Okay guys and Girls, heres the deal.

I have recently signed up for a new camapign starting up by a friend of mine.

So far, so good, right?

Well this is the harsh part.

The alternate rules extravaganza he is using.

He is using so many alternate rules my head hurts.

Flaws System, 3d6 method, "Quirk" (i think thats the name) system, and the Armor/damage conversion system, all from UA. He's also using some weird spell like ability sorceror.

For those who dont know the Armor system, basically subtract your armor bonus from all attacks and that much is subdual damage isntead.

So if a fighter attack you with his greatsword for 9 damage, and your wearing a chain shirt, you take 5 normal damage and 4 subdual.

Okay, now here-in lies my request to you guys, help me make a character.

My stats are as followed, I am allowed to switch any two stats, no more, no less.

Str 17
Dex 10
Con 11
Int 14
Wis 11
Cha 8

Obviously, i can make a good fighter type, especially fighter. itself. But let me tell you the rest of the party's characters to be.

(They can all easily do these combination cause they all got much prettier stats then me, i think the smallest one of them has a +9 bonus if totalled, but im not here to gripe on that.)

We are starting at first level but i know there plans:

Character 1: "Judge"

Alignment: Lawful good
Starting as: Cleric
Goal: Fighter 4/ Cleric 1/Paladin X

Character 2: "Justice"

Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Starting as: Rogue
Goal: Fighter 4/ Rogue 3/ Justicar X

Character 3: "Jury"

Alignment: Neutral Good
Starting as: Fighter
Goal: Fighter 4/ Sorceror X

The nicknames are how i see them portraying their characters.

As you can tell everyone else in the party will have 4 levels in fighter before level 7.

So boys, girls, gimme your best, your worse, and everything in-between.

Uh-huh... with all these rules changes, he's not playing D&D anymore.

I'd tell him you were expecting to play a D&D game, and since he's using a homebrew rules system that you're not familiar with, you're having second thoughts...

This one is meant to be the parties "executioner" their brunt man and rager, the person whos job it is to take down those they can, and do what they wont when he sees it as being needed.

Barbarian 1
Barbarian 1/ Fighter 1
Barbarian 2/ Fighter 1
Barbarian 2/ Fighter 2
Barbarian 2/ Fighter 3
Barbarian 2/ Fighter 4
Barbarian X/ Fighter 4

Alignment: Neutral

Str 17
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 11
Wis 11
Cha 8

Flaws:
Blurry eyed (Roll twice when opponent has cover, if either fails, you miss)
(Also the one where you suffer a -2 penalty on all ranged attack rolls)

Feats:
Extend Rage
Extra Rage
Power Attack
Cleave
(Taking Weapon focus/Great cleave/Weapon spec with the fighter bonus feats)

Skills:
Craft 4 (Weaponsmithing)
Any others

He is still a friend, so i dont wanna brush him off like that. I promise to at least try out his system, before i throw in my hat.

Who knows, it might be fun.

Eeep forgot to mention it for those who wanna help me on this, and wanna be specific on weapon choices, he is, yup, you guessed it, using the weapon groups rolls (Which i honestly think benefits the combat classes a bit, especially fighters.)

Well armour is all-powerful with that variant and you don't have a Dex, so something that wears full plate is compulsory. Fighter/Barbarian works (and lets you get away without too much Con). Extra Rage is definetely very useful (I see you have that already). However you don't get much benefit from barbarian levels after the first since you already have rage 3/day. Maybe keep going fighter and pick up a prestige class as soon as possible.
Incidentally, isn't blurry eyed the feat that makes a character roll twice when trying to get past concealment? Potentially very bad (in darkness, blur, invisibility, etc.)

Also note, since you can pick up feats easily with Flaws, Human is less attractive as a race (bonus feat? huh). Dwarf or half-orc could work. (That'd be Cha 6, though)

Ah, they're official suggestions from WotC in the book Unearthed Arcana.

You know, I am not a big fan of UA. Things like this reaffirm my choice to keep my campaigns core only with specific exceptions.

It sounds to me like the DM just got a shiny new book and wants to play with it. Not that there is a problem with that, but you might want to gently remind him that new rules can have unexpected consequences, and many new rules tend to have consequences greater than the sum of their parts.

I am also a little bit confused as to why the rest of your party has much higher stats than yours- was this just an inprobable occurance?

Anyway, so long as you aren't going to prestige, your build seems doable. I might consider getting rid of blurry eyed though, either replacing it with something else. It could really hurt you in certain situations, and will compound your post-rage fatiuge in large battles.

First off, this probably belongs on the Character Optimization Board.

Now...

Can you change where your stats are allocated? Having Strength and Intelligence as your high stats will leave you on the low end of the power scale. I would put the 17 in Wisdom and the 14 in either Intelligence (if you use the 'polymoph changes your total hp' ruling) or Constitution (if you use the 3.0 ruling).

Now, one thing confuses me. Do you HAVE to have 4 Fighter levels, or are all three of the other party members just foolish enough to take them willingly?

If not, I would start as a LN Monk, then become a Druid, going toward wild shape-oriented Prestige Classes like Nature's Warrior and Warshaper. With all the UA variants running around, go ahead and go into the variant Monk that grants Improved Grapple and a bonus on Tumble checks at 1st level.

Enjoy making all your higher-stat compatriots frothing mad with jealousy. :D

Thanks for everything so far guys.

No, you dont have to have 4 levels of fighter. But i refuse to play a monk. (Half personal intent, half dm's idea of a monk, think friar tuck from robin hood.)

As for my stats, i simply rolled bad. I am allowed to switch any two stats.

I just have to say, a kung-fu shapechanging Friar Tuck would be at LEAST six flavors of awesome.

Still, you don't have to have the monk level for that to be the best way to use your stats. Even a straight druid would be excellent, and a druid/warshaper/nature's warrior would still be much stronger than the rest of the party.

Does anyone out here know what weapon group the scythe falls in, as the more i miss with this concept the more interested i get in using a scythe or axe.

Hopefully it'll be a axe or mace.

Swap the Str and Dex and go for an Arcane Archer.
