Last time we played I did find the nephew in a human prison and my party and I escaped and I got the nephew back to elven lands. The Elf king was so happy that he gave me a +4 Bow +4 sword, then the DM said that I got a Large Unicorn cohort. WHAT?! one of the guys in the party is a DM and stated "A unicorn? Do you how powerful they are? You are giving to a 9th lvl scout!" Now I did not stop the DM from giving me the unicorn, but I did not request it either. Is a large unicorn cohort so bad for a 9th lvl scout? Any thoughts? |

Now, if it were a Celestial Charger, which is CR 13, I would think yes, for a level 9 character. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/unicorn.htm The question though is: Is your character.... *cough* "pure" enough for the unicorn to let him ride it. |

First off, Unicorns have their own thought processes and may not agree with your assessment of a situation. It may insist that you hunt down an evil which you have no time for, and it may refuse to help you kill something it does not think deserves death. Second, Dungeon delving is not a horse friendly activity. Yes, it is intellegent but it also has 4 legs and weighs a ton, hope there are no tiny bridges over huge chasms in your future. Thirdly, hello! Magical force of good! No pretending to be evil to get close to the monsters. You have just become the proud owner of a beacon of "I'm a good guy, kill me and my horse!" Yes, Unicorns have magical power, but it is of limited use to the typical adventurer. My advice, Build yourself a fledgling grove, Leave the unicorn there to recruit nymphs and dryads and such, and call it a day. This way you don't have to worry about the poor thing being ogre bait, and it can still be somewhat usefull. The leadership feat may be modified by your DM to allow Fey followers instead of commoners, this might give you a base of ops and friendly support when you return home. GOOD luck:) |
