| Denihilist01-04-07, 09:20 PM | My buddies and I were playing a new campaign last weekend (everyone had just hit level two), and we sought out (against the dm's advice) a dragon. However, before we left town, using money from a mine we had a mission in and found it still had wealth (according to Quintessential Dwarf), we both the cursed item “Dust of Sneezing and Chocking” Needless to say, one application of that to the dragon, and two rounds later our scythe wielding fighter chopped the Juvenile dragon’s (CR10) head off, and we drug the carcass back to town with the DM cursing us all the way. What cheap shots, crazy tactics, and/or loopholes have you exploited to do amazing/cool stuff? |
| Magetastic01-04-07, 11:18 PM | Mirror of Opposition Never lost a fight after level 15 ever again. No save or SR, forces the opponent to fight himself, usable 4 times per day, and costs only 46,000 gold and 3840 XP. This item is now banned from PC use, it still exists but it has a tendency to explode if used by a PC ever again. |
| UAMDB01-04-07, 11:26 PM | 3.0 Horn of Blasting Of they fail their save they would be stun for so many rounds. If they pass they were stunned for 1 round. We only need one round to kill most things. |
| Lakaniss01-04-07, 11:48 PM | At the beginning of one of our session campaign (6 month sessions), we got hired to kill a kobold camp. You would be surprise how much Oil you can buy whit your starting gold... at least 100 pint of oil....add in some bargain and trading your useless starting equipment and you can get at least 300 pint... for 1500 ft square of fire devastation... plenty of fun we had... sadly oil only does 1d3 fire dmg for 2 round... sadly kobold has 2 hp... |
| robertliguori01-05-07, 12:05 AM | Thankfully, this was never actually tried, but a level 1 Binder (with improved binding) and a warlock with Summon Swarm worked out a way to keep a bat swarm chasing Malphas's raven indefinitely, meaning they could stay an hour's flight away from their enemies and repeatedly drop swarms on them until the enemy ran out of area-of-effect damage effects, torches, and just ran away rather than stay where the damn bat swarms kept coming. Undead are also generally regarded as a cheap tactic. Get a beefy enough one and a Dread Necromancer, and you don't need to worry about traps ever again. "Zombie, open the door." "Uuuh." *thud* *thud* *krunch* "Zombie, step on every flagstone in that room." "Uuuh. Uuuh. Uuuu-" *thud* "Well, there's a pit trap there. Zombie, if you're still alive, make some noise." "...uuuh." "I think that's zombie for 'Ow'. Get the grappling hook and we'll haul him out. Zombie! Embed this grappling hook into your rib cage, and hold onto the rope!" |

| Lakaniss01-05-07, 12:27 AM | Actually we used it on several occasions in the corridors, we had to lure them and still got to fight some kobold captains who didnt died from fire. It wasnt easy has : i put all my oil on the ground and wait all the kobolds gather at the exit of theyr base. Still, we managed to kill a very large number of kobold ( around 80 ) using that method. |
| illyrus01-05-07, 11:32 AM | This was a 3.0 campaign: We approached the evil lord's mansion without a rogue. Our DM had made every door, window, etc trapped as well as the ground within 5 feet of it. The conversation went something like this: Player1: Wow, that trap almost killed me. DM: That's what you get for not having a rogue in your party. Player2: We do have one, not our fault the player was sick, perhaps we could NPC him here to disable the traps? DM: No, deal with it yourselves. Me: Hrm, ok, oh yeah... Earlier in the campaign my wizard had purchased some large lead blocks and shrunk them into a cloth like objects. We flattened one of them out and placed it underneath the door, then took cover 200 feet away behind a wall and shouted the command word. The force buckled the wall and collapsed half the mansion. We sifted thru the rubble, got what we wanted, and left. After that event we started carrying tiny shrunk strips of small lead blocks to blow out locks and bypass traps. Later in that same campaign thieves stole all of our gear while we slept in an inn. I asked if they had taken the large wooden boxes. DM replied with a yes and I explained to him that today was the day the shrink item spell had to be refreshed around noon. At noon, the thieves' hideout came crumbling down on them and we followed the crashing sound to recover our gear and loot the now dead thieves. 3.5 campaign: Was playing a druid that was currently pretending to be an owl and spying on a group of bandits that were high up in the mountains. Earlier that day they pretended to be villagers and had tried to kill us and failed. Now they were talking about murdering us in the early morning in our sleep. They setup watch and 2 of them(including the leader) went to sleep in their sleeping bags. My druid summoned a hippogriff and had it grab hold of sleeping bandit leader and fly with him off the cliff. Five hundred foot fall > bandit leader. |
| lint trap01-05-07, 02:20 PM | I had an 8th level Fighter that was killed by two 1st level punks. In one round. And one was an NPC class. The 1st level Cleric cast "Heartache" (from BoVD). I failed my Will save, and a 1st level Warrior took a 5 ft. step and coup de graced me. The shame... |

| DarkRhystar01-05-07, 07:13 PM | More proof that fighters suck:D Seems to me that says more about the BoVD than Fighters but YMMV. |
| Saberus01-05-07, 07:43 PM | How about a 9th level rogue reaching into his pocket for an ID and sneak attacking a 12th level fighter captain for max damage with a shocking burst dagger +2, in the throat. Rogue rolled two 20s and DM called it a Coup de Grace. Fighter failed the save. A sure battle destroyed by pure shankatude. |
| CryoSilver01-05-07, 07:48 PM | As a player, I am no longer allowed to use Polymorph Any Object or Fabricate to acquire potassium, cesium or francium. Nor am I allowed to implement my "Death Rain" scheme. Death Rain scheme: use PaO or Fabricate to acquire huge amounts of potassium. Use airship to sprinkle it on a city Use Control Weather to summon rain over the city Toast marshmallow |

| Corpsekin01-05-07, 09:46 PM | in a fight against a wight one of my players tried to disarm it, he rolled a natural 1 which provokes an attack of oppertunity(not sure if thatsa real rule or just a house rule but i like it^^) the wight rolls a natural1 and then confirms the critical failure with another natural 1 causing the wight to drop its weapon. So even though thr player bothched the roll spectacually the result was the same: a disarmed wight |
| Lakaniss01-05-07, 10:23 PM | ( Francium has 23 minutes of life and his actually a Rare Metal, so its harder to get large quantity of Francium whit spells, place them all over the city and make them explode before it become something else... id go whit Sodium, which is one of the most explosive alkaline metal you can find.) |
| Wayett01-06-07, 12:07 AM | 3.0 We had a great DM, but he was a crappy player and his player killed us sevreal times. Bad Player:(top of his lungs) Mr. Dragon we have you partailly surronded and want to slay you. Dragon: (waking up) O really? (Kills party in a gorey fashion here) So when his story got to the climax and the King was back on his throne, We used empowered chain lightening spells on the new king and the BBEG and killed them both. We were jerks. 3.5 Our rogue with a sword of trapfinding with a 20 ft. radius was always at the back of the party, so we found traps five seconds after they hit us, the wizard cast Exploding runes on his shirt, and the fighter wouldn't stop crusading against elves, dwarves, ogres, other men with red hair, gingers, halflings and gnomes. We weren't allowed to kill other players, so I made a ready action while I was on night watch to kill any living thing within 5 ft. They all dieid in 18 seconds. PEACE!! |
