| ShadeParadox11-10-06, 01:56 PM | Can you wait choosing a stance, maneuver or feat for a later level? This is mostly because I'm building a character and trying to decide upon a stance, but.. well its a warblade, and my second stance becomes available when I only have access to 1st and 2nd level martial powers.. and there are no 2nd level stances available to warblades. I'd like to wait and take a 3rd level stance instead, but.. I dunno if I can. I think at least with feats my friends lean towards it has to be taken immediately (this was long ago, after I didn't take a feat for over two levels, then I find out :P ). So, can I take Black Pearl of Doubt? or do I have to take some stinky first level stance? |
| chava11-10-06, 01:59 PM | first level stance, it was done intentionally unless you multiclass - so that you can get your initiator level higher |
| Frugal11-10-06, 03:07 PM | Nope, you have to take them as they're granted. Otherwise, you could "hold" your lower level feats and take them at a higher level when you meet specific prerequisites (like BAB). |
| Salla11-10-06, 08:47 PM | By the RAW, no. I allow it via houserule, because, well, I can't see why not. :) |

Bolstering Voice is an excellent second choice, since there'll be plenty of times later on when you really, really don't want your party members to fail a Will save. (And if you combine it with the White Raven Defense feat, which you can take as a bonus feat, it becomes a pretty nice AC buffing stance too.) Stonefoot Stance is a useful pick-up because the +2 Strength check benefit can enhance a number of other things, even if you aren't fighting something large enough to get the AC benefit out of. There're plenty of combat situations which rely on opposed Strength checks, certainly. Hunter's Sense will require you to take another Tiger Claw maneuver first, but you can swap out that maneuver later if you don't want to keep it, and Scent is a *really* useful ability to have, especially for the sake of scouting out an area and finding hidden/invisible opponents. Stance of Clarity may not be too hot in an average battle, but if you ever get into a one-on-one duel (or you're facing a single dangerous opponent with some not-so-dangerous fodder supporting it) then it becomes quite handy. Punishing Stance doesn't quite seem to cut it in normal battles, unless the opponent is low damage/high defense, but it's helpful for dealing with things which aren't a physical threat but do need to be brought down quickly (enemy arcane caster) or which aren't a threat but are hard to damage (bashing objects with significant hardness). |
