| Brillock of Ithicus02-17-04, 10:34 PM | ok, so the under constant pressure duke of ithicus has purchased himself a group of adventurers, 3 to be exact they are Fulcon = Paladin human, (player/friend, who had the hardest times getting into character and actually being a pivitol point in the story until we all made it our problem to do so, now he kinda sorta leads the group, with help from the rest of us. he still likes to level up real fast, and thinks that everyone can be as cool as (sp) renionkensyin) Baylock= Old Paladin who after fighting some level draining creatures started his new life at 1st level as a fighter to regain on past deeds undone. (good friend of mine, who id say likes to stay away from gaining levels real fast, likes to earn his exp, and enjoys a good interaction session as much as a hack and slash!) and me Brillock of Ithicus = human , wizard specialist Evocation (i thought keeping my background from my dm, would be cool kinda sorta, i could shock him with it, it wasn't anything major, but boy was i wrong, he had the people i had in my bground story by coinincidence playing major parts., needless to say my pass was rolled up happily by me, my homeworld was changed and it all sorta simmered down there im happy now he is too.) Now to the problem at hand, mind you this problem is in character, id like your suggestions though, becuase the DM is my brother (he's 23 and im 20 so anyways) and i used to dm for us and i know the books and all, so he turns to me for help now i turn to you fellas. So back to the problem, simple 1st level adventure the Duke hires us for a messily 400 gp for the Palidans sake i told him i needed this minor ammount to fund my research (which i do!) the Dukes' problem is that several townspeople where captured by orc's and the camp sits 2 days trek just outside the town near the orc bands territory. he wants the job done in 4 days, and he has wind that a entourage of barbarians and orcs are going to transport the slaves away from this land. He wants us 3 to stop them at least get the prisoners back. No problem, great were going to set out get them back. So we leave that night , 2 days of random encounter rolls *(we made it safely there) and were at the hill just outside the camp, i send my familiar a ferret over the top to investigate he sends me back bits of information that we use to storm the initial defense. I magic missle 2 orcs coming up the hill and burning hands them once they step within range. I sent both of my campanions to the flanks but they were not needed, i got luckly high rolls on all three spells. We make our way down to the small camp , we made note of the cage holding the prisoners, just as we did that though 2 more orcs charged up on us, both of which saw what i did and charged at me, through both of my companions threatened areas. Swiftly my friends in arms dispatched them before they laid a hand on me. We scavanged the area for key's to the cage only to find the orc in charge, which caught me flate footed, and pounded me with a critical hit dropping me down to -4 hit points. The paladin swiftly came to my aide, and luckly my fighter friend Baylock returned the favor to him and crited him with his fullblade! beuty! 4d8 points of damage plus his strength leveled the foul creature. After searching some more we found 3000 gp in valuebles, and a scroll which i deciphered script and found out that tommarrow morning the convoy to take the prisioners would arrive, at the bottom scribbled down was exact numbers. 50 creatures it stated, barbarians and orcs. We actually pondered the thought of arming the captives and fighting them, but the paladin stepped in and stated the obvious! there not fighters. So the 3 of us devised after about 2 hours of thinking a plan, The paladin would make for the shoreline with the and use the terrain to keep the people hidden, and he would leave immidiatly to get them back to the castle. Me and Baylock the fighter were going to go off in the other direction obviously leaving tracks and paths trying to trick the orcs to follow us instead of the paliden... Well after a few moments of pondering, i devised in even craftier ordeal! I would use my spell craft knowledge to create a diversion. The goal, turn the camp to ash and leave remenants that some unholy force was angry that the orcs did not worship him so he took the prisioners as sacrafices and killed all the orcs, we did the whole summoning circle stuff and i had some candles in my bag and extra empty spellbook and some pens inks, and parchments. We used orc blood on the parchment to write in abyssal the exact note, scorched the camp, the spellbook, the cage everything we strew the bodies of the orcs around and id say made a pretty convincing diversion. The DM asked to roll a bluff check, which i did but then i asked why, stating that I used my intelligence to bluff not my charisma... he said then roll a forgery check... i did that too... however. The concern is which would it be, or would the DM assign a DC for the actual orcs that arrive the next morning at the camp? what do you guy's think, how would this all turn out? at the moment me and Baylock have taken off into the woods moving real slow hiding our tracks. when i get far enough out were summoning mounts and making fast for the town. What do you guy's think and also should have we faced the whole lot of the 50' of them! :behold: i don't think we'd have survived the 50 creature incounter :smirk: |
| Save_vs_DM02-18-04, 03:00 AM | I like your bluff idea! Very clever and wizard-like. Personally, as a DM I would have ruled the following. One, make a Knowledge (Religion) check for the divine note. Then, make a Knowledge (Arcana) check for creating the fake circle and such. Then, when the hoardes arrive, they get two opposed checks. First would be Knowledge (Religion) for the note, the DC of your check result. Second would be Knowledge (Arcana) for the bluff, the DC of your check result. That makes the most sense to me. Feel free to show this to your DM> Cheers, save-vs-dm |
| Brillock of Ithicus02-18-04, 09:40 AM | sounds like a fair enough rulling basically because the orcs don't know it was humans, unless of course they had scouts that saw us at the camp or the orcs that show up are like master arcane knowledge individuals... but with the luck we got on our side it probobably is just a cranky orc that leads them all... as long as we didn't leave any human residue left behind and our tracks are hidden well enough meaning that other orc's don't make obscene high search checks.... we should be good becuase i got an insane high sckill check for my knowledges at 2nd level! :) But good, if there are any other suggestions please do not hold back... |
