| Hasmead_Guy11-27-06, 04:31 AM | I posted this earlier and it didn't show up... oh well, here goes. If I choose a domain, how does this work- I can't cast spells against MY allignment, or my diety's? And whichever it is, does that mean I can't cast spells that are opposite of my good/evil axis, or my law/chaos axis? I hope this makes grammatic sense, because I'm really confused. PS: YES, I've read the player's handbook, I don't understand what they trying to say. |

| Azezel11-27-06, 05:59 AM | You must choose two domains - iy is not a matter of 'if I choose a domain'. You may cast any spell from the Cleric spell list, and any spell from your Domain list (subject to Domain spell slots) except those with a discriptor contrary to your deity's alignment. If you are Lawful Good, but worship St. Cuthbert, you can cast Protection from Good, even though the spell has the [evil] descriptor, because St. Cuthbert is a Neutral Deity on the good/evil axis. If you are Lawful Good and worship Heironeous you may not cast Protection from Good, because Heironeous is a good deity and simply does not grant spells with the [evil] descriptor. Your Domains barely come into it. |
| SamiPeikko11-27-06, 08:20 AM | Both restrictions apply. You must check both axis separately. For example if your god's aligment is Good, that prevents you from using spells with [Evil] descriptor. If your character's aligment is LG that would prevent you from casting spells with [Evil] descriptior and spells with [Chaos] descriptor. From SRD: Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or his deity’s (if he has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaos, evil, good, and law descriptors in their spell descriptions. |
| Hasmead_Guy11-27-06, 05:52 PM | So... mainly I'm checking the descriptor? So we're mainly worried about the good/evil axis, right? If I'm LG, then I can't cast spells that are chaotic, AND I can't cast spells that are evil? |
| draco111911-27-06, 06:53 PM | So... mainly I'm checking the descriptor? So we're mainly worried about the good/evil axis, right? If I'm LG, then I can't cast spells that are chaotic, AND I can't cast spells that are evil? Nope. If your GOD'S alignment is LG, you can't cast [Chaotic] or [Evil] spells. If you're a LG cleric of St. Cuthbert (LN) then you can cast [Good] or [Evil] spells with no problem, just not [Chaotic]. |
| Hasmead_Guy11-27-06, 07:42 PM | Geez, I had no idea I was so restricted. Thank you, I appreciate your help guys! |
| Salla11-27-06, 07:54 PM | Geez, I had no idea I was so restricted. Thank you, I appreciate your help guys! You could always play Eberron and not have that problem. :) |
| Greyman11-27-06, 11:25 PM | Nope. If your GOD'S alignment is LG, you can't cast [Chaotic] or [Evil] spells. If you're a LG cleric of St. Cuthbert (LN) then you can cast [Good] or [Evil] spells with no problem, just not [Chaotic].St. Cuthbert, being rather sternly and unforgivingly opposed to Evil in general, would have a problem with one of his clerics using too many [Evil] spells. Though such spells can be wielded in a good cause, bringing the force of Evil, in any form, into the world is somewhat against his code of conduct and he's not exactly one to let a violation slip by on a technicallity. It's not an alignment issue, but a matter of crede. |
| The White Sorcerer11-28-06, 12:21 AM | Nope. If your GOD'S alignment is LG, you can't cast [Chaotic] or [Evil] spells. If you're a LG cleric of St. Cuthbert (LN) then you can cast [Good] or [Evil] spells with no problem, just not [Chaotic]. Wrong. A cleric can't cast spells opposed to his own or his god's alignment. |
| Reversefigure411-28-06, 05:01 PM | Geez, I had no idea I was so restricted. Thank you, I appreciate your help guys! If you don't want restrictions, play a NN character of a neutral deity. No barred spells. |
