| Spellskin10-24-06, 04:05 PM | I have a question wich is burning in my skull! Recently the Complete Mage came out and with it the Master Specialist prestige class. Naturally it focusses on specialist wizards and, in my opinion, very well at that. But, in comes the Changeling! In Races of Ebberon the Changeling gets substitution levels for the Wizard. The first one makes the Changeling into a dual-specialist. She is a transmuter and an illusionist. So how do these two work together? Does the changeling need both Spell Focus (Transmutation) and (Illusion)? what about the benefits? Will she get both Greater Spell Foci? What about the School Esoterica? ARGH! Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated! Thank you :) |

While a Changeling has the Dual-Specialist trait, the Master Specialist is designed to represent extreme focus in one school of magic. However, some modification could also happen pretty easily. You might house-rule that a Changeling who meets the pre-requisites to enter the class as both a transmuter and an illusionist can do so, and gains the benefits of both, but at a cost of reduced spellcasting progression. (I would recommend losing 1st, 5th, and 10th level spells, but this is off the top of my head, w/o any books in front of me.) |

For Master Specialist, Spell Focus in _any_ of your specialized schools will qualify. however, because the School Esoterica abilities state, 'You gain an ability from those below,' you would only gain one at a time, not one for each of your specialized schools. |
