| Yruc07-02-05, 01:35 AM | Howdy SRD normal cleric A cleric may attempt to turn undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. Sun domain: Once per day, you can perform a greater turning against undead in place of a regular turning. No extra turn attempts For fun lets say charisma of 16. So the modifier is +2. So cleric can turn undead 5 times one of which can be Greater turning. Now add this feat EXTRA TURNING [GENERAL] Benefit: Each time you take this feat, you can use your ability to turn or rebuke creatures four more times per day than normal. If you have the ability to turn or rebuke more than one kind of creature each of your turning or rebuking abilities gains four additional uses per day. Normal: Without this feat, a character can typically turn or rebuke undead (or other creatures) a number of times per day equal to 3 + his or her Charisma modifier. Special: You can gain Extra Turning multiple times. Its effects stack. Each time you take the feat, you can use each of your turning or rebuking abilities four additional times per day. Now cleric can turn undead 9 times one of which can be Greater turning. Now add Radiant Servant of Pelor. Under class features it grants Extra Greater Turning. The radiant servant of Pelor can perform a greater turning (the granted power of the Sun domain) a number of times per day equal to 3 + her charisma modifier. Here is my question. Still the same cleric still 16 base charisma. Now does that mean the cleric can now turn undead 9 times one of which can be Greater Turning AND 5 additional Greater turn attempts (3 + 2 charisma modifier) OR is it just 9 attempts still with 6 that can be Greater Turn attempts (5 from Radiant servant and 1 from Sun domain?) Or is it some other number? So question is how many times can this cleric do normal turn attempts and greater turn attempts? Thanks |
| Cymraegmorgan07-02-05, 02:07 AM | 8 regular turnings, and 6 greater turnings, is how I read it. Undead will not like you. |
| Ellanon07-02-05, 02:16 AM | That's wicked. I'll have to use that when I run a game next or for my next character. |
| Yruc07-02-05, 02:32 AM | Awesome thank you :) |
| Cymraegmorgan07-02-05, 02:50 AM | Why do I have the feeling that the Mouth of the Abyss is about to spew forth right into this poor cleric's face. :D |
| Ellanon07-02-05, 03:07 AM | That would be one 'hell' of a hack/slash game! |
| Cymraegmorgan07-02-05, 04:30 AM | That would be one 'hell' of a hack/slash game! Ahhh, your pun-fu is excellent. |
| Dave Stebbins07-02-05, 10:06 AM | Two things. A 16 ability score gives a +3 modifier, not +2. I would rule that Greater Extra Turning changes all of a cleric's original turn attempts into greater turning attempts (since both are 3 + CHA mod). I would rule that it overlaps and does not stack with the original Greater Turning attempt granted by the Sun domain, unless there are words specifically stating differently in the description. Cleric: 3 + 3 = 6 turn attempts Extra Turning: additional four turn attempts Sun Domain: one Greater Turning attempt/day Greater Extra Turning: 3 + 3 = 6 Greater Turning attempts. Final = 10 turning attempts/day, of which six can be Greater Turn attempts. |
| Yruc07-02-05, 10:59 AM | quite right 16 is +3. *smacks forehead* so far been undead happy campaign and I just want to remove the vile abominations from the game world. I'll have to ask my DM on the # then but I would think that one would get the extra greater turn attempts in addition to the ones you had because it says you gain them not convert them... thanks again for info :) |

The wording on gaining those greater turnings is specific. It does not "convert" types you already have. |

It does not "convert" types you already have. I would agree if the extra turning feat is a requirement for the Greater Extra Turning ability (don't have the source material, is it required?). If it is not, and the character does not take the extra turning feat, you end up with 6 turn attempts per day, of which seven can be greater turnings, which doesn't make much sense. That's why I ruled, in the absence of the source material, that the Greater Extra Turning attempts wouldn't stack with the Greater Turning domain ability. If the Extra Turning feat is a requirement to gain the Greater Extra Turning ability, then I would OK seven greater turnings per day for the PC. -Dave PS - adding one to each category gives you 10 and 7, not 9 and 7. |

Thanks the cleric's regular turning attempts per day would be: 3 + 3 (CHA) + 4 (EXTRA TRUNING FEAT) = 10 Turning Attempts. then his GREATER TURNING ability: 1 (Sun Domain Ability) + 3 (RSoP Ability) + 3 (CHA) = 7 so he has 10 TOTAL turning attempts, 7 of which are GREATER. The RSoP ability is called EXTRA Greater Turning, i take that as meaning in addition to, especially being that it doesnt mention that this takes the place of the Sun Domain's inital greater turning ability. |
| Dartanel07-03-05, 10:57 PM | The key to this is the parenthetical notation in the description of Extra Greater Turning. It specifically identifies the Greater Turnings as 'the granted power of the sun domain.' This means they obey all the rules of the granted power, including that the replace an existing turn attempt. |
