| Cirein Amakiir05-29-05, 02:56 PM | I have been allowed to play a half celestial bard...and I do enjoy the roleplaying opportunities and I am a great support character. However, I have been allowed to survive an encounter that was really my fault...however "un-fluffy" it was. I want to continue playing him, but we are just beginning the forge of fury...and from what I hear its pretty rough. I need advice on keeping myself around til' level 6 and still being of use to the group. So far.... I can sing. I am good with a bow (22 dex) I can cast bless and Pro. evil Looks like support from here til 6, but how do I go about surviving until then? My hp will remain 14 for a looooong time. Thanks in advance. |
| Shaken, not Stunned05-29-05, 04:59 PM | That's what you get with a high LA. IMC I let players play what ever they can legally play, and they have learned that they shouldn't take high LA races because they will invariably die. I would suggest you get a cross bow and experience first hand the advantages of lying prone in a fire-fight. Preferablly with 9/10 cover (total +13 to ac). Also, exploit your advantages. You already mentioned your buffs. Don't forget your flight and the advantages elevation cna have in a ranged fight. HP doesn't matter if you don't get hit. |
| Mirikon05-29-05, 07:50 PM | Simple answer is not to get hit. Don't go striding into melee. Fly and shoot and sing. Be a coward, and stay behind cover. Run like hell when things start getting ugly. Invest heavily in items that boost AC, or make you otherwise unhittable, such as bracers of armor and a ring of Invisibility or a ring of Blinking. |
| Rabid Dire Wolverine05-30-05, 07:31 PM | My only advice is to cast pro from evil whenever you think you'll be forced to fight close-ranged against evil, and the other times, stay faaaar away from opponents and snipe them with your high dex. My friend says... you should probably jus' give him a protein shake or somethin' cus' tha' would really toughen him up a wee bit. trust me, i'm a non-pro linebacker. when i was 12, i was a wimpy little kid, but then when i took some "protein"() shakes i became the muscular wimp that i am today. true story. not really. ... He's creepy. |

It's okay to be knocked unconcious, as long as someone's going to care enough about you to run over and heal you. You might consider looking toward items that can heal you without your consent, but at the moment the only one I can think of is an intelligent item with cure moderate wounds. |
| The_Spleen-Splitter05-31-05, 01:16 AM | I recommend these feats: far shot, precise shot, rapid shot, many shot, anything that improves your shooting, toughness, maybe weapon finesse for if you absolutely need to melee, and anything that improves your AC/HP. Also, in Complete Arcane there is a feat that gives you a new bardic music abiltiy, I think it's called Ironskin Chant. You get the picture. I also agree that you should pump as much resources into not getting hit at all as you can. |
| Invarus05-31-05, 01:28 AM | I was under the impression that Bless and Bard Song didn't stack, though I'm not sure if you were implying that they did. To be brutally honest, I question your stated effectiveness as a support character, especially because you lose a huge amount of effectiveness from your LA, as a class with highly level dependent abilities, such as spellcasting. Take heart though, good sir; your survival hinges entirely on your DM, because he knows that your life lies entirely in his hands. Either he explicitly avoids trying to kill you, and you don't die, or he does anything else, and you die. |
| nephtis05-31-05, 06:47 AM | I was under the impression that Bless and Bard Song didn't stack, though I'm not sure if you were implying that they did. Well, they don't. Both give the same kind of bonus: moral... |
