| Necropolitan04-14-06, 02:45 PM | Alrighty, I'm trying to build a massively fast character, so far I've got what he looks like, what his armor and weapons should be, all the nitty gritty roleplayign bits ready. But I've not a clue where to go with the mechanics, it's been a LONG time since I've tried for a mad-speed and multiple attack fighter. So far I want him to be about level 15-ish, but I should be able to scale this level up or down easily enough for whichever campaign I apply for with him. The concept is a madly skilled acrobatic two weapon fighter, using a pair of Khopesh as his weapons. He's using my personal Scorpion Parasite template, which gives him a +4 bonus to his strength, Dexterity and Con at level 15, and a natrual armor bonus of +19 at that level as well. It also gives him a virtual Wild Talent feat, like the Ranger's cobmat style. My idea was to use a mix of psionic combat feats and Opputunity-invoking attacks to make him get a massive amount of moves in combat, for example Combat Reflexes and Improved trip with the Khopesh: a trip attempt as he's threatened, then an instant attack afterwards. Also feats like Sidestep Charge and Up The Walls would make his mobility and evasionary tactics quite extreme. My issue is, to get him all the feats he needs to do this, like the Two-Wepon Fighting tree, I'll need a class with alot of feats, but he's also going to need a decent Will Save and a Good reflex save. It's been awhile since I've made a character, so I can't seem to figure out what class to take, or if I should multiclass fighter/rouge, fighter/ranger or what. Help would be GREATLY appriciated. |

Whirlwind Attack is hard to ualify for, and by the time you get it you normally have enough attacks not to make it worthwhile anyway, but look closely to see if it works for your character. You might consider teh Swashbuckler class rather than a straight fighter, or the Duelist PrC. Try the Character Optimization boards as well. |

I was considering using the Unearthed Arcana rule for Geshalt characters, and combining ranger and fighter; I'd get all the fighter's bonus feats, plus the two-weapon abilitys and good saves from the ranger for free, as well as evasion. Combining fighter and Rouge would get some good abilites as well. The problem is that I'm not sure what a Khopesh qualifies as, it's been a long time since I've seen it's weapon entry, but ti was basically a longsword you can make trip attacks with, 1d8 damage with a 18-20/x2 critical, if I recall right. Would that make it a medium or light weapon? Also I haven't seen the Swashbuckler class outside of D20 Modern. |

If you gestalt, how about using some feats and taking fighter/monk? With a feat like Whirling Steel Strike (Eberron) you can turn a weapon into a specialist monk weapon and flurry with it like a blender ... |

With a feat like Whirling Steel Strike (Eberron) you can turn a weapon into a specialist monk weapon and flurry with it like a blender ... Now THAT is a neat idea. I didn't think of that, I don't have any of my books anymore, my sister sill has all of them since I moved. Monk and Fighter would give me insane saves, and not to mention all the figthing abilites, and bonuses to his natural weapons gained through the Parasite template. I didn't know you could get a Monk's Weapon feat; does it increase the damage, or just enable it to be used in a flurry like a Kama or Bo-staff? If you could direct me to an SRD or thread on this, that'd be great...as before, I don't have my books. |
| Argon_Asimov04-15-06, 04:53 PM | Yeah, I'm going to allow a fifteenth-level ghestalt character with setting-specific feats and a player-created template that does nothing but boost the stats he wants. This character does not and will never exist anywhere but in your mind. You say your going to "apply" to a campaign. Well, apply to my campaign where typicly, you will: be fourth level to start at the highest, roll your stats at the table where everyone can see, not be allowed to take setting-specific feats, not be allowed to take custum templates for no reason but min-maxing, not be allowed to play a psion purely for the feats and abilities you would gain, and not be playing a ghestalt character. I have a feeling that most reasonable DMs would range somewhere close to my fairly liberal standards. So I'm wondering just where you think you are going to get to play a character of this nature. Now, I know your character background is really great, and I'm sure this faceless, nameless character whose only identifying characteristic is that he cuts stuff up real good has an elaborate and meaningful background and a strong and memorable personality, but from what I've seen, your entire focus in on the mechanical aspects of the character. In that regard, you are willing to take whatever broken combination of classes and feats you can imagine to inssure that you get to roll the most dice possible. Heck, you are even just making things up to get more bonuses. Things that are totally unjustified non-sense that in no way accord with reason, the RAW, or any sort of a lore / background. You of course, are free to make up whatever you want for your character, but the fact is that your character is nothing unless you are in a group. All you have is mechanics. If the DM strips you (as he should) of this ridiculous set-up you are planning, you've essentially got nothing for a character. Go back and start over. This time, worry about the character as a real person, not as an amalgum of numbers and bonuses. |

You seem to know a whole lot about me without evne talking to me or knowing anythign about my character beyond mechanics. Gee are you Miss Cleo in disguise? Will I win the lottery this week? Perhaps you should shut your mouth and then look at the fourm header "What's a Player to Do?" I came here because I WANTED help, not you're jaded rump venting on my character whom I was SEEKING HELP IN BUILDING. Gee, here's a kid with some obvious problems, let's been a good friend and crap all over it. Now, does anyone else think that was a bit uncalled for? The DM in question doesn't seem to have an issue with it, aside from asking me to edit the template with him - which I happen to be doing. Seriously friend, you acted like I just ran over your cat, then cast 'Death Knell' on it's corpse. |
| Necropolitan04-17-06, 12:13 PM | One more thing. You really, REALLY shouldn't harp on my 'character development'. I didn't POST his storyline, because I figured people didnt want to read a 85 page-in-word long thread. |
