I've read this and read this, and I have come up with what *I* think it means, but I want to see what the rest of the community thinks...

Ok we know that when creating a cleric, you generally use the dietys and clerics good/evil alignment to decide if they wield positive (healing and turning) or negivite (harming and rebuking) however this is a strange situation I've found myself in.

I have a cleric following Xeen Mistress of Pleasure and Pain (bascially the goddess that makes wine and opiates both make your body feel good, but harm you at the same time), they use holy wine instead of holy water.. And generally the religion is based on drugs, alcohol, and BDSM... She is a Chaotic Neutral diety, the cleric is Chaotic Good, one of the Spheres she controls is destuction (along with plant, water, and animal), which gives him Cause light wounds as his Domain spell, however, being of a good alignment, he shouldn't be able to use cause wounds... I have read about that he can still use that spell but it can only be stored in his domain spell slot if he normally doesn't get the spell (as in this case).

However, due to the nature of the diety, being both benificial and harmful at the same time, I figured why couldn't he have both Cause and cure spells available to him, however for spontanous casting, he has to pick one or the other, the same for turning/rebuking, in other words. He can still only spontaniously cast healing or harming spells, not both, and can only turn, or rebuke, not both, but can store either positive or negitive energy spells towards his spell per day total...

Since he and his diety are both Chaotic, I don't see a conflict on this side of the alignment scale, as never knowing if he will hurt you are harm you would be chaotic in nature, and as the diety is neutral on the good/evil scale, she wouldn't care if he did one, the other, or both (however the influance in the destuction sphere would lean toward dark energies)

Let me know what you all think... I've gone back and forth in my head, and please no "What does the DM say," Answers, because I am the DM... I just have a PC because if someone else wants to DM for an adventure it gives them that oppertunity, and I don't have to sit out with no char.

Tanks...

A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or his deity’s (if he has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaos, evil, good, and law descriptors in their spell descriptions.

Inflict spells does not have an aligment destriptor so good priests can cast these without problem.

Evil priests can cast cure spells without problem as well.

Hallow, for instance, has a good descriptor and evil priests cannot cast this.

evil priests can not spontanious cast cure spells.

Hope this clears things up

I'm curious, where is this coming from? My understanding is that a good cleric cannot cast a spell with the [Evil] descriptor. Like Desecrate. Note that none of the Inflict spells have that messy [evil] descriptor in them.

My understanding and thoughts is that this cleric would:

Be able to prepare any Cure or Inflict (Blank) wounds in his standard spell slots.
Cast the Inflict (Light, Light Mass, or Critical) Wounds in his domain slot if he has Destruction.
Spontanously cast any Cure (Blank) Spell / Turn Undead, being that while his deity is neutral, his alignment is good.

And, Anders beat me to the punch.

This actually came from while I was creating my spell cheat sheet (shorthand version of all the spells the cleric can cast, helps lower play stoppages to look up a spell) and I came across Bless Water, Curse Water, (or bless wine, curse wine in my case). And even though those clearly have the Evil Good applied to them, I began to think that inflict cure should have the same restrictions on them as well, and reading over spontanous casting again, seemed to concrete that into my head. I guess thats what I get after spending a few hours teaching my wife the game, then doing both her arcane spell cheat sheet and starting on mine. All this way past my normal sleep time...

Reading your replies and reading over the book again, I don't see how I got so dang confused...

Sorry for wasting your time all... Its nice to feel stupid right when you first wake up in the morning.
