| RobTzu07-29-07, 01:12 AM | Here are some stats on a character for me to roll up. I have a few ideas in my head but do not want to taint the jury pool. What would you guys do with these stats? Start him at 5, but what will he look like at 20? Ok, Here are the guidelines. We roll character straight down the list, then roll randomly for race. Starting level is 5. Standard Wealth. So no swapping abilities or race. Books: PHB 1, DMG 1, Complete: Divine, Adventurer, Arcane, Warrior, Player's Guide to Faerun (no other FR though). Only get one PrC. Stats: ( and you get one from 4th to place where you see fit) Strength: 15 Dex: 20 Con: 6 Wis 12 Int: 13 Cha: 14 Race: Elf Ouch, I rolled an 8 con then got Elf as race. Sometimes the die have a sense of humor. Edit: 3 Other PC's (4 total) We do not learn what others are In game or out until first session. |
| Von_Harbringer07-29-07, 01:32 AM | I would say bard, ranger (bow path), or rogue; maybe warmage. But for sure put stat bumps into constitution. Not sure about prestige classes, I might say Arcane Archer. |
| beenyboboo07-29-07, 01:38 AM | anyting that uses range .... archer and fighter mixed |
| beenyboboo07-29-07, 01:45 AM | go figher in thier some where the d10 will help alot |
| Callix07-29-07, 08:21 AM | Ranger/Shadowdancer? Get HiPS ASAP, then snipe away. That can help you negate the Con penalty by not being in the open. Trouble is the Perform (Dance) ranks... maybe Rogue works better... Build Stub: Ranger 3/Rogue 3/Shadowdancer 2/go on from here Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Mobility, go from here Skills: Max Hide/Move Silently, get at least 5 ranks in Perform (Dance) in the Rogue levels. Upsides: Improved Evasion and Hide in Plain Sight at ECL 8, coupled with 2d6 sneak attack, make you a powerful sniper. Boost your Hide modifier like anything, and watch as the dragon gets stuck full of your arrows... without even seeing you. Ah, the irony... Downsides: Mediocre BAB, atrocious hit points and a bad Fort save. First 3 feats tied down, not much use. Development: Add 3 Ranger levels to get Manyshot and Entangle for more sneak-attacking goodness. Add rogue for more damage. Even 1 more rogue level adds Improved Uncanny Dodge. Add Shadowdancer for Shadow Jump, Summon Shadow and more Rogue defensive abilities (Defensive Roll and Slippery mind are both lifesavers). Don't take the full Shadowdancer, you need more Sneak attack damage. Up to you, of course. Hope this helps. |
| RobTzu07-29-07, 03:48 PM | Yeah, Range either mundane or magic is the way to go. That Charisma score wants me to do something with it, but I think that is dangerous, as then I get to play with a d4 or d6 for HD. I was thinking this: Ranger 4/1. Then Order of the Bow Initiate, then last 5 pick up ranger again. So feats would be: 1st: PBS 2nd Rapid Shot (from Ranger) 3rd Precise shot 5th Weapon Focus: Longbow (Fighter Bonus) For the Con just work on getting an amulet of health, and rely on hide/MS/ staying out of melee to get me through. |
| Callix07-30-07, 04:33 AM | RobTzu: You run the risk of XP penalties for most of the build's life. Mine at least was 3/3, and had prospects for both. Still, important thing to check your DM's opinion of multiclassing (he already sounds like he doesn't like it much). Also, you can drop the Ranger levels entirely from my build and make it rogue/shadowdancer for more skill points and damage at the cost of a little BAB. Again, up to you. You might even try a Scout, but this delays HiPS a lot, and leavees you in the open. I liked having all the important defences by level 8... Oh, and Rogue6/Shadowdancer2 has Improved Uncanny Dodge too, not that you should be using it. Although... Combat Reflexes and Opportunist... No. 6 Con. Not a melee character. Definitely not a melee character. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs07-30-07, 09:12 AM | You could try a straight barbarian (pity you don't have PHB2, with Con like that you could have Berserker Strength active like all the time. ). Rage would bring your Con up a bit when you need it (ie when anything that doesn't like you is within a mile), and the fast movement would help you keep your distance. But what's a barbarian going to do at a distance? With Dex like that, throw spears - you even get your Str bonus on damage for it being hurled weaponry. Your money goes into the best armor and buckler (buckler because spears are two-handed weapons) you can get your hands on - your ability scores and class features will take care of damage output with mundane spears just fine. Take Improved Toughness at 1st level, Point Blank Shot at 3rd, when 6th level comes around pick up Quick Draw so you can full attack. Alternately, if you think you can make do with less hp, go Point Blank 1st level, Far Shot at 3rd, Quick Draw at 6th. Either way the feat progression afterward should be fairly obvious. |

Well, an elven barbarian could be using a Mighty Composite Longbow. However, the Rage wouldn't last very long. Is there such a feat like Extend Rage? |

Is there such a feat like Extend Rage? :confused:The Mighty Composite Longbow is another option, yes. I don't like them as much because if you key it to your strength during a rage, you take an attack penalty when not raging, and if you key it to your normal strength, you don't get as much out of it during a rage as you could have. There is an Extend Rage feat, in Complete Warrior and I think one or two other books. Requires you have a rage or frenzy ability, benefit increases your rage or frenzy duration by 5 rounds, can be taken multiple times to stack duration increases, will cause the other players to beat you over the head with a folding chair if you take it for a frenzied berserker. :D |
| spyderfreek07-30-07, 04:26 PM | Can you pick a special sub race of elf? Check out my sig: Fighter 6/Battle Sorc1/ Arcane Archer 9 then back to sorc or Fighter. I got my hands on a +1 holy bow and greater bracers of archery. 1d8+7+2d6 vs evil x4 attacks. You can drop OotBI and just be sure to stay out of combat. Take all the ranged feats you can and be sure to get stuff like defensive archery since you can only take one PrC. |
