| ToxicWiz05-12-05, 03:39 PM | I want to create a elite soldier as such, but not something that is a straight-forward fighter. I was thinking one of those troops that could use a cure spell to help an injured friend (or maybe have an ample supply of heal potions?), maybe launch a harming inflict or similiar at the enemy, or use invisbility to scout ahead. I was thinking maybe cleric, because they seem to be good in combat and have a range of spells or maybe a multiclass is the answer? Suggestions please (I apologise for the spelling) |
| Aeromus05-12-05, 04:13 PM | Sounds like a Paladin to me. |
| Geethree05-12-05, 04:46 PM | You're probably going to want to multiclass, but a bard might work well for your idea. |
| Steely Glint05-12-05, 04:53 PM | Can't go wrong with a cleric. Choose the war domain, and destruction / luck / strength. With a few buffs, you'll be a killing machine. It may be tempting to multiclass, but from a mechanics perspective the best thing you can do is go pure cleric (or full casting PrC). |
| zerotkatama05-12-05, 05:23 PM | Ranger. Definently Ranger. |
| Osiris Memnoch05-12-05, 08:03 PM | If you want a soldier then fighter is for you. What you describe is either a combat medic or a cleric with some scouting ability. Personally, if soldier is what you're going for, I would suggest a human fighter with Able Learner and cross classed ranks in lots of things like heal, hide, move silently, and survival. Heal is one ability that is too often overlooked. It's a damn good skill. But, if you're looking for a more "power" and less "character concept" cleric/fighter with trickery domain seems about right. Cleric/Fighters are better than Paladins in my opinion. |
| Torack05-13-05, 02:41 AM | I agree with who-ever advised to go with the Ranger. Ofcourse you get hosed on the armour proficiencies, but if you're looking for the hidy-sneaky helping out kind the PHB Ranger is the class for you. If you are allowed to use non-PHB classes, you should also check out the Marshal. It's more of a commanderish class, but still very good. |
| PhaedrusXY05-13-05, 03:25 AM | Ranger1/Cleric with Able Learner. If you can use Forgotten Realms material, go into the Windwalker prestige class. Don't be tempted to multiclass more into things that dilute your caster levels. |
| NinjaGarret05-13-05, 03:41 AM | Ranger, and if you want to be all that you can be, Ranger/Fighter. Rangers get healing spells eventually(don't ask me when), but you can pump ranks into Heal. Not only that, but you'll get lovely little bonus feats from the fighter levels, making your ranger stronger in combat(though you get shafted skill wise). |
| boredgremlin05-13-05, 05:09 AM | I would say a fighter long enough to get a few bonus feats and weapon specialization. Then go into a cleric with with the war and either travel or trickery domains. |
| ToxicWiz05-15-05, 02:11 PM | Thanks for all the advice, i'll need to think about your suggestions, but i don't think paladin will be an option. just a quick side track, could someone explain this able learner is and does? i haven't heard of it, or maybe i'm not reading carefully enough. Thanks again! :D |
| illiterate05-15-05, 03:26 PM | most armies through history (if not all) would not have every member having special healing training. maybe first aid, stabilization til the healer can show up. the heal skill works just fine for that. for a combat medic, a cleric with the war domain would be a good bet. |
| Gworraent05-15-05, 03:39 PM | i'd multiclass w/ a human fighter and then the base class marshal( you can find that in the complete mini) |
