Sir_Jack_Sparrow 03-14-04, 06:44 PM	Whats the definition on abilities that can be activated at will. My character just got armor of the celestial batallion, the description says it allows me to fly at will as per the spell fly. my DM is now saying that this is a standard action, and lasts 10 rounds. how long does it last? and is it a standard action to activate or a free action?
Greenintern 03-14-04, 06:48 PM	"At will" means free action, I believe. "As per" means, works exactly like the spell fly once it has been activated.

As for the duration, it's as long as it would be if you got it cast on you from someone with a caster level of the caster level of the item.
Obormot 03-14-04, 06:56 PM	"At will" does not, in fact, mean free action. What "at will" means is that there is no limitation on the number of times the item can be used in any given day. Thus, your DM is partially. It takes a standard action to activate, but there's no reason it should last 10 rounds - fly lasts one minute per caster level, and the spell effect from the item is no different (unless otherwise specified). If the item has a CL of 10, the effect lasts 10 minutes. After such time, you're free to expend another standard action to give yourself another 10 minutes (or however many minutes) of flight.
