(( First off...whoever got my DM-Rant post deleted....thank you. Got a bit too hot under the collar. So again, thank you. ))

Now, onto the really important bit: My Monk just got his hands on a Necklace of Natural Weapons that just happens to have the Brilliant Energy enchanment. My question is, since the Monk's fists are now composed of energy rather than flesh and blood, while I have the Necklace activated, can I still use my hands to grab a healing potion or snatch arrows, or are they considered intangible?

I guess you would not be able to grab anything made of non living matter. However, since deflect arrows merely states that you need only have 1 free hand, not that it actually needs to be used in the deflecting attempt, it should still work....:P
I think you are screwed similarly with the healing potion scenario.

Sod....alright, that means I just have to use Brilliant Energy on my size 15 feet then...wait, does that mean I'll sink into the ground up to the middle of my shins if my feet are composed of energy?

Uh-oh.....I was wondering why the new DM was grinning so broadly last night.... :nonono: ....Say it ain't so!

I'm not really sure about this whole topic. But I will give what insight I may....

I think that brilliant energy can only be enchanted on slashing type weps. That may be your first problem and if i'm wrong correct me asap. I don't have my books on me atm.

Other than that I am not really sure what to say. You could talk to your DM about it and see what you guys can come up with. I think a good compromise on the subject would be best. But I am not RAW specific. If a player can make a good argument as to why the rule should change for him, or that it makes gameplay easier I will generally accept it.

Good question Sloth...*looks up the DM book*
Brilliant Energy has it's significant portion....yadayadayada....Armor bonuses to AC.....blah blah blah...This property can only be applied to melee weapons, thrown weapons or ammunition!

So that's a yes to my Unarmed Monk Attacks....The book ((Dungeon Master's Guide)) Does say that the significant portion, such as the swordblade, axe-head or arrowhead, is transformed into light, although it does not modifiy the item's weight. Heavy Light? ((Yes, I know it's D&D's version of a lightsabre, bite me)) Then again, Fire Elementals 'walk', and they are composed of living fire, whereas my fists and feet would be composed of living light...apparently magic items can be turned on and off with a free action, so it shouldn't been that much of a problem to grab a potion or a falling ally....I just wanted to know if my hands/feet would be tangible or not...

No item crafter would deliberately craft such a nerfed-out item. It isn't cursed, so the crafter must have expected to see use with him/herself or an ally. Therefore, unless this crafter had an intelligence of 4 or really hated his friends, it should be useable by you. It just isn't logical otherwise.

See what I'm saying?

If it really does make my hands/feet intangible energy, I'll just save up some gold and get the Ghost Touch enchantment put into the Amulet....otherwise the DM said it's fine, since Brilliant Energy Weapons can 'parry' and such, was just checking the mechanics of such a powerful tool!

Start telling your DM you attack with every part of your anatomy interchangeably.
"I head-butt him with my brilliant energy forehead"
"I kick him with my brilliant energy foot"
"I bodyslam him with my brilliant energy torso"

Eventially your entire body will be brilliant energy, and then you can ask him why physical objects are capable of causing you injury.

As a sidenote: amulet of natural weapons can be one of the stupidest magical items ever.

If you can pass through inorganic material with ease, and you change your feet to brilliant energy, why don't you fall through the floor?

You use your fine sense of balance to maintain your footing on the ants crawling on the floor...;)
