BUTTERFLY RACIAL TRAITS
• Fine: As a Fine creature, a Butterfly gains a +8 size to AC, a +8 bonus on attack rolls, and a +16 size bonus on Hide checks. His lifting and carrying limits are one-eighths of those of a medium character.
• Butterfly base land speed is 10 feet, and base fly speed 30 feet.
• Automatic Languages: None. Butterfly’s cannot speak, but can understand Common. Bonus Languages: All.
• (Con –2, Dex +8, Str –10) I used the Changes to Statistics by Size table, but reversed all the bonuses and penalties. A.k.a.

Old Size: Small

New Size: Medium

The bonus would be Str + 4, Dex -2, and Con +2. I used the logic that if New Size and Old Size switched, the bonuses would, blah blah blah. So basically, I took a standard Medium PC and shrunk him to Fine.

For personality/description, I was thinking along the lines of being turned into a Butterfly by Wiz/Sorc, to keep Int, Wis, and Cha, and pursue Psionic class (no hands, hard for Wiz/Sorc). Any comments or remarks on how to play would be appreciated.

I would at least increase the con penalty, and also I would remove the land speed entirely - butterflies don't really walk, and they certainly can't go ten feet in 6 seconds (and that is before considering double moves or running). I would say they could move at fly 20 max, and they can only move a significant distance when flying (by which I mean they can't take 5 ft. steps when grounded either).

I would probably also jack up the str penalty, just so that a player couldn't put an 18 into str, and then claim they could dead lift 20 lbs, or push 50 lbs. Then I wouldn't allow them to use items, unless they were magically supported/floating (ioun stones, for example) or possibly if they had some morphing/wildshape ability (like that armor ability that lets it wildshape with the druid wearing it). Oh, I would also rule that you don't have the surface area to allow for psionic tatoos (except for possibly one on your wings).

Also, I would hope that you have a lot of power points, because you will be using message to communicate a lot. I would probably allow a 'sign language' of frienzied flying to communicate very general concepts via a bluff roll.

Thats about what I can think of off the top of my head. It might make an interesting character though, maybe a thrallherd - who would suspect that the butterly on the thrall's shoulder is actually the character?
