| Lonestar03-18-04, 06:51 PM | For the lord of the Iron Fortress campain, I am playing a 10 year old vashar Ur-Priest, with 6 levels of wizard, and 10 of Ur-priest. He is lawful evil, highly intellegent, aroggent, self centered, malicious deceptive kid. For simplicity, we decided to give him standard stats, and I have already given him a story. I am thinking that he will definitly be leaning towards being a killing-things style preist with only the neccesary healing. What feats and stuff would you suggest, I have only played one character before (a half silver-dragon psion rogue ninja of the crecent moon! Hey, wipe that disgusted look off your face!). |
| Lonestar03-18-04, 09:59 PM | *a tumbleweed rolls by and the wind whistles coldly past* Oh-well. I guess a man has gotta be evil on his own! Like some rite of manhood. |
| fruits and vegetables03-18-04, 11:37 PM | Hmmmm, I think i may want to create a kid character around 12-14 years now. It may be fun to play those traits that kids have and amplify that with character levels. "You do not want to date ME! Power word Kill." |
| SnowbearK03-19-04, 12:00 AM | Originally posted by Lonestar *a tumbleweed rolls by and the wind whistles coldly past* Says it all I think... I think there are just very few people who play that kind of style. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland03-19-04, 12:14 AM | reminds me of Coulmni Agni: the Cutest lil' sorceress in the whole wide world. She was more cruel evil than kill evil. Evil in the way any 12 year old is at school. |
| Arkenian03-19-04, 12:44 AM | Gah. This evokes bad images of the Khmer Rouge . . . (For those not familiar with Cambodia, think of an evil mix of Nazis, Stalinists and Maoists willing to give children the authority to order death or torture) It's . . . *shivers* I play an evil campaign, but there's limits. FWIW d20 modern (and presumably the d20 modern SRD) has rules for stats for children younger than adult. |

Like some rite of manhood. first, you might want to wait more then 3 hours to bump your own post. That's rude. Second, I think there's a board around here somewhere more character optimization. There use to be, at least. They answer these "how to I make myself super-uber" questions. And they're dang good at it. |
| SmiloDan03-19-04, 09:17 AM | Sounds kind of like Bane from "Dragon Wing" of the Death's Gate Cycle by Hickman and Weis. |
| Taran Alvein03-20-04, 12:17 PM | Get lots and lots of poisons. Deadly poisons. Join the group of adventurers pretending to be some innocent kid, but plot all of their deaths. Be ready to kill them at any time. Or at least, that's how I played the Halfling Assassin who was pretending to be a little kid who had come to kill a member of my party. One of the party members is nobility, but his father, a psychotic maniac, wants him dead. When you kill them, do it when it's your day to make breakfast. Or, if everyone just eats trail rations all the time, be "nice" enough to make breakfast. |
| Edymnion03-21-04, 12:04 AM | Frankly, I want to know how a 10 year old made it to 16th level. Thats something most people never even get CLOSE to in their entire lives. Was this kid killing orcs before he learned to walk? I'm sorry, but I just don't see how a 10 year old ever managed to survive the kinds of encounters it would take to hit that high of a level, much less how ANY priesthood, much less the Ur Priests would accept him into the group as a full fledged member. |
| fruits and vegetables03-21-04, 12:37 AM | I do not see a problem with it as long as the DM is cool with doing it. Movies are frequently made of special children with great powers. off the top of my head, Golden child Firestarter Star Wars And then there are books. It might be cool to do it. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland03-21-04, 06:04 AM | Level isn't always a measure of how long you've been adventuring in fact, it only really means that when you start the game at level 1. This goes double for spellcasters. A child can be born with great power, study, or be trained relentlessly. I use this theme a lot, actually; people possessing more power than they can rightly or competently handle and people seeking to manipulate this. Some people start at level 16 and stay there, some start at level 1 and advance to Epic. Its all in the dice. |
| Lonestar03-22-04, 11:14 AM | You forgot Akira!;) |
| Mumbling Rogue03-22-04, 01:18 PM | Why don't you try playing a normal stereotypical character first instead of children or a half-dragon/werewolf/twirling dancing/uber class/splatbook +12/min-max character? You don't need all that to roleplay well. It just seems wierd to want to play as a kid. Most of the time they are annoying, and most characters wouldn't party up with a 10 year old. Well, maybe Paladins would. My Rogue would butcher the kid without a thought, strip him of any equipment he got in his 16 levels, then cut his head off and hang the body from his parents house. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland03-22-04, 04:36 PM | Why would anyone want to play a stereotype? Honestly? Dumb, fighter, ultraviolent barbarian, LS paladin, crotchety wizard. Feh. |
| Mumbling Rogue03-22-04, 09:47 PM | Because this is his SECOND character. Crawl before you walk. There is something to be said for wild characters later on, but at the start a person should learn to roleplay with the BASICS. Then, it is them roleplaying, not their mix of character races and classes. |
| Darkest9003-22-04, 09:54 PM | Child +2 Dexterity, -2 Strength, -2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom Usually one size smaller than the base race -1 Level Adjustment That's my homebrew template that can be added to practically any humanoid race. What do you guys think? |

As a DM, I would appreciate this guy muchly. |
| Iry03-24-04, 01:05 AM | Does anyone recall the name of the Child from the Netheril Empire of the Forgotten Realms setting? The one that brought forth the fall of the empire and was responsible for displacing the very goddess of magic herself? He was the highest, if not one of the highest, leveled Archmages in the land. Now, of course, he was a literary mechanism, in the D&D world, but I sincerely forgot his name? |

What do you guys think? I would give children a -2 in each stat, and that would be for a character in their early teens. The average adult is far better in every stat than the average child. For younger kids, I would be tempted to give a much higher penalty, since a -2 is hardly representative of the difference between an adult and a child, on average. |

Damn- that is super funny... From the day I held him I knew the toddler was special. He was casting cleric spells at third level... I'm sorry but my origional take on this post was how to deal with disruptive real life kids... Ahh tooo bad... |

But you must remember, the characters that anyone in DnD plays would most likley be above average. Average scores for humans in ever stat is 10-11. Most characters have stats 9-16, with the occasional character with stats 10-20. So saying an adventuring child MUST have a reduced stats is rediculous. All in all, I think that the child Uber-priest thing would be funny, just not a murdous one. Mabey killing for stupid reasons. |
| Mumbling Rogue03-25-04, 10:30 PM | @Vaalingrade Ashland: Well, that is just how you DM. I personally would hate to have someone who does crazy things like playing 16th level children. And I really, really dislike all the subraces and tons of multiclassed characters people make. Different strokes for differet folks, but thanks for sharing! |

| Deluxe 247 G03-26-04, 01:28 PM | Okay, heres what I would do if I was DMing this one. The kid's father is a king. The Uber dudes train the kid(born magical, gift from some diety, destines to be a diety, himself), and then convince him to kill his father. He does it, and covers it up well with his young "innocence". He takes the throne and says the Uber dudes are his "council". Uber then runs the country. This goes fine and dandy for a while, but then, some LG clerics/paladins/fighters learn of this and they try and bust this up. They quest into the country, kill the Uber dudes, and take the kid back to their homeland because they feel sorry for him(thinking he's a hostage and not knowing he was behind all of it). The kid plays along, and learns about them, then kills them(or at least tries), then the campaign can either skyrocket there, or end. |
| Deluxe 247 G03-26-04, 01:42 PM | Well i thought i was in the DM section, but im in the PC section...So if i were you, i would get stuff that has permanent Hide Alingment cast into it and if anyone questions you, say its a gift from a dead member of your family. I generally use a mood ring for this. its whatever color you act like. so druids are green. If you're lawful good, then its a bright green, if you're CE, then its a very dark green. Thats generally what I do. I havent figured out the points cost, but i also generally make this ring hide see true sight...figure points? |
