| Daemonknight7904-21-07, 11:14 PM | Hi, I am a fairly new player and I play a Cleric of WeeJas. Here is my question, I rebuke some undead and I had one come under my control. How long can I control the undead? I couldnt find it in the Player's Handbook. Thanks for your help |
| Shatari04-21-07, 11:23 PM | As I recall, once you command an undead you can control it until you relinquish command of it or it is destroyed. I'm pretty sure (though I don't have the book handy) that you can command a number of undead whose total HD don't exceed your cleric level. |
| Daemonknight7904-22-07, 07:59 AM | Yeah, I have seen where you cant control more HD of undead than your level but someone was telling me that you could control them only for number of days equal to your level. Example 3rd level cleric could control for 3 days |
| Shatari04-22-07, 02:58 PM | I've got my book here this time, and I'm not seeing any mention of that in the 'Evil Clerics and Undead' entry (p. 159) or the glossary (p. 306). I might be missing it, but I think it would have been mention in those two areas. Maybe it was a house rule the person's DM used? (Also: While only passingly related, the Animate Dead spell (p. 199) doesn't have that limitation either.) |
| Ace_of_time04-22-07, 09:01 PM | In the players hand book it says that commanding is the same as destroying in rolls terms and since destroying is permanent. It is safe to say there is no limit. Rebuke last 10 rounds. Turns per day = level + chr mod. |
| T3hB4k404-23-07, 01:47 PM | To my understanding yes commanding is permanent as there are two ways to obtain undead. One is animating them using spells such as Animate Dead, etc. the other is using rebuke/command to control them, and yes you're right it's restricted to a number of HD equal to your cleric level |
| Pegasos98904-23-07, 02:33 PM | I know where the misunderstanding is from. Check the (VERY nice, always have a scroll of this) control undead spell. 2nd level if I recall, intelligent undead get save, nonintelligent will automatically fall under your control and that spell has duration days/level. (EDIT: Oh, right, cleric. It is wizard spell. However, I still believe that is what the assumption of days per level is from.) |
| Ace_of_time04-23-07, 08:22 PM | Rebuking is not really a spell and since command is the evil cleric's destroy it would not have a duration. |
| Maekrix_Waere04-23-07, 11:32 PM | Unless updated in the erratta(?) You can control a number of HD of Undead equal to.....actually, nevermind...... Read this. It should tell you more than you will ever need to know. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=599129 |
| Ace_of_time04-24-07, 11:24 PM | Sorry I was trying to say Command. Here is the quote from your short cut. Rebuking isn’t something you use on a day-to-day basis. Undead, once controlled, follow you around until you get tired of them or they are destroyed. sorry, not trying to fight. |
| Maekrix_Waere04-25-07, 12:10 AM | Just wondering...are you referring to Undead controlled solely by Rebuking/Commanding, or do you wish to include Undead created via Animate Dead? If you include both Animate Dead AND Rebuking/Commanding, you can control a number of Undead who's HD equal to 4 times your caster level, plus 2 times your cleric level. The 4/Caster Level is from Animate Dead (if you use Animate Dead, use Skeleton and Zombie Variants from the Libris Mortis [PM me if need a few recommendations]), whereas the 2/Cleric Level is from Rebuking/Commanding (Remember, they all have to have HD equal to @ maximum half your Cleric level, rounded down). As said in the wonderful manuscript I posted...you shouldn't keep around giant hordes of Undead...just get a few REALLY nice ones. Like Giant Skeletons (giving these ones equipment is worth it) and Hydra Zombies...make sure you awaken every Undead you get...Hydra Zombies which get back their Fast Healing is good times...gooooood times... |
| Ace_of_time04-25-07, 11:24 PM | OK lets say the undead you want to rebuke is 4th hit die. Your 4thlevel cleric. I would like to point out that the turn check determines what the highest HD you can rebuke But damage is used to see what you can rebuke. (The damage roll is not limited to your cleric level) So assuming average rolls the damage for this rebuke will be 7+4+2chr (on the average)=13. (you only needed 8 on the roll) |
| Daemonknight7904-27-07, 07:52 AM | Thank everyone for all the comments and advice. It has really helped out a lot. |
| The_Undertaker04-27-07, 08:01 AM | You might consider getting libirs mortis I play a (good) necromancer of wee jas in a campain and I love that book. |
| Daemonknight7904-27-07, 01:50 PM | A friend (the DM) has the book and next time we play I am going to ask him if I can borrow that book and look it over. |
| Daemonknight7905-05-07, 07:16 PM | Another question, people have talked about "awakening" undead, where do I find the rules for that? |
| Maekrix_Waere05-05-07, 09:57 PM | Another question, people have talked about "awakening" undead, where do I find the rules for that? Libris Mortis/Spell Compendium-it's the Spell "Awaken Undead." The Spell Compendium one is the more optimized one...you should use it. Just saying, if I say anything you want to know more about, PM me and I'll PM you the specific rules. |
