Hey guys, the complete arcana book gives a sample blood magus (Sorc6/BldMgs2) that has the following spells inscribed on his skin:
dimension door, fly, invisibility, mirror image, remove curse, and any one other spell of the DM's choice.

The Blood Magus description says: "Scarification(ex).... Effectively, a blood magus gains the Scribe Scroll feat (PHB99) using an alternative medium." If you go look at the Scribe Scroll feat, it says: "You can create a scroll of any spell you know."

So far so good you may say... But the problem is that none of these spells are on this sample character's list of known sorcerer spells. So how the heck did this sample Blood Magus scarificate/scribe spells that he does not know?

Through the magic of poor editing I'd wager.

The short awnser is: No he can't scribe spells he doesn't know.

blood mage is prestige class. the base class can know the spells. so, no problem

he may have swapped the spells or used scrolls.

edit: ok, scrolls wont work.

you´re right, it´s wrong ;)

Could perhaps a wizard, who knows the spell, have assisted him in scribing? What are the rules regarding collaboration in regards to creating magical items.

The sample PrC characters often have editing errors in them. Just something to expect.

as long as a crafter has access to the prerequisite spells, for example from a helpful Wizard assistant, he can indeed craft magic items which require spells he doesnt personally know.

Note that all items have prerequisites in their descriptions. These prerequisites must be met for the item to be created. Most of the time, they take the form of spells that must be known by the item's creator (although access through another magic item or spellcaster is allowed). [emphasis mine]

he could even use a scroll to create another scroll - though there would be very little point in doing so.

Scroll to scar I'd say is fair game. By the rules, nope.

Why not? Unless there's an additional clause in the class feature, it's entirely possible. Scarification acts like Scribe Scroll, and it's possible (if normally pointless) to create a scroll of a scroll.

Sorcerers can also relearn spells at 4th level and every even level thereafter.

Even if you don't know a spell, you can copy a scroll of it to another scroll. Ordinarily there isn't much point in doing this, since the original scroll is erased in the process, but you can do it if you have to.

I'd allow a sorcerer blood magus to copy a scroll onto his skin using the scarification ability, as long as the player understood that this is not the same thing as learning the spell. Once he's used it, he's used it; there's no getting it back unless he gets another scroll.
