| TMX04-20-07, 08:08 PM | Use his animal companion as a mount? |
| metamind04-20-07, 08:11 PM | Yes. |
| Saberus04-20-07, 08:13 PM | If it's a quadruped one size larger, I say it's possible. Just keep track of the weight limits. Quick reference: Halfling, gnome = Riding dog or (maybe) Wolf all others = Horse (Pony for Dwarf) |
| TMX04-20-07, 08:14 PM | Sorted :) *giggles at the DM's face when he informs him that he has a Rhinocerus and mounted combat feats* |
| Drag0nUL04-20-07, 10:49 PM | Can a druid....? Of course it can. They aren't called CoDzilla for nothing.:) To the point: there is no reason whatsoever for not being able to use your animal companion as mount, provided it meets the mount requirements(able and willing to bear a rider). |
| KillerGM04-20-07, 11:16 PM | Just remember to use the tricks presented in the PHB under Handle Animal (pg 75): Train an Animal for a Purpose Rather than teaching an animal individual tricks, you can simply train it for a general purpose. Essentially, an animal’s purpose represents a preselected set of known tricks that fit into a common scheme, such as guarding or heavy labor. The animal must meet all the normal prerequisites for all tricks included in the training package. If the package includes more than three tricks, the animal must have an Intelligence score of 2. An animal can be trained for only one general purpose, though if the creature is capable of learning additional tricks (above and beyond those included in its general purpose), it may do so. Training an animal for a purpose requires fewer checks than teaching individual tricks does, but no less time. Combat Riding (DC 20): An animal trained to bear a rider into combat knows the tricks attack, come, defend, down, guard, and heel. Training an animal for combat riding takes six weeks. You may also “upgrade” an animal trained for riding to one trained for combat riding by spending three weeks and making a successful DC 20 Handle Animal check. The new general purpose and tricks completely replace the animal’s previous purpose and any tricks it once knew. Warhorses and riding dogs are already trained to bear riders into combat, and they don’t require any additional training for this purpose. So, basically you'd give your rhino the tricks associated with being a combat mount. :) |
| Count_Chumleigh04-21-07, 12:32 PM | Use his animal companion as a mount? No. Druids are physically incapable of using their animal companions as mounts, just like 2nd Edition wizards were physically incapable of wearing armor. I played a hafling druid once, and believe you me he did his level best to use his battle-trained riding dog as a mount; he even managed to get a saddle on the thing. But, the second he slung one of his legs into the stirrup, he got catapulted thirty feet into the air and broke his neck on landing. That took us all by surprise, even the DM, who had forgotten that particular rule. Lucky for him the rules automatically enforce themselves to the letter even against the players' wishes otherwise, or he'd be in a really bad spot with the RPGA right now. Cheers, --Count Chumleigh I do hope you can recognize sarcasm, good sir. |
| tharivol26604-21-07, 04:45 PM | i remember one time i was playing an epic game. druid 20 beast master 10 gnome. I was riding on a T-Rex and then since it was the last game of the campaign our DM gave us one weapon from d20 modern just for kicks and let us use it as we wished. needless to say i got the biggest gun i could find and mounted it on my T-rex's head. back on topic though everytime i play a druid i ride my companion whenever im not in wildshape |

| ravenshrike04-21-07, 05:56 PM | Alternatively you can get a bag of tricks, rust or tan, and just pwn face while letting your animal companion kick ass. |
