| Deadlion08-14-05, 07:20 AM | I just wondered what everyone's favourite class to run as a PC is. Not from a rules standpoint, but as in "What do you most enjoy roleplaying as?" Personally I like... Fighter: It seems to me that the fighter is often thought of as the most boring character class, so I find it a nice challenge to make interesting fighters. Ranger: Ever since I first heard of D&D I have loved rangers. Everything about them, from the name, to the image, to the tactics, just seems to appeal to me :) Sorcerer: I like sorcerers because I've always thought spellcasters should be enchanting characters who intuitively bend reality to their whim rather than stuffy "scientists" researching their spells and incantations. |
| Santrilla08-14-05, 07:40 AM | Kneejerk reaction is Wizard, simply because they're soo coooool. But I think any class can be fun to roleplay, depending on how you roleplay it. For example, I've just started a paladin (a class which, curiously, I don't think I've ever played before) of Moradin, and it's great fun being a defender of justice and all that. I also enjoyed my sorcerer/rogue I played a while ago, with her mad climbing skillz and attitude to redistribution of wealth ("He looks rich. I'm poor. For Equality! *pickpockets*"). To be honest I don't think you can really define roleplaying 'fun-ness' through class. Or race, for that matter. A character's personality is defined by YOU, not by its attributes. |
| TheraerTheWanderingBard08-14-05, 08:22 AM | I have always loved the bard, i dont know why. Maybe its because i like a challange, bards are always looked at as support drones, and i like the challange of making ones that arent. That and i just like to fight while singing Bohemion Rhapsody. |
| nyysjan08-14-05, 08:30 AM | Wizards (twist the universe into funny shapes with just a word and a gesture) Rogue (the all time skill monkeys, and backstab rules) Bard (like the flavor, good skills, and magic, need to try soon) |
| Deadlion08-14-05, 02:36 PM | To be honest I don't think you can really define roleplaying 'fun-ness' through class. Or race, for that matter. A character's personality is defined by YOU, not by its attributes. I definately agree. I could easily enjoy my roleplaying sessions as a paladin, I just happen to have a tendency to go for rangers more often :) I just thought it'd be interesting to see which classes everyone else is particularly drawn to. |
| Calibron08-14-05, 03:37 PM | Bard, definitely Bard. |
| Duration_10_Rounds08-14-05, 03:57 PM | Paladins and Rogues. I like playing the rogue as every one expects you to rob them blind so when you just give all the loot to every one else and take nothing for your self they think your a saint.... when in fact your arming them so they always go first, chrage in and draw all the attention from you... and when that one sweet, sweet item pops up you can say ... "well I haven't had a single peice of the spoils in the last few months i think its about time, dont you?" and it flies :D Secondly i really like the paladin becuase you can be a party orientated person out to save thier lives but be so bloody aloof and arogant they all hate you but at the same time need you.... Though i was ROYALY pee'd off last time i played one when my party side tracked on my holy quest to grave rob. I walked away wanting nothing to do with it and letting them know clearly, but i didnt totaly disassociate with them as they where needed as this quest was for a MUCH greater good (killing a litch!) also it would have totaly ruined the game in the name of playing a bit too "Lawful".... A couples of minuites later they came screeming up the corridoor, raw flesh hanging from thier bodies like somthing out of Robocop.... They got caught in an very potant Acid trap while grave robbing and i shot them an "I told you so!" and didn't imediatley try to Lay on Hands For this the DM forced me to change my alignment as i was neither lawfull enough to leave and report them (and totaly abandon a mission to kill a Litch that my church commanded me to do at all costs!) nor was i compationate enough to heal the bastards without question and keep my "Good" alignment either. :headexplo So i havent bothered playing a paladin in our regular DMs games (despite loving them) as we seem to not see eye to eye on exactly how much leeway for roleplaying there is in the LG alignment coupled with the paladins code of honour. :( But in any other game id pretty much be a Paladin all the time ;) |
| Kintara08-14-05, 04:07 PM | I like Bards, not so much for the travelling minstrel aspect of it, but because I like having a selection of skills (including "face" skills), decent combat ability, and some nice spells. I also like buffing the party. Also, my role isn't as tightly defined as a Cleric's might be (who ends up constantly healing). Sorcerers fit my style as far as full arcane spellcasters. I don't like prepping spells. Druids are my favorite divine counterpart, despite having to prep spells (at least I don't need a spellbook). I also like Rangers, Fighters, and Paladins, in roughly that order, for when I play a fighting class. Monks and Barbarians aren't my style. For the new base classes, I like Hexblades, Warmages, Swashbucklers, Scouts and Warlocks. Edit: Oh, psionics! The Psychic Rogue, from the Mind's Eye web article, is one of my favorite classes. I like Rogues, too, for that matter. My next character is going to be a Seer/Rogue gestalt, so I'll see if I like Psions. I have a feeling I will. |
| Laranis Callirr08-14-05, 04:43 PM | Bards, for their wide skill choices and many playing styles. Psions, for being self-sufficient spellcasters. I like that concept. Sorcerers, for the simple raw magic power that they have. Rangers, also for the whole 'self-sufficient' thing. And Two-Weapon Fighting is sexy. |
| Sir Ferdinand08-14-05, 04:57 PM | My favorite class to play is definately a Paladin. Actually I'm currently playing as a Paladin in one of the two campaigns, and in the last gaming session, my Paladin reached 10th level. It's the highest level character for me ever. Why I like to play as Paladins, is because the whole "You must be good" thing is challenging, although I actually find them pretty easy to play (I tend to be pretty good aligned in real life as well). But there always seems to be new challenged for them. In the current campaign, my Paladin decided to help his father to keep his temple in a good health, and my Paladin decided to try to build the thorp into a bigger city as well, and also a build a temple of his own there. He serves Torm and my Paladin's father serves Tyr whch (the deities) are good friends, so it works fine. He also accepted a task to get rid of some undead problem (during that trip a lot of things went wrong however, because we faced one red dragon... only my Paladin and our party Wizard survived from the battle after out tactics totally failed). Other nice class to play is a Bard. In the other of the two campaign I played as a Bard (was supposed to become a melee Bard, but after rolling so poor hit points, I had to scrap the idea and try something else). Eventually he died however, so unfortunately I had to write a new character (I rolled to see if he wanted to continue or not after being raised from the dead). Bards are nice all around characters, but their knowledge and charisma allows some very nice roleplaying opportunities. The third nice class is a Cleric. There's tons of different Clerics you can play thanks to the spell list and the deities/domains (especially if you play in Forgotten Realms). Though since I like to play as Paladins, I tend to play good Clerics as well. But not always. |
| Rogirrek08-14-05, 05:11 PM | hmmm...that's a tough one Ranger: i like the option of having some spells available but still being able to hold my own in combat Warlock: i think they're neat, eldritch blasts are downright handy and if you pick your invocations right then you really don't need to worry about lack of spells Cleric: Mainly because of the ranger reason, also, no matter what the rest of your party is you'll always have a use |
| Talcoram Cyndar08-14-05, 06:06 PM | In no particular order: Ranger Scout Rogue Sorcerer Barbarian Fighter Warlock Swashbuckler Wizard Paladin Monk Believe it or not, I have never played: Cleric Bard Druid Don't know why, I just can't seem to think up an original, fun character concept that would keep me interested in the character. -TC |
| Raxor08-14-05, 06:13 PM | This may get some sidelong glances, but my actual very-favorite class to play is the cleric. Especially the Sun domain cleric. I just get so into roleplaying when I play that character. It makes the rest of the players in my group happy, too, because they don't have to be the party healer and can play whatever they want. It's gonna break their hearts next game when I decide to play a Deathwalker. |
| Norhg08-14-05, 06:19 PM | Bard, such a broad and versatile class... Nothing compares! Otherwise I like the Psion and the Wizard, more of a Psion person than Wizard though... And I do barbarian at times, just because "I don't want to be the 'group thinker'!" |
| SOKAR08-14-05, 06:23 PM | Druid, I love animals. (I wanna be a vet when i grow up) Wizard, the high intelligance bookworm idea. |
| CzarGarrett08-15-05, 10:03 AM | I enjoy Bards, Druids, and Wilders. |
| Phaylan the Drow08-15-05, 10:25 AM | my favorite was a drow rogue who i got up to 16th lvl. but enjoy playing paladins who turn very, very evil after 11th lvl and become blackguards, it turns out to be so much fun to go evil by sinning in thought and at the first truly devistating moment to lay on hands evily and kill the character that has annoyed me the most in the current campain, and to have my pristine white charger turn into a nightmare/skelital steed. wizzards are so much fun but had work up to 4th lvl and very interesting afterwards, clerics are very samey but needed, bards are a waste of a soul but are hillarious to play, rangers are always eating something that comes under the catorgory 'it tastes like sh%t but you can eat it' fighters inevitably wear plate and cry at the first sight of a rust monster, but regularly climb out of the mouth of somthing holding its balls, this is always changing because of prestige classes but its fun all the same. |
| cvazi08-15-05, 03:37 PM | If I am allowed to use psionics: Seer then Wilder. If not, it is a toss-up between druid(melee variant), barbarian or fighter. |
| murderbike08-15-05, 03:58 PM | I absolutely love rogues. Even without multiclassing you have a ridiculously wide range of ways to play the character, from suave cat-burglar to dashing scout to snobby diplomat to bloodthirsty murderer, and once you toss in a couple levels of fighter or sorcerer (or some prestige classes) . . . be still, my heart! |
| allenchan08-15-05, 04:43 PM | Clerics, and paladins of freedom. Rogues are cool, but only in conjunction with cleric or paladin multiclass |
| Red_Ninja08-15-05, 04:57 PM | Wizard- love making custom spells/items Paladins Ninja/Rogues (All others) I am creating a Arcanist (tinker) class which serves a great support role, but I have yet to try it... I also am dying to play fighter/rogue or ranger/rogue bounty hunter style character... |
| WizardlyFriend08-15-05, 05:18 PM | wizard, hands down. ive played most of 'em, and had some fun with rogues, but wizard is my favorite |
