Every day he spends an hour or two writing down the events of the day and checking to make sure none of his memory has changed. Now the other PCs will be joining me (as equal members) as per my request for crew for my new ship (I'll have just finished sailing with other pirates). I abhor death though and will be using a merciful weapon. Think of it as a paranoid Robin Hood of the sea. Except we don't give to the poor, just take from the rich. The world we're in is very high level (not standard D&D, 10th level characters are fairly uncommon, 15th are getting to be serious heros, 20th is a well-known, renowned hero/villain, and epic is epic, but not completely unique, there are a FEW other epic people). We start at 19th level, but I don't know whether I want to take swashbuckler all the way, or take probably ranger and then Justiciar (CW). I like Justiciar, but I don't know if it's such a great class for a pirate (and doesn't provide proffession as a class skill, for sailor). I need to be fairly good in combat still so that has to be taken into consideration as well as flavour. I'm leaning towards Justiciar, but those last few swashbuckler abilities dealing with critical would be quite nice. Especially if I eventually multiclassed into Tempest (we're going into epic levels) and used two rapiers/two great scimitars from Sandstorm. Edit: Naturally I'd have to change the character's story a bit to be a Justiciar (perhaps I could be a privateer and hunt down other pirates while looting enemy cities).

The Urban Ranger variant from Unearthed Arcana may work mixed with Rogue or Swashbuckler. If the PrC is a problem right now...wait. I am sure the supplement Stormwrack will have something for ya.
