Ok, some quick fill in info :)
we're in a world that hates the subraces.
so, me dwarf thief, origanal party, a half-elf ranger (treated as bad as any subrace) a human cleric and a human fighter, a human necromancer (NPC).
part way though our long long trek, we encountered a elven wizard.
time goes on, ranger "got us lost" in the forest so she could kill more things, before going to a tower.
ranger got VERY low on hit points, the meek human cleric refused to heal her.
ranger put knife to the clerics throat, heal me.
ranger and cleric got apart from each other, the elf wizard shoots the half elf ranger, in defence of the human. (dwarf can't win this fight, but swears to himself he'll remember this!!)
dropping her to 0 hitpoints, so the ranger pulls out a dagger, and thrusts it into her own heart.
ok, continue on, get in to a dungeon, make a deal with a minor diva, that we won't kill it if it helps us kill some other creatures. it agrees.
it helps us as promised, by now we have another new character 1/2 orc barbarian, who wants to kill it, and ofcourse the elf wizard wants it dead.
i protect it, i take attack of opportunity *no-lethal* to protect him.
grab the diva, throw it in the hall, and bar the door.
freaking wizard casts a web on me (failed the save) (sad for a thief :( )
diva was running away, and he kept shooting it with an long bow.
time goes on, late one night this wizards little raven familar got a crossbow bolt launched through it. during that interparty battle (hehe) both the elf wizard and the dwarf thief die (elf wizard used some amulet that call some ancient drow creature something like a knoun *no un* or *no one* )
so we both hit -14 or so.
cleric refused to contunie in the party with the thief. so they agreed that if one wasn't to be ressurected that neither one would.
so it's only a little level 6 thief. but i like that character.
so i'm buried in the towns graveyard.
i'm pretty sure i'm on the ethereal plane, so i want to find out if it's possible for me to "ghost" until the creature that killed me is dead as well??
so i can haunt the town and stuff.
i haven't mentioned this to the DM yet, wanna make sure it's possible first :)
that would give them the choice of ressurect or solve the ghosts problem right??
thanx for any help in this :)
i can't see anything about this in the players book :)
lol

Such things are solely the DMs domain, players are dead after being killed.

It'd be up to the DM.

And as a Ghost, understand you don't just go around spooking people for a joke. Typically, your ghost-life revolves around your old life (probably at the moments before death). You wouldn't go having a good time with your friends, unless that had something to do with your death. And in any case, you would probably want to stick around that place, recreating the situation infinitely.

If you were murdered, perhaps you would seek out the murderer, but you would want to do that so much that you wouldn't just blow it off and say "eh, I'll enjoy this until he gets killed, then I'll be set to peace". So... consider if you're a ghost, you're likely going to be extremely 1 dimensional.

By the way, a word of advice...: kill the Necromancer NPC before he betrays you all/ gains great power and tries to use you. ;)

if you want to be a ghost, see if your DM will allow ghostwalk. It has all the rules for playing a ghost effectively.

I have a new character.
i was thinking of making the ghost a npc.
unless they ressurect him, then he'd be my character again.
i've tried to get him ressurected, but the cleric won't allow it.
so i thought maybe as a npc haunting the town wanting his murderer dead that maybe they might resserect him,
or atleast track down the creature thing that killed him and kill it :)

See if you can borrow a copy of Ghostwalk (or else just flip through it at a bookstore) - it's got a bunch of rules regarding straight up NPC ghosts that haunt locations versus having a player run a ghost that travels with the party on adventures, etc.

I'm in the process of making a 24th level Sorcerer/Frost Mage/Eidoloncer as part of a "almost time for our DM to graduate, let's go nuts and have fun with powergamed characters" short adventure - and while being a ghost does get you some cool stuff, it has a few distinct disadvantages (like if I get killed and resurrected, I'm alive - not a ghost anymore).
