. It can cast Dominate Monster at will. So just keep casting until the tarasque fails save |
| Varia08-11-07, 08:32 AM | Well my main adivice is to use the sharp corners on whatever Monster Manual the tarrasque is in for the purpose God intended, specifically staving in the skull of the DM who would put such a mind-bendingly stupid monster in his game in the first place. Then the still-quivering body should be ritually defiled, dismembered, and mailed to brain-dead people around the world to give them hope- "No matter how vegatative your state, you're still smarter than THIS guy". Then the documents of his birth, all records of his life, and all his immediate family should be cleansed in fire, and the site exorcised of its residual stupidity. Then pave it over and build a walmart parking-lot on it. I dont like the tarrasque, perhaps you can tell. If, for some unfathomable and unholy reason, you STILL insist on seeking out the tarrasque then- The "digging the claws into the ground for traction when it starts slipping" thing is the main flaw I can see too, assuming you can manage to supersize your gate so Mr T can fit though it, and assuming the gate doesnt have a deluge of high-pressure water fire-hosing outof it pushing everything away from it? Dogs are smart enough to avoid slippery areas? Um, no, no they arent. Not reliably, certainly. Just watch some old "americas funniest home videos sometime, or funny pet videos. |
| Derren S.08-11-07, 02:12 PM | I like the grease + gate combo. My suggestion would be to use the negative energy plan instead. The plane of water is fine. Regeneration does not prevent drowing so the Tarrasque would indeed be killed when gated there without using a wish. If the DM does rule that the Tarrasque does not fit through the gate you could follow the Tarrasque while flying and invisible till it sleeps. Then use invisibility, spectral hand, a boosted DC, water breathing and Plane Shift to shift yourself and the Tarrasque to the Plane of Water. Because of your invisibility and spectral hand the Tarrasque has no idea where you are and drowns while you can plane shift back safely. |
| Grumman08-11-07, 02:34 PM | The plane of water is fine. Regeneration does not prevent drowing so the Tarrasque would indeed be killed when gated there without using a wish. I don't think so. The rules are pretty straightforward about what can and can't kill the Tarrasque. The tarrasque can be slain only by raising its nonlethal damage total to its full normal hit points +10 (or 868 hit points) and using a wish or miracle spell to keep it dead. |
| Derren S.08-11-07, 02:47 PM | I don't think so. The rules are pretty straightforward about what can and can't kill the Tarrasque. *sigh* Here we go again. That "can only be killed by" part is part of the regeneration entry. If regeneration does not apply so does this clause. Suffocation/drowning ignores regeneration. The Tarrasque has no ability which lets it survive when its HP reach -10. You might not like it but by the rules the Tarrasque can be killed by drowning it (or baleful polymorphing it). |
| Varia08-11-07, 03:57 PM | If nothing else it can certainly be rendered inactive by drowning, even if it is stil technically alive and may recover if pulled out of the water. At any rate its away from you and no longer your problem. And of course once it is inactive from drowning a wish should finish it off. And if your DM is really dorky, spend half an hour with chainsaws on it first to get it to -10 while its inactive then use the wish. |

Ah, Acording to the Rules of the game, It perfectly says that Mr T Can know that greese is there, The question is will he care? The answer of that would be based on his Wisdom Score now, Heck just to spot the Greese is Wisdom Based, 14 Wisdom means Yes Mr T Should by all normol means (Acording to the rules and all) Spot the Greese, inless your DM and friends all agree to change that, Then by normol means im sure that MR T will go, Hmm Greese can I Eat it? hm, To small Not only that but just wide enough for MR T to fit in? Well the sides scraping his Sides, and him Squeezeing in though it means Bonus to not fall down the Pit So Insight, Enchantment, Ability Score, Luck, The best of all 4, Remeber multibol Enchantment things do not stack, so on so forth, So lets say you have 30 intelligenace, thats +10, its a 9th level spell, +9 so 10+10+9=29 So Mr T gets a 9 or higher on his weekest save you can do it! or 60% of the time that plan fails, inless of course something eles is happning Useing an Illusion for it to case? Will Save Plz, Mr T just gos, Hm Shiny Object, Kinda like a commener gos, OMG Its a FireBall!, Why? Becouse the thing comming at me looks like fire, and its in the shape of a Ball, thus I beleve Its FireBall (Thouse it could be Meteroite) Mr T will know SOMETHING is there, But I beleve he wont exactly pin point it Teleport Circle? SR 32, Level 20 = 12 or higher to beat it, hm lets say somehow he gets +28 before level 20, that means he has a chance to beat it, But he said before level 20 right?, Good luck! Hint hint, Water deals nonleathol Damage, Mr T Regeneration its, Hmm. MR T is now in the Plane of Water, Grats you didnt do dick to it but Teleport it to a differnt Plane, It runs around and eats things there, Well You saved your plane of excistance, at the cost of another Plane however ... Hint hint - Mr T Is Slow moveing, Get good Fast move speed, Fly in the sky, And poke him 858 times with something that can deal 1 damage to him without him healing it some way ... Now You can win!, That or MAYBE True Mind Swich it, I Beleve, I Forget how that spell works ... read that spell up Hm, Whats your characters Will save anyways? DC 36 to not just "Run away" Be immune to fear will help No there are multibol Holes in his Plan, There great if ALL the holes are filled, But to normol rules I say he has only 20% chance of doing anything, and 99% chance that if he dose do something, Its to **** off MR T, That or send him to the plane of water for him to rampage |
| Ace_of_time08-11-07, 11:41 PM | He just wouldn't wake up until he could breath again. Nothing short of wish spell keeps him dead. Oh and everything deals nonlethal damage to him. Regen works always. You would have to deal over 40 + hp per round. |
| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-11-07, 11:50 PM | One More Thing! *Slaps eveyone* Mr T has SR, Which could count as Psionic Resistance as well! One More Thing! *Slaps eveyone* Mr T SR or PR Could just "Nuil" The whole "Delayed" thing, Hell Mr T looks at it and thinks "Shiny" Then continues walking without it effecting him what so ever One More Thing *Slaps Eveyone* Mr T SR/PR I Beleve could just ignore Gate as he runs though it, Oh ya, and eats you! One More Thing! *Slaps eveyone* Mr T Regeneration and list of Immunitys, Ah And the fact that you can still move in Water with move speed, Its just moveing up Requires the Swim Check One More Thing! *Slaps eveyone* have your friend make a deal with a Balor demon to kill Mr T, Then watch what Balor dose, then When your friend dies from Balor, Ignore them, And continue on with your life |
| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-11-07, 11:52 PM | He just wouldn't wake up until he could breath again. Nothing short of wish spell keeps him dead. Oh and everything deals nonlethal damage to him. Regen works always. You would have to deal over 40 + hp per round. Thats why Fighter is flying thanks to wizard or pot (Or item) has a nice bow and a Ring of 3 wishes, Deals 40+ Damage a round with Bow, While flying, then when Mr T is down to the negitive HP Fighter uses Ring of 3 wishes to wish that Mr T stays down |
| Prak, the Mad08-11-07, 11:57 PM | Actually, I think it might work better if you let him chase the real you down there, as I think he has scent, and teleport out. Otherwise it seems like it would work. even easier, fly just out of reach, bombard with spells(especially save or dies) then wish it dead, or gate in an efreet and wish it dead. it's really that simple. |
| Ace_of_time08-12-07, 12:01 AM | Thats why Fighter is flying thanks to wizard or pot (Or item) has a nice bow and a Ring of 3 wishes, Deals 40+ Damage a round with Bow, While flying, then when Mr T is down to the negitive HP Fighter uses Ring of 3 wishes to wish that Mr T stays down Assuming normal armor for a fighter that 40-50' move. He could rush out of range before your bow (assuming you have access to epic bow or that deals over 40+ after DR) before losing his massive HP. |
| Infernostrider08-12-07, 08:19 AM | in one of my DMing sessions i send a pack of terrasques at the party >< a pack >< if they read this thread, they'd wish they'd have thought of stuff like this :P |
| Lykor08-12-07, 10:50 AM | Drowning won't kill Big T. If he ever manages to fail a save, he will go to 0 hp. However, he will then regen back to 40 on his next turn. The rules don't state if the increasing saves reset or not (I would rule they don't until you breathe) so he will probably fail again, going to 0, then regen 40 and go 39 - meaning he can swim away. Remember, if 2 events happen simultaneously, you can apply them in the most beneficial order. Furthermore, even if he somehow dies of drowning, he won't stay dead - either regenerating and doing nothing just dormant - the wish clause trumps all. If you want to make him more of a challenge, toss in a low level wizard with invisibility and a bunch of buff spells. Or a Mirror of Opposition. |
| Bozwevial08-12-07, 07:00 PM | Ah, Acording to the Rules of the game, It perfectly says that Mr T Can know that greese is there, The question is will he care? The answer of that would be based on his Wisdom Score now, Heck just to spot the Greese is Wisdom Based, 14 Wisdom means Yes Mr T Should by all normol means (Acording to the rules and all) Spot the Greese, inless your DM and friends all agree to change that, Then by normol means im sure that MR T will go, Hmm Greese can I Eat it? hm, To small The whole point of the delayed grease is to keep it from noticing anything fishy until it's stepping in it. Delayed. It's a metapsionic feat. Look it up. Not only that but just wide enough for MR T to fit in? Well the sides scraping his Sides, and him Squeezeing in though it means Bonus to not fall down the Pit Not necessarily within a few inches of the thing's carapace. We can easily add about 5 feet or so of space on both sides without jeopardizing the plan. So Insight, Enchantment, Ability Score, Luck, The best of all 4, Remeber multibol Enchantment things do not stack, so on so forth, So lets say you have 30 intelligenace, thats +10, its a 9th level spell, +9 so 10+10+9=29 So Mr T gets a 9 or higher on his weekest save you can do it! or 60% of the time that plan fails, inless of course something eles is happning Well, first off, it's a power. A psionic power. Let me see...Last I checked, psionic grease was in fact first level. My friend worked through all the numbers and has a staggering array of things to boost the DC, far too many for me to remember along with the plan, but the gist is that the power's DC is high enough for the tarrasque to only have a 5% chance of saving. Useing an Illusion for it to case? Will Save Plz, This is somewhat iffy. Illusions get Will saves only if interacted with, yes? If this doesn't seem to be the best plan, we can try a summon monster spell. Since the creature summoned won't attack the tarrasque, we won't have to deal with spell resistance. Mr T just gos, Hm Shiny Object, Kinda like a commener gos, OMG Its a FireBall!, Why? Becouse the thing comming at me looks like fire, and its in the shape of a Ball, thus I beleve Its FireBall (Thouse it could be Meteroite) Mr T will know SOMETHING is there, But I beleve he wont exactly pin point it For the record, I have absoutely NO idea what he's talking about here. Teleport Circle? SR 32, Level 20 = 12 or higher to beat it, hm lets say somehow he gets +28 before level 20, that means he has a chance to beat it, But he said before level 20 right?, Good luck! Our DM has been very kind in regards to SR. He ruled that SR-10=PR, thank God. Thus, with a little research, I could easily develop a psionic teleport circle and not worry about him resisting it. So water deals nonlethal damage? Somebody should tell all those drowned people out there that they aren't actually dead, just unconscious. Yes, I know there's a large controversy about drowning the tarrasque. We had a slight argument about regeneration and drowning when our druid in bear form held a troll's head down in a lake. Our DM's ruling amounted to, "Regeneration heals wounds. It doesn't spontaneously create oxygen." And also, who cares about the Elemental Plane of Water? They have water elementals (and we can always summon more), sharks (plenty on the Material Plane), black dragons (too many on the Material Plane for my liking), and aboleths (our DM has hated those since he ran afoul of one while I was DMing. His Monster Manual begins with the allip). Plus, their chief export is what? Water (not counting summoned elementals). A commodity easily created with simple spells. Hint hint - Mr T Is Slow moveing, Get good Fast move speed, Fly in the sky, And poke him 858 times with something that can deal 1 damage to him without him healing it some way ... Now You can win!, That or MAYBE True Mind Swich it, I Beleve, I Forget how that spell works ... read that spell up Okay...what part of the whole "once a minute, speed increases to 200 feet" thing didn't you understand? That's an insane Jump modifier, easily good enough to reach and dismember me. Poke it 858 times with something that deals 1 damage and it can't heal? This is, I assume, after its DR, yes? Now, you know very well, having reminded me of it, that no form of damage deals lethal damage to the tarrasque. It can heal anything (note, healing is, as I said earlier, different from spawning oxygen). The only way to keep it from healing would be to throw a greymantle spell (from the Spell Compendium) over it and hope it failed the save, then whale on it. True Mind Switch is, once again, a psionic power. It's a 9th level power, is specific to telepaths (and I am a kineticist) costs about 10k XP, takes one minute to manifest, is permanent, allows power resistance and a Will save, and has a nasty little clause: If the subject's body dies while you are in it, you are dead. The subject immediately loses one level, but otherwise survives the experience in your natural body. If your natural body dies while the subject is in it, you immediately lose one level, but you likewise survive the experience in your new body. So either I get into the tarrasque's body and kill my old body, leaving me stuck in the tarrasque with one less level (leaving me, coincidentally, unable to manifest the power again), or I kill myself somehow and leave the tarrasque for my companions to kill, then get rezzed and hope I don't come back to life a) in the tarrasque, or b) with two levels gone instead of one. Hm, Whats your characters Will save anyways? DC 36 to not just "Run away" Be immune to fear will help No problem here. Immunity to fear is easy to come by (I have an item hanging around somewhere that grants it). No there are multibol Holes in his Plan, There great if ALL the holes are filled, But to normol rules I say he has only 20% chance of doing anything, and 99% chance that if he dose do something, Its to **** off MR T, That or send him to the plane of water for him to rampage I doubt he'll be rampaging very much with his bodily cavities full of water. Maybe I should just stuff him into the Negative or Positive Energy Plane instead and avoid all these messy drowning issues. |
| setekh08-12-07, 08:03 PM | Personally I'd send it to Baator. But not before knocking it out and gift-wrapping it. I'm sure Asmodeus can find some use for bit T in the blood war. ... Asmody: A gate? I wonder what this could be? A gift from a mortal supplicant perhaps? ^_^ Terrasque: Blaaaaaaatharrrrrrrrrrrgen! Asmody: ... :ahem: :censored: :headexplo Big A would be less than Happy I would think. |
| Comus08-12-07, 08:21 PM | Big A would be less than Happy I would think. You kidding? He funded the group that awakened the beast, and carefully manipulated the heroes into sending it to Baator, using agents to subtly suggest it. They open the gate, the Big T shows up in Baator... and is immediately subdued and confined, just one of over NINE THOUSAND identical Tarrasques from different Prime Material Planes that Asmodeus has collected for PART ONE of his next master scheme. tl;dr - JUST AS PLANNED. |

| DrStalker08-12-07, 11:06 PM | For a kinetiscist Telekinetic Sphere (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/telekineticSpherePsionic.htm) should make you invulnerable to the Tarasque. If you have the Burrowing Power (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicFeats.htm#burrowingPower) feat you can cast out of the sphere. (If you don't have it, psychic reformation yourself to get it.) After being swallowed whole you have a few minutes inside to do... something. Then you can teleport out. This doesn't help with the actual killing, but should keep you alive long enough for your friends plan to fail. (PS: make sure you can planeshift, just in case it does work... you wouldn't want to end up stuck on some unknown plane next to an angry Tarraque.) |
| Ace_of_time08-12-07, 11:35 PM | How do your PC know he has SR or any of his abilites without fight him first? Knowledge checks wouldn't cover this rare of a beast. More then likily your PCs would know anything about Big T before the battle began. |
| FponkDamn08-13-07, 03:33 AM | Here is how you kill the Tarrasque, my friends, from the safety of your own library! First, commit yourself to several long months, perhaps years, of Truename Research (or, for those less inclined to do this, pay someone else to do it). The Tome of Magic has all the rules for researching someone's Truename, and a lot of it is based off of Hit Die (huge) and obscurity (not so much). It also costs a lot of money - but hey, you're out to kill the Tarrasque here! It ain't gonna be cheap. The neat thing about Truename Research is that if you fail a check, you don't fail overall - you just don't get any farther that week. Checks are made by the week, so eventually, you'll rack up enough info to get the Truename of the Tarrasque. Then, you obtain (through whatever mundane or magical means you have available) a gemstone worth somewhere in the vicinity of 50,000 GP. Again, a hefty cost, but them's the breaks. You then inscribe the Truename of the Tarrasque onto said gem. Any jeweler will do for this, but try to pay for a nice one. You'll want this to look good. Prepare the spell Trap The Soul. 8th level wizard spell. Uses a gem as the focus (with a value of 1,000 gp per hit die of the creature you're gonna trap). If you have a creature's truename on the gem, then the spell only works on that creature - but works without benefit of save or SR. Just automatically works as long as the gem touches the creature. Throwing the gem is far too risky - even as a touch attack, you might fail, and the gem might break or be lost (however unlikely that may be, remember that you're probably only going to get one chance at this). So it's much better to dupe some patsy using some form of Dominate into holding the damned thing and getting eaten. You can always true ressurect him later (and what's a 25,000 GP diamond compared to what you've already spent?). Once the tarrasque so much as touches that gem (even if it's via the lining of his asophagus) he's in that gem. No fuss, no muss. You didn't even have to be there, except to scoop up the gem. The final step, and this is the most important, is to become a Lich. Use that gem as your phylactery, and make your exploits very widely known. You'll be invincible - since no matter what you do to your newly conquered planet, who would try to destroy you knowing that they had to unleash an angry Tarrasque to do so? - Johnny |

| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-13-07, 06:23 AM | Assuming normal armor for a fighter that 40-50' move. He could rush out of range before your bow (assuming you have access to epic bow or that deals over 40+ after DR) before losing his massive HP. Point? A Few problems with your post, 1) Not all fighter builds are pure strength based alot of fighters duel wield and have a backup bow, meaning there bow can do a nice amount of damage 2) A Few fighter feat tree in the bow is going to be nice 3) Rush only happins 1 a min, Thats 1 evey 10 rounds, at the very least fighter will be able to attack 8 of thouse rounds, Full round attacks mind you, that means more then 1 arrow a round 4) Admintine Arrows I beleve can ByPass DR, I Beleve Quivers of unending supply is great, that Or just have a **** load of Arrows, Hey when your level 18 You can basicly offord allmost anything + Its whole family, You got the money The fighter kills MR T, Just takes a while, A Long While |

The PC Will possibly see Big MR T, And Decide it looks like a good target to true mind swich, Triol and Error, the first time It possibly Fail, Not only that but the adverage caster useoly has some way on how to bypass SR, So you can do it, Inless your talking about "How to Kill MR T In round 1" Then You can do all these things to MR T, I Beleve one question was, The negitive down side of killing MR T, Which I gave, then I Said other ways of doing things A Wizard could still cast fireball if he wants to, You cant say "No You Cant!", Inless the wizard dosnt have the spell prepared or cant cast it due to no spell slots left or w/e, Im sure there is no real reason why the wizard is baned from casting fireball, inless you just ban the spell itself, Just becouse a PC Dosnt know something dosnt make it a bad idea, Im sure a Dumb Character, though in normol Games Intelligence/Wisdom if one is adverage or higher, then it dosnt matter - However back to the point, if a character is so dumb, that he dosnt know things, that can work out to your advantage, for example Diplomacy Boy! - Diplomacy person uses all these nice fancy words and eveything to make Barbian boy like him, and to trust him, You Beleve me now Barbian Boy! I Won the skill check! Big Bad Barbian - *Looks at Aligment* Im CE, You look rich and I beleve my character can take you on in a fight and get away with it, I Attack your character DIE! This example shows that no matter what, there is at least some way that you can "Ignore" Or bypass such a thing, At least in D&D Standerds |

Weekest save on MR T is +20 Will save, you'll need to increase the 11 to at least, 40, for 5%, Remeber insight Enchantment and all that good stuff do not stack, So, Inless your Epic level lets see, Lets get +29 Totol for your whole spell to work +10 Ability mod, That is if you did nothing but pump your save, Inless your playing in a high power game where you allow for high ability scors? so 19 is left, +8 from spells, +4 +4 again, that leaves 3, So that means 15% not 5%, And thats VERY unlikly with a level 1 spell, besides isnt Greese Ref? hm that means you 12, so 55% of the time he makes it, Illusions get Will Save if interacted, Some yes, Not all illusions however, You didnt name off your full list of spells you just said some Illusion, So it depends, your spell your useing is? Besides Stay in the Air, You can get a hell of a Range mod with the right feats, Rush 1 a min, Big deal, I "Run" To get to, oh in his face if I wanted, but thats lame considering it will Provoke an AoO Thats fine, However I Beleve True MindSwich can let you Keep your powers, Keep the MR T Body its stronger, you get its Phy abilitys I beleve, its mind is into your own body, Your body is stronger, theres a whole arguement of how that can happin, yes it take a while but hey 9th level spell is harder to resist and it targets the MR T Weekest save as well, So hey its your character however, Ive seen people argue about it and do it though, I was just saying some differnt ways on how you can deal with it Good, Immune to Fear, I Didnt know if you had immuneitys to it or not, Its good to know you do now, Im not trying to harp on you so you can relax a bit you know, You asked for negitive things, then I gave some examples/samples on how you "Could" Deal with it, But hey its nice to now know that the DM Game rules are allowing you to do things that in normol games wont happin, Thats fine though eveyone has a house rule or three, Mine useoly are the following 1) No True name magic 2) No Makeing punpun or anything near punpun 3) Obay your Aligment, and be polite and nice to the other players DM and the ingame characters, if your Evil fine rape the NPC, But BE POLITE! 4) SR / PR Are the same thing, Normol Psionic handbook read out on it however, |
| Destrieth08-13-07, 07:03 AM | Great Job, Your high level so GP Cost im sure isnt that much of a worrie if you realy want to kill 1 target, Problem though 80% Of the games I know BAN TrueName Magic, so What happins then now? Or, What if there isnt a True name of Mr T? Or what if for some strange reason you mess up on true name magic and get your own truename, Thus when you touch the stone you fall victem insteed? Hey who makes up truenames of the Monsters/PC, im sure its the DM, So, Alot of problems in my games, the first and formost is that Truename magic is baned in my games No one cares about your game. Here is how you kill the Tarrasque, my friends, from the safety of your own library! [snip] The final step, and this is the most important, is to become a Lich. Use that gem as your phylactery, and make your exploits very widely known. You'll be invincible - since no matter what you do to your newly conquered planet, who would try to destroy you knowing that they had to unleash an angry Tarrasque to do so? - Johnny And also, winner of the thread. |
| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-13-07, 07:03 AM | For the record, I have absoutely NO idea what he's talking about here. A comment said, It Means that people can still tell a spell is trying to effect them or that "Something" Is happning, the DMG Rules that if you make a saveing toss, You know something is happning, you may not know what, but you know something is happning So It Largely depends But hey, No need to rant on someone who was answering your question, It seems Im being targeted now becouse I stated that one way to kill MR T was to get Fighter in the air with a bow or something, Heck Get Scrolls and have him UMD or something no need to rant though I was only answering your questions |
| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-13-07, 07:12 AM | No one cares about your game. And also, winner of the thread. *Sigh* Very rude remark, I could say "No one cares about what you say", All I do is answer questions, And then asked a few of my own, And for some reason that gives you the right to harp down in my throat, Well, when I say "In My Games" Im just letting people know how Things go around me, To help explain why I answer how I do, So if you dont care fine, Be rude and dont bother trying to learn or anything, Just in my games we try to run things as clousely to the rules as possible while makeing it fun for eveyone, And I was wounding if he had some way of how to easyoly deal with MR T when Truename magic is baned, But again you and others have to resort to rude remarks insteed of thinking about the question, Be polite plz, I dont want a mod to come into this and give warnings, or worse |

| Ace_of_time08-13-07, 08:26 AM | Point? A Few problems with your post, 1) Not all fighter builds are pure strength based alot of fighters duel wield and have a backup bow, meaning there bow can do a nice amount of damage 2) A Few fighter feat tree in the bow is going to be nice 3) Rush only happins 1 a min, Thats 1 evey 10 rounds, at the very least fighter will be able to attack 8 of thouse rounds, Full round attacks mind you, that means more then 1 arrow a round 4) Admintine Arrows I beleve can ByPass DR, I Beleve Quivers of unending supply is great, that Or just have a **** load of Arrows, Hey when your level 18 You can basicly offord allmost anything + Its whole family, You got the money The fighter kills MR T, Just takes a while, A Long WhileI'm sorry but I don't see anywhere where it says any Admintine weapon over comes DR. You would be better off making it Tranmuting (+2 bonus from MIC). Right he has speed of 20' and you will have say 50' to be fair. for 10 rounds that's you gain 100'. but once during those 10 rounds he will move 300' puting him gaining 200' every ten rounds. Range inc for long comp is 110' so ten would be 1100' which puts him out of range in 60 rounds and you at a -5 to att. Since your moving with him that means no full round actions. And I still don't see how you would damage 40+ with one shot. You would have to do 15 extra damage per round to take him down before he got away. |

Hey who makes up truenames of the Monsters/PC, im sure its the DM, So, Alot of problems in my games, the first and formost is that Truename magic is baned in my games The only thing I had wrong with it is the spell says the creature has to take or accept it in order for the trigger to work. I don't think just touching it would work. The DC for that check each week is DC55 and takes 24 successes to complete. Max rank is 23+2 for truename skill not including other bonus. cost is a 1,000gp, 500gp with library, and 250gp with library and truename research feat. That could get costly and without the benfits from items you would never be able to get it. Oh and we will just hope the gem doesn't broke from the teeth and the blud damage on the way down. It is a bite attack after all. I'm with you seem like there could be a faster way. |
| Ace_of_time08-13-07, 09:03 AM | Or lower his fort save and boost you caster level check to over come SR and cast Sphere of Ultimate destuction and summon elemental monolith 1st to keep him busy. This is still the best way so far the summons takes care of the regen and the sphere works atleast 5d6 every round. There is a spell that lowers his SR by 10 and another that raises your caster level to overcome it by 10 so SR shouldn't be a Problem. All you have to do is float up in the air and try to drain some of his fort save away. |
| starfire31108-13-07, 10:18 AM | *sigh* Here we go again. My rule is that the terrasque took non-lethal damage from drownng equal to 10+ his max HP, this non-lethal damage keeps acruing every round, so each round after drowing Big-t Takes 868 Non-lethal damage. Assuming the version you are using has 858 max HP. This should be more than sufficient than to keep him out for some time, even if the elemental plane of water were to dry up. |

Unless you can close it before then. Rule say hold breath a number of rounds equal 2 times con. That is 70 rounds before even having to breath again and Page 149 in the DMG says that water dominant planes have air pockets and if he can get to one in 70 rounds wouldn't. There are not just fish that live there. There are settlements and they could just as while just send him back to. |

| Ace_of_time08-13-07, 11:11 AM | I posted your post to show where we were in the discussion about the water plane thing not to you. sorry. RAW say save each round after 70 so it would be some time. |
| DracoPhoenix08-13-07, 11:32 AM | Here is how you kill the Tarrasque, my friends, from the safety of your own library! - Johnny Beats my (repeated till it works) Mind switch, astral seed (move crystal somewhere safe, personal demi-planes my favourite), teleport to a force cage of some kind, dispel MS, die. But then, A Tarrasque with telepath class levels will be just a little more scary for the "mindless" variety. (oblig. quote: "This isn't the Terrasque you are looking for") Hmm. Arn't diplomacy & bluff psion skills? Time to turn Big T's bad rep around methinks. Big T as a mediator.... |
| LostPassWordDoesNotWork08-13-07, 05:16 PM | 1. What happens in the Big T slides into the gate to the plane of water? It swims though it again and enters the material plane. All this is done as part of it's move action, on it's turn, after your readied dispel spell would have trigged for moving into the grease that moved it into the gate. Also it's not marked with (D) so you cannot dismiss it as a free action and must wait until next turn to choose to stop concentrating on it for it to end. 2. I have no clue what ectoplasmic sheen does, but grease only effects a 10x10 area. You would have just as much luck as casting gate in front of it as casting gate directly behind it when it slides backwards 5~10 feet. 3. Climbing Example Surface or Activity: A slope too steep to walk up, or a knotted rope with a wall to brace against. DC 0 Surface is slippery DC +5. Catching Yourself When Falling: It’s practically impossible to catch yourself on a wall while falling. Make a Climb check (DC = wall’s DC + 20) to do so. It’s much easier to catch yourself on a slope (DC = slope’s DC + 10). Climbing DC to catch your self while sliding down a greased hill: DC 15. If the Big T fails it's balence check it makes makes a climb check to catch it's self. It has +17 and skills doesn't fail on a 1. Oh, and it eats the wizard when it climbs to the top. 4. When your a Terrasque, you don't chase your food for miles on end. You refuse to chase a figment that has no smell too. Instead you wait for the next stupid adventer with a lame plan to offer him/her self as food. |

First off, Like I said the truename magic may be baned or not, It is in my games, And I was woundering if there was another way of how to do such things without true name magic, so far the best is to just fly and pick him off with round after round of combat And My Answer was to his Questions, There for I Beleve such things Should happin, After All I didnt know his DM Made it so SR - 10 = PR in his game. If I did I wouldnt of made a big deal about overcomming SR. Still your posts was rude and so where others, |
| WorldsLargestDungionFan08-13-07, 10:29 PM | Ace_of_time - The Gate Greese and DC of Such spell I beleve is the DC of you just stright casting it, However considering in some way your able to make it into a trap and then increase the Trap DC, Then fine, again this would have been nice to have known, Normol spell casting (Like Delayed Fireball or Delayed Metorite) Requires SR and Saves, (Depending on the spell) So Thus, I Was argueing how did you get a level 1 spell DC to become 55 when obaying the normol rules of the DMG However I See its not a "Spell" At all its more of a "Trap", woulda been nice to have known Anyways, MR T Would eat other things besides something It cant get, eveything deals nonleathol damage to it, For drowning you just fall down to 0 HP, it wont kill MR T, Remeber MR T Eats anythnig, Im sure it rather eat the trees then your false animol running away, MR T Is hungry and he has better things to do in that round |

Then you're immune to all his attacks, since he has no AoEs. Sure, it's a bit of rules abuse but this is a silly trap with a silly goal so silly tactics should be allowed. |
