I've only been playing for a year, and i need some advice as to how to make the most of this character. We play in a group of four and we are all multiclassed. I have a cleric3/rouge2 and he is human and has domains in death and trickery. He also uses a scythe since his diety is Nerull. He is also neutral evil. The problem i keeping having is that he keeps getting knocked out. We don't really have much gold yet and we really don't get to adventure much since we really only play once a month, so is there any advice on what i can do in prep time or any tactics that might make him stronger. We use the core books and the spell compendium and the magic item compendium. His stats are str 16 dex 16 con 18 int 12 wis 19 cha 17.

Hmm... Really good stats You could get the Diehard skill, so he stays conscious longer.

Stay off the front line.

Your stealty skills will take a beating in the cleric's stereotypical heavy armor. I'd normally recommend a finessable weapon over a scythe, but your STR and DEX are the same, so it doesn't matter here.

Select spells to maximize the roguish aspects of your character, and to boost your combat skills to help land those all-important Sneak Attacks.

Check with your DM to see if he'll adapt the Shadowbane Stalker prestige class from Complete Adventurer to evil (it's flavor, mostly). It's a cleric/rogue multiclass PrC with some nifty class features focusing on stealth, and includes progression for both sneak attack and cleric spells.

Make use of your high CHA and (hopefully) maxed Use Magic Device skill to help soften things up and boost the other party members before moving into a flanking position to finish 'em off.

Alternately, focus on the combat prowess of your character and buff the snot out of things like CON and STR. Use your divine magic to its fullest, then flank and Sneak Attack.

All in all, however, you should NOT be the main tank. Hang back for a round or two while the party's meatshield softens things up, then flank for sneak attacks.

I think your First problem, and believe me its common, is that Rouge is a freaking colour not a class!?!?!? Perhaps actually reading the books you've had might help.
Sorry, but for flipping heck, i thought most D&D nerds (non-offensive generalisation) would actually be smart enough to spell the class they have taken...

Secondly, as a rogue cleric you arent a melee tank, as the Dr has pointed out. There isnt much you can do in prep time as a rogue, but a lvl 3 Cleric can cast some buff spells.

try and grab mithril armour, to get rid of armour check pens, and get your dex bonus to AC. As already stated, I hope you are not in the front line...

My advice, pick your spells carefully, and use your sneak attack to team up, flank and pick on the weak links in the opponent's battle line. Maybe go hunt casters or archers etc.

Oh, sorry, I thought this thread was about tips on priestly cosmetics.
I'll leave now.

...but seriously. You're half rogue, you should be hanging around the edge of the battle, not getting into positions to be K.O.ed.
Let us know more about your character, like what feats you have and which spells you use.

Personally... I recomend dropping the Scythe... I mean there is just really nothing out there that it goes with, and the whole Death image thing, its just so played out.

So what would a Rouge classed character be like?

I think they would have some kind of charisma-based special ability that depends on the quality of cosmetics and such that they get...

if they get access to that sperm whale scent thingy, i mean the dc for the suggestion thing is gonna be like *fifty*...

oh they have to be female... or if they are male, they should be flaming or at least dress as females... and the flaming types, if they DONT talk with a lisp, they lose class abilities...

what do you guys think? Can someone help me stat this up as a (completely custom!) base class?

Who here has never made a spelling error in their entire life?

If any of you raise a hand you are a nothing but a liar. Everyone makes spelling mistakes. And, rouge is a real word. A spell checker would not have picked it up. So, cut the guy some slack. Because, to paraphrase the false prophet, "Let he who is without stone cast the first warhammer."

Well he does have a great Cha so maybe just maybe he does wear a nice shade of pink on his cheeks to overcompesate for his undead minions. I picked up the scythe because i thought that a cleric had to use the weapon of his diety? If this is not the case then i will most certainly dump it. I put a lot of skills into knowlege arcana and religion of course, maxed out. Also in disable device and open lock and search of course. The problem i'm having is that our tank won't tank. They always want me to go check the room for traps and such and i usually am the once getting zapped or sneak attacked first. All in all this is great advice, but i didn't put many ranks into move silent because of my armor negatives. My feats are dodge, and i got martial weapon scythe of course, and combat reflexes.

There is in England. British spelling. Look it up.

Edit: Eh, sorry, I meant to put a smiley. Didn't mean it rudely :)

Personally, I would put 1 level into cleric, 2 in rogue, retrain feats (power attack, cleave, and improved sunder), and go blackguard.

There is if you're a Kiwi.

Check Turel's location.

Also note the "u" he used in colour.

I stand corrected. I failed to note the kiwi's location. Shouldn't his words be upside down, though, because he's on the bottom of the world? :D

But, there still isn't any reason to go off on someone because of simple bad spelling. Not only is it rude, but it isn't even some egregious statement that warrants a rude reply. It's not like he called someone a steaming pile of diarrhetic dragon who just ate a bunch of spoiled dwarves. It's not like he was rude to anyone in his post. So, why start down that road?

Take care and have a great day....

Actually only if the world was transparent. As the world turns the words look upright as the world spins around! :)

Here's some of your problems. Try to find a way to get a decent armor class without taking so many penalties to important skills. Insist on bringing someone with you for backup on scouting. It's also customary for the rogue to search/unlock/disable the door, then step back and have the tank actually open it.

I picked up the scythe because i thought that a cleric had to use the weapon of his diety? If this is not the case then i will most certainly dump it.
No, a cleric doesn't have to use his deity's weapon, though most clerics like to if they can. Tell your DM you misunderstood about that part, and ask him if you can ditch the scythe and get a more useful feat.

Also, to Mock26: There was only one person being rude about the spelling mistake. Everyone else here was just having a bit of a good natured laugh at a common, yet still hilarious, character transposition.
And as you can tell from Oakstone's post:
Well he does have a great Cha so maybe just maybe he does wear a nice shade of pink on his cheeks to overcompesate for his undead minions.
...he's being a good sport about it.
Take it easy. :)
