Cold subtype, by feat or few levels of a PrC [Archive] - Wizards Community

As the topic says, I'm looking for a way to get the cold subtype for a character I'm making (for flavor mostly). Is there any prc/feat in some wotc book that gives you this feature? I don't have access to any Forgotten Realms or Ebberon material. I'm planning to play a elf psion. I've read through all 3rd-party material I have for this but I haven't found any (only a few, kingdoms of kalamar books, hyperconscious)

Also book and page references would be a plus :-)

Thanks alot!

Check out Frostburn. It has at least one (probably multiple) prestige class that gives it.

There is:

Frozen Berserker (feat) gives you the cold subtype while raging (and leads in to a rather interesting PrC called the Frostrager). (Frostburn)

Frost Mage (PrC) gives you the cold subtype but only after 10 levels in the PrC. (Frostburn)

Thats actually all I can find :(

Sounds like the Frozen Mage is the way to go, but as I mentioned I'll be playing a psion so if it is a caster heavy class it might be a problem. Got to check the book out on tuesday :-)

Thanks again!

Oh, psion? I missed that in your original post. Well, two options then: You can either convince your DM to adapt the class to being a psionic one (not too difficult) or you can take the Cryokineticist who is a psionic class that specializes in Cold themed powers (don't gain the cold subtype though). Their capstone ability grants them a flash freeze type ability that deals cold damage to everything within 30ft (fort save half), and if they fail the first save they have to make a second save or else die instantly from the intense cold.

Convincing the DM is no problem, it's one campaign and me and a friend of mine will change between DMing/playing now and then. We usually have the same opinions as well, and it is probably just a few small changes. Got to find a nice name for a frozen psion (imagine a psion inside a ice-cube sliding foreward on the ground). Also, the Cryokineticist picked my interest, source? We'll probably be going on for a while and we both like higher levels, have been thinking about gaining a couple weird features for him without taking any other "regular" class levels (sneak attack without being a rouge, divine spells etc). I've made a list of PrC that could be interesting, it's 30cm long!!!

EDIT: Anyone knows a nice ice-based name for a remade Regalia of the Phoenix set? Kind of tired of the usual fire-based character :-)

Frostburn has also a spell in it called Mantle Of The Icy Soul which adds the the cold subtype to a creature. It is either cleric 6 or druid 5. It costs the caster 2000XP. So, if you are starting your game at some higher level, your DM might allow that you have this spell cast on your character and that either you pay the XP cost or you pay an appropriate amount of gold to a NPC caster.

The Cryokinetist is also from Frostburn. It is a 10 lvl PrC that gives some cold related abilities but does not advance psionic abilities.

As 1CentSage said, Mantle Of The Icy Soul works great. It doesn't even cost you a level OR a feat- if you can find a cold-oriented 9th level druid, all it should cost you is 10,450 GP.

There's a spell in the PHB2 which gives the cold subtype for a limited duration.

Also, the Elemental Savant from Planar Handbook (IIRC) might give the capability to do so, if you chose an Ice elemental.

That reminds me: check out the Bloodlines in Unearthed Arcana. I know they have water elemental and Frost Giant, among other things. Don't know if that actually grants cold subtype, though.
