I have a problem. I just started a new campaign where everyone decided we would play evil characters. I got my DM to allow me to be a Cleric with no God, just an ideal to worship and I could have any two domains I wanted. I chose envy and suffering from the Spell Compendium?(I can't remember the name of the book, and the DM took it home with him. It’s the book that is all about spells and domains.) I wanted this character to be rather quiet and to himself while always seeming uninterested in everything. The only thing he would get pleasure from would be pain and suffering in others. I have been having fun with him so far, but I happened to stumble onto the Dread Witch in the book Heroes of Horror. I can see how my character would start to become obsesses with scaring people and I thought it would just make this character awesome to play. The problem is it requires the ability to cast the spell Scare. Scare is a 2 bard, 2 sorc/wiz spell. The only way I can think of getting that spell without obtaining levels in any of those classes is buy getting the spell "Anyspell" which is also in that spell compendium book. The problem is that the only way a cleric can learn Anyspell is if they are of the Spell domain. I have been trying to think of a way to reach into that domain and get the spell without actually having the Spell domain. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this problem? Either how to get Anyspell, or any other way I can get the Dread Witch requirements.

Anyspell wouldn't, technically, fulfill the requirements for the prestige class.

Your best bet here is to talk to the DM and see if he'll tailor the class to you a bit. Alter the pre-reqs, maybe change an ability or two.

Alternately, try asking the DM if he'll let you spend an extended period in prayer, meditation and sacrificing/tithing (custom research) for getting Scare as a 3rd level cleric spell. Some will let you research a spell from the wrong class list at 1 level higher than it actually is.

There is a feat in the Complete Arcane which allows a character to gain a spell which normally would be unavailable to them (I forget the feat name).

It is designed for Sorcerers and Bards, but it does not actually state that a Cleric cannot take the feat.

I will ask the DM if I can gain the spell another way, and I will check Complete Arcane. Thank you for the ideas. Im am confused however on why Anyspell would not fill the requirement. When I see "Ability to cast cause fear and scare" I would think that if the Cleric has the ability to cast it then the requirement has been fulfilled. Unless I missed something Anyspell alows the Cleric the ability to cast any arcane spell 2nd level and below. Does scare not fit this description?

The problem is, ability to emulate a spell is not the same as ability to cast it. Casting a spell with identical effects to Scare isn't the same as casting Scare, as far as prerequisites are concerned.

You might get a Scare effect out of Anyspell, but you're still casting Anyspell, not Scare.

Ah, that makes sense. I did not realize that Anyspell emulated that spell you chose, I had thought it allowed you to cast the actual spell. I must admit, its been a long time since I read the discription.
