Cleric's Turning Ability - Question .. Help! [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have a question to turning level and items. Does the Good Domain (adds +1 to turning level), Improved Turning (adds +1 to turning level), and Flametouched Holy Symbol (Eberron: Adds +1 to turning level) all stack to make it +3

Or does turning levels not stack ..

Any help would be great!!!!

Improved Turning is untyped and so should stack w/ anything.

Dunno bout that Eberonjiggy...but regardless it should stack w/ Imp Turning as long as it's a turning bonus or across the board CL+.

The Good Domain does indeed only boost the CL of a spell with the [Good] descriptor. It does nothing to your ability to Turn Undead at all.

The Flametouched Holy Symbol and Improved Turning is tricky, because the language choice is pretty poor in my opinion. The Feat allows you to Turn Undead "as if you were one level higher than you are in the class that grants you the ability". The Holy Symbol says the character can Turn Undead (or censure fiends), "as if his class level were one level higher than it actually is".

Do two things that seem to operate on your actual class level rather than your effective class level stack? My instinct would be to say no.

That being said, I think the intent was to allow them to stack. The feat Improved Turning existed well before the Eberron Campaign Setting book was published, so the author should at least have had an idea it existed. The cost of the Holy Symbol is also just 750gp, which is pretty cheap for an item that could replace a feat. Combined with the fact that traditional Turning gets fairly weak as a character goes up in level (relative to the HD of Undead), I think the Holy Symbol's ability is supposed to stack with Improved Turning.
