Currently IMC, a paladin has lost her mount. As we are going by the 3.0 rules rather than 3.5 for paladin mounts, it is likely she won't be getting a new one for quite a while.

So I thought of buying her a mount in the meantime. I have a budget of 9,000 gp. What would be a good mount? I'm looking for particularly exotic ones.

If your DM allows access to the Arms and Equipment Guide, I'd reccomend the rather inappropriate mount of a Rust Monster. (pg. 86) It's within the stated price range (1000 base, 1200 training). However cute (to me) and intimidating (to your foes) a Rust Monster may be, it feels inappropriate for a typical metal clad paladin.

A Rhino may be a better fit, (Arms and Equipment again, pg. 81) if only becuase it won't be tempted to munch on your armor. Additionally, it's cheaper, at 200 for base, and 50 for training.

What it really comes down to is personality matching. What sort of animal would this paladin be?

She's an Aasimar Sorcerer 1 / Ranger 1 / Paladin 8. She's going for the Windrider prestige class.

Actually? The first reply I got after asking a player IMC, was the rust monster! But it was meant as a joke.

Her previous mount was a griffon.

Any flying mount, such as a pegasus or hippogriff would be appropriate.

A female aasimar? She'd probably be allowed to befriend a unicorn, but I can't see one of them being on the open market, unless you meet a VERY dodgy trader...

Apart from that, a pegasus would be my first suggestion for the windrider class, assuming its the one Im thinking of.

A Draquine (http://www.geocities.com/edymnionii/Draquine.html), perhaps? Say a Silver or a Gold.

Then she'll hava a budget problem, I think.
A adult draquine costs 10000 without training costs, and an egg is 7000 without training costs.
So an adult is out of the question (more than 9000), and the egg isn't possible (ever seen a paladin riding into battle on an egg (togepi ;)).

But serious, i don't think there's enough money.

What about a giant owl, or eagle?

Anyways, I'd likely go for the eagle over the owl.

So far, a griffon seems to be the best idea, given that it has a higher Hit Dice than the pegasus or giant eagle. Her last mount (a griffon) was killed fighting a stone golem.

I really like the giant eagle and pegasus ideas though. I'll also look into whether the DM will allow any dragon-type mounts.

Getting another griffion would be the easest thing, because you don't have to worry about your skill ride (assuming ofcourse, the palading had any skill in riding a griffon).

But it might be nice to chance flavours.
