| ultimateconjurer07-09-07, 10:43 PM | Okay-dokey. I'd like to play a Warforged Duskblade. I'd like to get Obtain Familiar and Improved Familiar so I can have a Homonculous to repair its master while he rests for his spells. What I DON'T want is having to get Craft Wonderous Items, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, AND Craft Construct just so I can make this thing. I could see an Artificier pulling this off no problem. The thing is, my group needs a melee oriented character and nobody would have the ability to heal me except for me. I thought, maybe get a familiar to repair me when I'm resting? What I'd like to know is: Are there any Construct Familiars that don't require so many feats to obtain? I wanted it to be a construct because it can work tirelessly on his master and doesn't need food or water. I would just go with a Formian Worker but I was kind of hoping to go with a Construct Theme with my Warforged. Can anyone help?:( |

| ultimateconjurer07-09-07, 11:00 PM | Well, him being a Warforged Duskblade, Charisma is his dump stat. Also Warforged get a -2 Cha. The familiar would share his ranks in craft and, if I can hide it properly, wouldn't come out until I needed it. The cohort could end up dying and then I'd have to find a new one, in which case he or she would be weaker. Your leadership score goes down if your cohort dies. |
| buzzsawl07-09-07, 11:35 PM | k...so cohort is out. See if you can convince your DM to let someone else's Humunculous to be your familiar...I know that's kinda far fetched, but I'm not even sure Warforged could make a Humunculous. I seem to remember the creation process taking a specially prepared vial of the creator's blood. Edit: Yep...need a pint of creator's blood to make one. |
| ultimateconjurer07-09-07, 11:38 PM | Ichor can be subsituted for blood. It says so in creation section under the Homonculus entry. Also didn't say somewhere in the DMG that two casters could work together to make magic items? Do you think that could apply to the Homonculus? Whoops, wasn't in the MM about the Ichor thing. It was in the DMG. |
| buzzsawl07-10-07, 07:07 PM | It's possible, I suppose. Although what I think about it doesn't really matter, that's a DM call. Think you may have to take this up w/ your DM. |
| DrMorganes07-10-07, 10:16 PM | Honestly? I think it's a marvelous idea! I'd allow it in my game simply due to the originality factor. We'd have to work out just how much damage the thing could repair in 8 hours, though. My first thought would be you'd effectively "heal" at the same rate as organics, but you're burning 2 feats, some coin, and XP to get it. At that "price" I don't think it would be game-breaking to allow your Homonculous spend 8 hours to repair the same amount of damage the organic members of your party heal in 24. Heck, your party's rogue can spend a LOT less than that on a wand of cure <adjective> wounds and be more effective. Heck, you may want to give him a wand of Repair <adjective> Damage while you're at it, just to cover your composite-plated behind when things go south in combat. |
