Kitsunefoxrunner 05-06-07, 06:12 PM	I was talking with my DM a while back and we agreed that it might be fun to have a character that is an inteligent construct. The problem is though, we cant seem to find any info on sentient constructs as PCs. Anyone know were we could find this information? Thanks.
Tempest Stormwind 05-06-07, 07:17 PM	There's the Monster Manual if you want -- some constructs (like the MM2's Nimblewright) are intelligent and relatively free-willed, so the MM will help you play one if you want. The best source, though is Eberron. In that setting, which LOGICALLY applies magic to the society, a long war raged for a century and just recently ended. One of the developments during this war was the invention of relatively inexpensive, mass-produced construct soldiers called warforged. They are constructs, made of steel, stone, wood, and the like, but in some inexplicable way, they're also alive. After the war ended, production ceased and they were granted the rights of free-willed beings, which they were... only now they've lost the single purpose for which they were built, and have to individually find their place in this world. They're also balanced as LA+0 constructs, presented as a PC race. That, above all else, is the best place to start for a construct PC.

The background for my charie was going to be something like a old wizard/pyro (or something like that) decided to try and live forever by encasing its soul in a humanoid construct. His soul was transfered but its memory was scrambled. The construct would therefore be a pyro with no past that is tormented by random memories that it can not make any sence out of. That is kind of what i wanted him to be like. Not sure on anything else yet.

The flavor isn't considered Open Game, but the general idea is essentially identical to yours -- formerly human, they look human, but immortal, very hard to kill (they can literally harden their bodies in anticipation for an attack, resulting in reduced damage or boosted saving throws, and after the (undefined) ritual that transforms them, they have their memories scrambled (that is, they may remember their past lives, but none of the skills -- an elan doesn't retain any ability from its previous life, and is thus treated as a new race. The other alternative is to have the warforged take the Unarmored Body feat (Races of Eberron; do note that this feat should NOT remove their fortification) and describe him entirely as you see fit.

Can a warforged be created smaller than a normal one so that it does not weigh as much and is more human sized? Also, can a warforged become a psionic class. A warforged pyro would be awsome :drool:
runestar 05-06-07, 10:34 PM	You could try the maug from fiend folio. There is some possible abuse with the incarnate template from savage species, but I won't go there....;) You figure it out for yourself...:D

A warforged pyro would be awsome :drool: 1) There's the MM3's Warforged Scout. 2) You could always have the composite plating but describe it as being made of a fleshy substance. You LOOK human...until you're cut, which reveals wood, stone, and similar beneath you.) 3) Any race can become any class unless the race says otherwise (like Karsite in the Tome of Magic). Warforged *can* become psionic classes. So can elans. In fact, an elan can be *any* class before going into Pyro, since they naturally have the power points needed to do so. runestar 05-07-07, 12:26 PM	It is mentioned in one of the eberron splatbooks, IIRC. Basically a warforged who spent his 1st lv feat on a psionic feat which let him use his body as some sort of cognizant crystal.:)

Psiforged Body gives a few bonus power points and lets your body work as a cognizance crystal. It's not generally considered worth it (though it is better than Unarmored Body).
