Ok.
Our party consists of a level 6 cleric, a level 5 human fighter, a level 6 necromancer, a level 3 dwarven fighter, a level 3 human fighter, and me, the level 4 monk.
Awhile back we had a level 6 dwarven rogue and a level 5 magic user, who, well they killed each other. Long story. But when they died being the good friends that we are we stripped everything off their bodies and left them being dead. ( we werent resurrecting them so they could kill each other again, and we agreed not to only resurrect one of them). So the cleric took the boots of springing and striding that the dwarf was wearing (plus 10 speed and +5 to jump checks).
She has not used them. being a healing cleric she stands at the back of the fights, in the obscuring mist until someone yells help, im dying im right outside the mist, then she'll calming walk out and heal them. They;ve decided since the monk already has the top speed of 40 and has great skills like move silently and hide, I can do all the advance scouting. No problem. But I want the boots. Everyone but me has a magical item already ( i didnt need a sword, im a monk) and now she has 2. I am lawful neutral. I know i can tell her i want the boots. but what i dont know is if i can say, ok youre not using them, they will benefit me, i want them, give them to me or i will just take them from you ?
how far can i go exactly without losing my lawfulness, because the DM is just dying to tell me i'm no longer lawful, and therefore i'm no longer a monk. so i dont want to push it, but i don want those boots, and i know she wont just hand them over.
and no, killing her for them is not a problem :)

You must talk as a monk would do. With calm and peaceful voice you approach the cleric and tell him. "Dear fellow, i know the help you give to as in every moment and I respect it, but I think that the marvellous boots you're wearing would be more usefull to all us if they're used by me during combat and do the advance scouting. The next time i will recive an interest item as a parto of a treasure i will give you that items or this boots"
This is perfectly legal (pheraps too legal :D) and if you assure to be eared by all the groups, you can ask the help o the whole group and ask to "VOTE FOR WHO REALLY NEEDS THE BOOTS", this is also perfectly legal

They're just belongings. It's the ties to the material world that weakens the classes who have not the strength of will to truly master themselves, and, through themselves, the world around them. You own your equipment, it does not own you. You have the abilities of your class because you do not need magic.

Umm....just tell the cleric you want them, there is nothing chaotic in "wanting" something, that fact that you have more of a "need" for them anyway also helps.

Doesn't Matter. The Enhancement Bonus to speed from the Boots of Springing and Striding does not stack with the Monk's Enhancement Bonus to speed from his class abilities. They are useless to you.

That's called a VoP monk, not a normal monk.

Next time you get a treasure, get something the cleric wants.

Then trade them for the boots.

Why would you want boots that don't stack with your speed bonus from being a monk? The only time they will be at all useful for you is from levels 4-5 because they add to Jump checks, but after that your inherent speed bonus from being a monk will make them more of a hinderance than a bonus.

Let the cleric keep his boots and just make sure to call dibs on the first ring/amulet/bracers/cape/etc. that the party finds next.

and no, killing her for them is not a problem :)You'd kill someone who regularly healed you and kept you alive in fights over a pair of boots? While that might not impact either the Law/Chaos or Good/Evil axis, it certainly puts you on the Irrationally Selfish end of the scale.
