Khobar 03-02-05, 07:24 PM	Hi I have just started to play as a Cleric of saint Cuthbert.. and I begg for advice.. can anybody give me a link or something how to play as cleric... And how should I act as a saint Cuthbert ..generally I need something like code of this saint or something similar... And what feats shall i take I'm human so I can take two on the beginning... so in two words ...Help please... :confused:
Super Guy 03-02-05, 07:35 PM	Feats, depends on what you like :) St. Cuthbert himself is Lawful Neutral. I'm not totally familiar with him... I believe he is basically the God of Justice, basically. You would, therefore, not ally yourself (if you're sticking true to him) to criminals. The party bard or rogue might be under your suspicion if they look like they like to steal or swindle. His vengeance is supreme, of course. You'd likely desire to hunt the wrong-doer down and finish him off (unless he surrendered, in which case you should probably bring him to court, but I'm not sure if St. Cuthbert is more likely to do that or kill. Probably wouldn't kill a surrendered foe) Honor is likely very important to you. Remember, you don't have to be a stickler. Unless you want to be.
Khobar 03-02-05, 07:45 PM	Well one thing is for sure...feats should be for cleric who will try to aid his party , and if endangered fight quite well...and there is another question...what prestige class to take? and the the code issue is still on the top of topic :D
Kintaran 03-02-05, 08:03 PM	My take on Saint Cuthbert, from a vaguely Greyhawk-influenced perspective, is the opposite of your typical LG god. He was listed as the god of retribution, zeal, and practicality in the Living Greyhawk pantheon, which is how I like to think of him. Basically, you wouldn't care if something isn't perfect, as long as it gets the job done. Armor is no more effective when shiny, unless it is MAGICALLY shiny and blinds people. Note that he is not the god of vengeance, he is the god of retribution. You do not go around inflicting eye for an eye type justice, you find serious criminals and inflict fair justice, which is usually lethal, given Saint Cuthbert's zeal. You do not waste time making sure everything is just right, not like those silly clerics of Pholtus, but you make sure everything will work. Generally, use the most effective tactic you have access to. Being a cleric of Saint Cuthbert means that nonevil subterfuge, like sneaking into an enemy castle or lying to fiends is perfectly acceptable. However, the 'beat the fiend down' strategy remains a popular one. Kill it if you can, back off and set up to do so later otherwise. Be prepared to run and heal, and be prepared to buff and beat.
Helmed Horror 03-02-05, 08:31 PM	Straight from the complete divine entry on him.. says his clerics are trained similar to a divine boot camp, pray all day and night and memorize scriptures till your brain explodes... as well as that their teachings are a strict code of commandments.. and you archaic pronounciations.. Thy..thou..blesseth.. hope I helped... PS. I hope you know you do not have to follow what is in the book as long as it is ok with your DM. I'm sure he will let you do something else as long as you have a good background.

DM Denubis 03-02-05, 11:52 PM	Remember, Cuthbert sides with good over evil, although he is not good himself. You are not allowed to be evil, but on the other hand, you're not a paladin. You don't need to kill anything that's evil. But if it comes down to it, your god leans towards good, not evil.

However, consider this: one of the reasons RPGs are popular is because *you* create the character you're going to be/play. If there was any "right" set of feats or skills for a said character, then D&D would come with pre-generated characters. That said, what feats are "right" for you depends on Ability Scores, Skill Ranks, and what you intend to do with the character (compensate for his weaknesses, focus on his strengths, fighting defensively or offensively, etc). Post your character here, or make a new thread in the Character Optimization board - you'll get more help that way.
Tolby 03-03-05, 01:37 PM	I would say weapon focus Mace would be a good feat choice as it is the favored weapon of your diety. You might also try combat casting. What domains did you choose by the way? I prefer destruction and Strength myself.
Andrew_980 03-03-05, 07:35 PM	you know all of those threads about executing prisoners? these preists won't hesitate. if the penalty for a crime is death the preist of cuthbert will carry it it the most practical way. they smite law breakers as much as evil, good breaks less laws so side with them. come to think of it i should start a church of cuthbert......
