07-29-06, 08:18 PM OK im sorta new to DnD and wanted to know something, wich is the best character sheet to use, i got this one that my friend told me to get he said it was the newest one but really, i dont like it theres no place to put your age and the same problem with spells so wich one do most of you use?

07-29-06, 08:32 PM Your post isn't very clear, but I assume the character sheet your friend gave you is the 4-page one available on this website. While it doesn't have a space for age, it does have a lot of stuff the old character sheets didn't have, like spaces for magic items and animal companions. If your really can't stand that one, the standard character sheet is available here. (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/PHB_v35_charsheet.zip)
Just download and print it.

P.S.
Try not to use wierd fonts or colors for your posts, because it's hard to read and makes people think you're noobish.

07-29-06, 08:38 PM Personaly, only you can make the perfect character sheet for yourself. If you don't like writing them all out by hand, you can just make one and photocopy/scan it for future use. I do this regularly, and always have a sheet that suits me desires.

I have also heard that there are a few programs out there that let you format your own all purpose pages, and these can easily be used to create character sheets. I don't know the names of any, but someone else might know of one.

07-29-06, 09:15 PM In my experience, the only people who use the Wizards sheets are those who have either 1) paid for them (Deluxe sheets, for instance) or 2) don't know that other sheets exist.

The best sheets in my experience are:

1) Mad Irishman's (http://www.unc.edu/~murphy/mad_irishman/). HANDS DOWN the best. Not only is it concise and logically laid-out, but the newest sheets can be customized for just about any variant ruleset through layer support.
2) Darkside Productions (http://www.ssa-x2.com). This is a kickass autocalc sheet that has, easily, the best mechanics for vancian (slot-based) spellcasting, particularly for preparation mages. It needs improvement in some areas (like two-weapon combat) and I hate Vancian magic, so it's in number 2 on this.
3) Ema's Sheets (http://www.emass-web.com/). Comprehensive and easy to use. My only problem is a small forest is levelled to print a single sheet, although the dynamic sheets are apparently better (haven't used them myself; MI's are too good).
4) Do-It-Yourself. Seriously.

07-29-06, 10:44 PM i use wizard sheets because i prefer them. i use the free 4 page printout.

for me the details like age, height, skin tone, and all of that don't need to be marked on a character sheet. i don't need to right down my character's age because 1) it's typically irrelevant and 2) it's something i already know about him/her that i'm unlikely to forget.

if i feel a need for an in-depth character description i'll type one up or make a character portrait to the best of my ability. and for spells i've found a seperate sheet of simple college-rule paper is by far the best. don't feel limited to your character sheet. leave stats that won't change but every level on your sheet, but just use paper for things like inventory items, spells, and notes.

I combo this... I either use a blank sheet of paper for my spell list or use ema's dynamic sheets for spell lists.

But the actual sheet itself (If not using my laptop, using my excel-autocalculating everything sheet that I made) I made one that has everything well organized in intuative place that is both newbie friendly and experienced player friendly. It even has places for resistances, and current status effects so you don't forget that you got +1 from prayer or bless or something.

Or you know... you could just write everything down on a peice of blank paper - i've been known to do this in the past.
