I'm currently (almost) playing a 10th level mage, and I find it difficult to manage all the papers related to his statistics, objects, spells, friends and foes, ambitions, possessions, active spell effects, etc...

How do you manage to run a wizard character smoothly?

Of course smoe organization helps, but i find mine is not enough.
Any suggestions? :O

Head on over to either The Mad Irishman's (http://www.mad-irishman.net) or Darkside Productions (http://www.ssa-x2.com) and check out their sheets. Both have exceptional methods of handling spells. The former's the better sheet, but the latter has the better spellbook/spells prepared system.

Whenever I play a wizard, I make up a sheet detailing his normal, non-buffed stats. Then when I cast spells and things change, I write the changes on an index card or notepad or the like, rather than changing my character sheet. I note what spells/effects are up, and what they change. That way, if one or more spells get dispelled or durations run out, I can easily backtrack my stats to what they should be.

Also, it makes it easier to show the GM when things stack up in a ridiculous manner and he says "Wait, how did you get that number?"

Thanks, I'll take a look at those links.

Do you have any personal method to keep track of png or other kind of notes?

I just make up my own excel spreedsheets that calculate the damage, range, duration, etc. for me as well as put in my own notes about the spells.

This way the layout is exactly what I want, so it runs a lot faster for me.

I use a laptop and Microsoft Word for each of my characters. Ever detailed is typed out. If I have a spell or abilitity in my repetoir I type its effect word for word from the manual then calculate how much I'll be adding to my damage to add and if anything needs to be added to the die roll.

It makes for some really long files to scroll through... But that's what "Ctrl F" is for isn't it? lol

I thought about using a laptop too, but my wallet refused to help me :(

Do you think spell sheets are handy? I never used them because there are often details of a spell which they lack, yet it could make common use of spells quicker...

Honestly, I'd say make your own. They will end up saving you a LOT of game time. having to look up spells every single time takes an easy 5 minutes per shot. And 30 minutes saved is 30 minutes played.

I always use this character sheet, it doesn't look amazing at first but it's in Excel and can be customized to suit each character. None of the regular sheets have everything you want.

When I once ran a wizard, I listed his spellbooks twice -once in condensed format, just the names of spells by level, to give to the DM so he would know what I could memorize. Then I made a set of sheets with my spells in brief - each line was a different spell (By level, then alphabetically within each level) with the critical numbers (Cast time, range, components, duration, etc)
I ahd a short list of typically memorized spells (again by level, but within a level was short enough that I didn't organise further), and a blank page for changes - I would make a change during memorization, and hand it to the DM to initial just to save confusion over when a spell was chosen ("Wait it seems awfully convenient that you have that spell RIGHT NOW")

You could check if here (http://www.theothergamecompany.com/stuff-cards.htm) is anything that helps you to keep stuff in order.
