Hey there ...

last night ... my PC died :weep:

One of my fellow-players thought it would be a cool idea if my character would proceed in the campaign as a ghost or other undead. Since my PC has quite some unfinished business.

How do i convert my PC to a ghost? Where are the rules for that? Can anyone sum them up from the heart for me? Or give me a clue where to find them?

Thanks,

Hans

Monster Manual I (it's a template)
Liber Mortis has some nice feats

I forget where I read it, but there are guidelines to suddenly acquiring a templated class:
In a nutshell, the level adjustment applies immediately. I recall ghosts being a +4 LA. So if yoiur character is, say... 4th level, you'd have to get enough XP to go to 9th before becoming 5th level. Might be worth it for the RP, but the LA is hideous.

Any reason why you're not coming back the raise dead way?

Alternately, if you have Ghostwalk, you can pick up the Eidolon class and continue as a ghost (no level adjust, it's just another class you take).

However, you have a few odd rules you need to abide by as a ghost, and if you die and someone resurrects you, you come back as alive, not a ghost (so dying isn't good). Also, should you ever gain more levels in Eidolon than your non-ghost levels, your character essentially dies.

The PC was an elf. I understand that elves can be raised in the 3e, but our house rule is that elves can't be raised. Plus ... my personal opinion about dying PCs is that dead=dead. This goes for my own PCs of course ... I don't deny anyone else their raising.

Thanks for the reply ...

Well, you could use Savage Progession, Template Classes. On the wizards site is an article about the Savage Progession of the Ghost Template in particular. I do not know if it is 3.0 or 3.5 though.

Zweanslord beat me to it, but I highly reccommend the Savage Progression template class. Although it's extremely frontloaded, it's a fairly balanced idea, that allows the character to continue. Even more fun, technically, you don't lose a level, as it's the effect of the Raise Dead spell that removes the level, not the actual death. You should see if your DM will allow you to swap out your last level for the first level of the template class. This gives you some of the powers of ghosthood. As you level, you gain some more.

A good way to describe the gradual increase in power is that you're still getting used to your ghostly powers.
