Character Creation Gone Wrong [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-29-05, 05:50 PM I just created a new character after my old one "died" (long confusing story lol). The old one was a cleric and, not wanting to make an identical character, I created a bard. (By the way, my characters are always spellcasters.) Now, I've played that 11th level bard for a session or two, and now I've descovered I made a horrible choice :weep: . I want to make a new character, but I don't want to start at 7th level (our original level) when the rest of the party is level 15 or so. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, did your DM let you switch?

01-29-05, 05:58 PM Well as a DM speaking I would probably let you do it. Because it's all about having fun, so if someone isn't having fun I would allow to switch unless it's some sort of habit. :D

And I would allow you to make a new character at one level below the lowest level of the party. Otherwise it's rather difficult playing as a level 7 charchter when the rest of the party is around 15.

01-29-05, 07:58 PM At our group everybody starts at level 1 (even new chars, if the rest of the party is level 10 or so..). but you can always add a template or pick a class with LA to keep up with your group.

in our group you would start at level 7 [the starter-level (+LA if you wish, if your party is all lev. 15 max. LA +8)]. But it only depends on your DM

01-29-05, 09:56 PM What the hell is it with DM and these horrible level descrepencies?!? Geez...it's not 2ed where you gained 10 level in 2 fights, it takes several fights just to reach level 2...assuming they are fighting things that will even GIVE you exp since 8+ level = no exp.

Anyways, why is your new character 4 levels below the party average? It's just gonna die anyways at this rate...then yea you get your level 7 character and you can watch that one die then a level 3 then a level -1 commoner child...won't that be fun.
