| Kitsunefoxrunner05-09-07, 06:44 PM | Alright here is the deal, I am planning on creating a cleric, but i cant seem to decide on a race for him. What races would you people suggest for a cleric? And why? Thanks! |
| secher_nbiw4505-09-07, 06:58 PM | Human. those extra skill points you get are nice, and you will need them. i screwed myself and made a halfelf cleric... |
| Kitsunefoxrunner05-09-07, 07:22 PM | Thanks, i have another question. What are the most important stats for a cleric. Im assuming Int and Wis, but what else is really important. |
| VerdugoExplode05-09-07, 07:26 PM | Warforged. Now this may seem counterintuitive, what with the charisma penalty and whatnot but bear with me. Imagine this, the battle is over, people are wounded(but not so much as to skip looting the bodies) and you cry out "Healing Sequence ENGAGE!" and begin dispensing the cure spells to make everyones day a bit brighter. "Advanced Reasonance Disruption" for shatter, "Severe Injury Dispension" for harm, the list is endless. Well, it goes on for each spell so it's not actually endless but you get the drift. Just think about it, with a vengeance! |
| secher_nbiw4505-09-07, 07:35 PM | with respect to abilities, Wis should be your primary focus (spells per day, how hard those spells are to resist). A Cha bonus helps your turning ability. what kind of cleric do you want to play? do you want to mix it up with the badguys, or are you going to be more of a bookish, REMF cleric? |
| runestar05-09-07, 11:08 PM | I agree with human for the extra feat and skill points. Dwarf is not bad either, for the con bonus(if you willing to dump cha). You can leave int at 10 or 12 unless you are taking a domain which grants extra class skills. You will want to pump wis, followed by con, and maybe str. Dex can be left at 10 since you can use heavy armour. I doubt your dm will allow divine metamagic anyways, so extra turn attempts aren't that useful. |
| draco111905-10-07, 06:34 AM | I'm a big fan of the Dwarf Battlepriest, meself... :) |
| BoringInfoGuy05-10-07, 04:41 PM | Dwarf is not a bad choice at all. The Con bonus is worth the Cha penalty, in my opinion. As the cleric, you need to stay alive so that you can keep the rest of the party going. Once you drop, the party is in trouble. For your stat priorities. 1st: Wisdom is most important, for your spells. And Will saves are important. 2nd: Con for the HP and Fort saves. Charisma for Turning undead. 3rd: Int for more skills. Str for combat and carrying loads. 4th: Dex. The heavy armor you should wear limits the Dex bonus you can apply to AC. Your spells can take care of ranged combat, so range attack rolls aren't vital. Reflex will suffer. But it's your weak point anyway. You haven't asked about feats / equipment yet. . . Assuming you are not going for a CoDzilla. You should focus on improving your armor before weapons. The longer you can survive, the longer the party can survive. Enchanting armor costs half of what it costs to enchant weapons, and that's where you should be investing your treasure. A single CLW wand can greatly improve your parties survivability at low levels. Get one as soon as possible. Endurance and Die Hard feats were written for you. Die hard lets you auto stabilize, or stay conscious at -1 or worse HP. That gives you a chance to self heal. Endurances ability to sleep in up to medium armor without penalty helps you out during those annoying middle of the night attacks. |
| Empiro05-10-07, 06:08 PM | The new Magic Item Compendium has pretty much eliminated the need to ever not go without your full plate -- the Restful Crystal for a mere 500gp lets you sleep in any armor without fatigue. |
| thegoodwarlock05-10-07, 07:56 PM | i once made a stonechild cleric, boy was that annoying.... |
| Horus_Sungod05-10-07, 09:06 PM | Well, if you really want to pwn, it's hard to go wrong with Lesser Planetouched from Player's Guide to Faerun. If your REAAAALLY want to PWN (and have a ridiculous character) make an anthropomorhic bat from Savage Species. However, if this is disallowed (should be, especially for the bat!), Human is good because of the feat which makes it easier to pump up divine metamagic quickly. |
| EvilDeathBee05-10-07, 10:06 PM | Aasimar. +2 Wis, +2 Cha. Darkvision 60ft. Resist Acid Elec Cold 5. LV mod 1. Goooood stuff. |
| Horus_Sungod05-10-07, 10:37 PM | Aasimar. +2 Wis, +2 Cha. Darkvision 60ft. Resist Acid Elec Cold 5. LV mod 1. Goooood stuff. Lesser Aasimar. Same, exept humanoid instead of Outsider NO level adjustment. |
| EvilDeathBee05-10-07, 10:47 PM | Races of Faerune? Or was that the Players Guide. Either way, i don't have, but I like it. |
| thegoodwarlock05-10-07, 11:22 PM | dont they have a +4 level adjustment?. if i remeber right they are from races of destiny, not for sure, i was reading through my races books and remember either seeing it in races pf destiny or races of stone, cant remember? |

Races of Destiny is correct. Favored class is Pally, and it is a +1 LA. Celestial is the +4. |
