| autolycus01-15-04, 04:08 PM | I'm trying to create a new character for a campaign. We're starting at low level - maybe 1st, no more than 4th. I know it's an overdone concept, but I want to make a character who is a blind monk. Is there any way to get blindsight as a low level character? If not are there any other options that would make this character playable? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. -autolycus |

All that speed and extra attacks mean precisely nothing if you have to guess where your foe is--and it means doing that if your foe has reach or is darting around, which even the blindfight feat won't help you with. And it gets even worse against spellcasters or creatures with ranged capabilities. I don't want to crush your dream into the dirt, as I like monks, but don't do it. |

You would be blind, but you'd get blindfight as a bonus feat, and a +8 bonus to listen. This compensates somewhat, but you still are at a disadvantage compared to a sighted person. You could make listen checks to target people, using the rules for invisibility(since everyone is invisible to you). After 1st level you could take the blindsense and blindsight abilities as feats. You'd still be at a disadvantage but it would be managable, depending on the campaign. If the game revolved around a medusa cult, or lots of invisibility or sneaking around in the dark, or illusionists, you'd probably be pretty well off. |

| SharsDarkestMinion01-16-04, 11:13 AM | there are 3 ways i know of to get blindsight blindsight 5': feat from sword and fist blind master???: dont remember the name, but a prc from quintessential monk blindfold of blindsight: 30 (or maybe even 60...) ft of blindsight for a mere 9000 gp. found in arms and equipment quide. |
| Aluroon01-17-04, 12:00 AM | I think the idea of playing a blind monk is cool. it opens up quite a few roleplaying operutrinitys. im sure your dm will allow you to in some way make up for your sight. blind sight is a maybe but is quite powerful, maybe to powerful He may allow you certon checks to find opponites. He may just allow you to have other abillitys that may ofset it...cant think of ne now Sorry i could not help more....all i could do is repeat everyone else |
