| jecht11-22-06, 03:14 PM | I want to be non-magic character for a solo campaign my brother is running. I thought straight fighter but then I started reading all the anti-fighter threads and that gave me second thoughts. By no means do I want to have the strongest character build ever, I just want to keep up with the wizards and clerics. What I want to roleplay is a semi-reckless strong mercenary type at first and then I'll just let my character evolve. I dont want to be an archer by any means and i prefer melee over stealth but skills are welcome! Im starting at level 1 but please show the build to 20. Thanks for your help and please note that this is not the first place i went, if he(my brother) let me, it would take a year to make my character and I was hoping one of you could settle it once and for all. I have the complete series please little or no magic NO psionics thanks for your help |

You will find that every single anti-fighter thread is based around the idea that a Cleric with Divine Metamagic and half a dozen rounds of preparation time can out fight a fighter, or that a Druid in Wildshape with a pile of buffs and Wild armour can out fight a fighter. In a real game, these arguments evapourate. Alternatively, the Swashbuckler looks like a very fun class to play (I have not played one yet) - again, munchkins call it a three-level class, but we're in it for fun, not pwning n00bs. Lastly, the Knight in the PHB II. I have been in love with that class since I first saw it. |

He can make several prestige classes that require a buttload of feats without trouble, and often before other classes. Not to mention Weapon Specialization. +2 on weapon damage rolls increases the average weapon damage of a 1d8 weapon to that of a 1d12 weapon. |
| Exileman11-22-06, 04:20 PM | One option I'm thoroughly looking into is a fighter build. Work towards kensai, but at 3rd take either Item Familiar (if your DM allows Unearthed arcana variants that is) or Ancestral Relic from Exaulted deads. The basis of the class would be that you are really good with one weapon and that weapon has more special abilities than you can shake a holy avenger at. I'd say either human or a high strength race. For Kensai, you need Combat Expertise and Weapon Focus, some skill ranks, and a +5 BAB. Since that last part clinches that you take the class at 6, I suggest taking Fighter to get there. 1st level, Weapon Focus. If you're a human, take a feat that relates to your weapon if you can, IE if you have a good disarming weapon, head towards improved disarm. You get the idea. At lvl 2, combat expertise. With only a +2 bab, this might not seem attractive, but at low levels bumping your ac by 2 is nice. 3rd, one of the 2 i mentioned earlier. 4th, something only a fighter can get, weapon specialization. 5th i suggest whining that you don't get a feat :D. 6th, Kensai and as a feat try and take the other of the first 2 feats I mentioned, otherwise I'd go improved toughness. Now, Kensai lets you sacrifice Xp to give your sword +1 bonus's or equivalent. Ancestral Relic lets you spend gold or valuable items to improve the value of your swords magic. Item familiar gives you a 10% bonus to xp and eventually gives your weapon special abilities and makes it intelligient. Since caster level isn't a problem, you can beef your weapon to well above the allowed +10 in no time flat. After that, use your best judgement. |
| Astigrarndorer11-22-06, 04:37 PM | You wanted a build to 20th level. Here's a decent build off the top of my head. Do you have Races of the Wild? There's a PrC that's awesome. Here's the breakdown: 1:Rogue 2:Rogue 3:Fighter 4:Rogue 5:Rogue 6:Fighter 7:Ranger 8:Ranger 9:Ranger 10:Ranger 11:Ranger 12:Fighter 13-18: Wild Runner (Races of Wild, must be elf or 1/2 elf, Recommend Wood Elf) 19:Ranger 20:Ranger Not too many spells an Animal Companion and great fighting ability good skill array. |
| BigRobC10111-22-06, 06:44 PM | if youve got races of the wild and heros of battle a good build is ranger 4, fighter1, dread commando 5, champion of coreal leathorrl (sp?) you need to be an elf (recoomend wood elf) you end up if you wear mirthal full plate as one of the best scouts in the game, and your a full on fighter for when you to get spotted. |
