Can anyone help settle a dispute? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-02-05, 06:47 PM I was wondering if you guys could answer a question for me. In the Races of the Wild racial variations for halfling monks they get the ability Size matters not, how would that work against the Powerful build ability? It says that with the powerful ability they are considered large for determining size for the purposes of special abilities. so i guess me question is would they be considered large against my halfling monk?

It is large size when it's beneficial to the half giant. I would personally say it applies still. Though it really goes to the DM of your game.

In my opinion this ability(powerful build) should have some kind of negitive aspect of it too. It is a powerful ability but there is no draw backs to it. But it says that for dtermining the size of the char for the purposes of being affected by special abilities it is considered large. so.......

07-03-05, 01:11 PM For the Improved Grapple part of the halfing ability, I believe it is fairly clear that those with Powerful build are not affected--the powerful build ability reads "Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts and trip attempts) the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him." That means, if being treated as large would be bad for him, he's treated as medium.

The stunning fist DC part of the halfing's ability, however, is a little more unclear, as it is not plainly spelled out in the half-giant's ability. However, as a DM I would rule in favor of the half-giant for two reasons: 1)They are actually medium creatures and 2) powreful build, as far as the ability reads, is a completely beneficial effect--they get some of the goodies for being large (but not the better attack or reach) but also get none of the disadvantages.
