I figured I'd try to set up a compendium of character concepts you have lying around and love, but for one reason or another you just can't seem to get into a game. Worst comes to worst, you'll inspire someone else who does have the opportunity. I'll start.

[insert name here]: This one would work well in a d20 modern campaign that uses psionics or an Eberron campaign. Either way, the character is a 10th level warmind. In version one, the character is Japanese and either a survivor of Hiroshima/Nagasaki, or else "remembers" a past life that witnessed said event. In version two, the character is a survivor of the Mourning. Either way, the neat little RP hook lies in the Chain of Overwhelming Force class feature. Explain that when using this ability, the character holds the image of the sheer destructive power of the atomic bomb or the Mourning, and channels this image into the attack. Nothing like saying you psionically infuse the power of a nuke into your attack.

Mortis Ex Machina: "Morty," a warforged warblade of the not-so-subtle assassin style. Like the original Terminator.

Thelalis: A Divine Mind who claims his psionic power arises not from divine power, but by augmenting his own psionic power with the minds of those of similar faith. Put this way, it's not just Divine Psionics. Might be nice as a Silver Flamer.

"Rocky": an awakened golem bard (or dragon shaman). Originally it was a drakestone golem. Basically, he's one of several ancient draconic heroes. Most chose to be bound in the making of magical weapons for a second time of need. He was instead bound in the animation of the golem, to act as the guardian. Times change, and he's sick of waiting. It's in his hands now.

I have this thing about Bards ...
I like the minor spell casting, the high feats, and the battle ability. But singing? ... no ...

I would like to play bard variant that is a mute. (Or at least let's other think he's a mute) Kind of a serious Harpo Marx character. Who then casts spells through drawings. Glyphs, or the drawings are what realize the spells.

I also woud like to play (and I have him all rolled up) some BIG, bad, mean looking, scars, tatoos, black armor ... fighter/barbarian ... who is actually a total gentleman, and a total skill monkey. Very nice, well educated ...

I would also love to play a mount. I would play a feral Gungan that the halfing rides.

cool ...

One character I would love to play is called methuselah (sp?). He is an awakened human effigy duskblade. He was created by house cannith has an elite infiltration unit and overall powerfull.

He escaped eventually and has begun to question his very existance. He knows he will basically live forever, but he is not truly alive. He doesnt have a soul in a real sence, just a font of magic, and he envys and pities warforged in many respects. He looks more real, but in reality they are "alive" and he is not. He is wandering the world to find meaning to his existance.

I explained his duskblade powers as a fusion of the mechanical nature and the magical power bestowed apon him. As he levels his body upgrades itself. I ruled for myself that he would have to make a will save if he walks in an antimagic field or is shot with a mordenkain's disjunction. Granted he will have decent will from his class and will obviously have high wisdom.

One concept I've had rolling around in my mind is that of the disgrunteled(sp?) town guard. Sick of being pushed around by adventurers, he decides to go adventureing to gain the exp to push back. He would fight only with club and crossbow, as a rouge/fighter multi-class.

(yes, based on vimes)

One I'm keeping as a backup character is pretty cool.

Buer: An early model warforged Buer was made as an experiment. He's psionic, but that's not what truly sets him apart. Buer went AWOL after learning his purpose, he ran from the forges and disguised himself as other races. Buer despises fighting and despite being secretive is actually very playful and loves living life. His attitude to other warforged is typically pity, most don't know howto live their lives properly. Buer is going to make the most of his.

i've been kicking around this idea of a polyglotal fighter. basically a fighter who puts wevery availible skill point into learning langauges, and the just shows off how "educated" he is.

I've accumulated far too many over the years. Here's my list at the moment.

A completely pacifistic monk who only practices martial arts as a way to bring him closer to his deity. He'll refuse to fight back under any circumstances, even if it means him dying. The kicker is, he's evil, worships a god of pain and believes that by ending the lives of others you cut short their time of suffering in this world.

A paladin of freedom (and borderline terrorist) who instigates a revolution to free the people, blind to the sheer amount of death and suffering this causes them.

Someone charming and charismatic with an abberation bloodline (custom made from the races variants) who slowly gains the abberation feats from lords of madness and loses charisma in favour of physical stats as they degenerate into a monster.

An awakened half fey mule, with deep psychological problems with the fact mules are sterile.

An evil champion (one of Rich Burlew's creations to be found on the order of the stick website)

Non-magical class that does not talk but communicates through sounds to convey emotions. Also takes every language he can and will take polyglot when he's high enough. Only talks when no one else knows what he's talking about or when necessary.

Always wanted to play a really bureaucratic gnome, bit obsessive, and difficult to shut up, frequently spouting the first thing that pops into his head.
He would have to be really knowledgeable about the area the party is working in, otherwise there'd be no point in keeping him around.
Total coward who only fights when cornered, but when he does he goes bananas! Total bloodlust!

Two more concepts:

1) A monk/initiate of the draconic mysteries or dragon descendent trained in the school of Korosagra (remember him? 2006 Creature Competition finalist - just in case this thread is still being viewed in times more distant).

2) For a campaign using action points: a character who doesn't look more awesome using action points. Instead, using action points reflects lucky accidents. Such as making a charge attack, stumbling, and falling forward into the attack. Puts more force behind the attack, and it places him a few split seconds ahead of what the enemy expected. It's how I plan to RP Omni, the warlock gish (if I ever get into a d20 modern "superheroes" campaign).

1) I've always wanted to play a gigantic barbarian type, 8'2 700+ lbs, who was raised by Halflings and therefore has their personality and an affinity for the smaller races. Woe to those who 'punt the gnome' or 'toss the Halfling down the hallway' because they are small. I just love the image of a gigantic barbarian getting angry and tossing the fighter down the hallway for doing the same to his Halfling friend.

(as it stands now though this character has been changed into a Catfolk bard!)

2) A Half Dragon. The kicker? a half CHAOS dragon. A person who doesn't quite get what kind of dragon his father was so he tries to act as what he thinks he was depending on what breath weapon he uses. Only problem is a chaos dragons' breath weapons are random. So if he breaths lightning he immediately thinks he is part blue and suddenly is very cold and hates brass dragons. Or if he breathes fire, he suddenly thinks he is a red (or gold) and tries to act really beefy and large or really wise. The possibilities are endless!

3) The Knight Errant. This character was raised to be a paladin, but for various reasons having to do with the inability to perform divine magic he simply can't be one. So he basically becomes a fighter that dreams of being a paladin and turns out to be a better paladin them most paladins. Think Man of La Mancha, only not crazy. (That’s for another character!)

4) The Drow who was raised among the in-fighting of the houses to be the ultimate evil, however, this simply means he is evil by the definitions of the OTHER drow. And since drow are evil, then being GOOD to them would the most evil thing you could do. SO this drow was raised to believe that doing good was the most evil thing any drow could do. Thus roaming out into the world to do the worst evil acts imaginable finds him having a tea party with little girls and cackling madly about how evil he is, then passing the imaginary butter to the teddy bear on his left. Or perhaps helping a man with a heavy load and then upon reaching their destination the man thanks him and again he cackles wildly gloating over the great evil he has done. I think this character would be aligned Chaotic Misguided.

Changeling Beguiler/Chameleon in Ebberon. I REALLY want to play this. Being any, and every, one...ever.
